Dongxing City Prison is located in the southwestern part of Dongxing City, quite far from the urban area. The prison is built into the mountains of the Western Suburbs, with no towns nearby. I have learned about life in the prison both from my own experiences and from what my adoptive father has told me about Dongxing City Prison. This prison houses only murderers; there isn't a single person inside who has been incarcerated for anything else.
For criminals of Shi Huacheng's caliber, the guards are even more vigilant. Such inmates usually live alone in solitary confinement because you can never know what someone like him might do if placed with others. Although I had heard of Shi Huacheng before, I had never seen him, not even a photograph.
Now, Wu Zui is planning to rescue this most dangerous criminal.
At this moment, we are in the mountains.
It is evident that Wu Zui has carefully calculated the timing of our operation. As we enter the mountains, dawn is just breaking, allowing us to see somewhat in the woods while preventing the prison guards from seeing too far. However, they certainly wouldn't expect that a jailbreak could actually happen in Dongxing City.
Wu Zui glances at his watch; it reads four twenty. There are only thirty minutes left until the time he has chosen for action. We can see that the high walls of the prison are not far from us. If we continue up this path, we will reach the walls in just over ten minutes.
Everyone crouches low. I notice several criminals beside me; although they are all desperate men, I can clearly see their tension. The guns they hold tremble in their hands. In this environment, everyone's breathing has become suppressed; no one dares to make a sound.
Killing is not the same as killing, especially when it comes to taking the life of an unarmed innocent versus that of a fully armed guard. Even though these murderers would do anything for money, I can tell that not everyone is willing to charge forward. I believe Wu Zui can see this too, but at this moment he still wears a mask, obscuring his expression and thoughts.
Wu Zui quietly asks, "Let’s confirm one last time—what's the situation now?"
Jesse, wearing an earpiece, nods and replies, "Let’s confirm the situation one last time."
Jesse asks again, "Is everything ready?"
After a moment, Jesse makes a 'K' gesture and says, "Everything is ready. Checking the time: it’s four twenty-seven. Lai San, you will act at four thirty sharp. The rest will proceed according to plan and retreat together once we’re done; we have someone waiting to assist."
With that, Jesse removes his earpiece and puts it in his pocket.
Jesse turns back and says, "Shouldn’t we get moving? There’s only half an hour left."
Wu Zui nods and replies, "We’ll proceed as planned. You take your team to the front entrance. Once you hear the explosion, act immediately. After we succeed, don’t linger—withdraw quickly. Understood?"
Jesse nods in agreement.
"Wu Zui said, 'Moriko, take Wu Meng and follow me.'
Moriko nodded and pulled out a piece of plastic rope to bind my hands. At the same time, she stuffed a cloth in my mouth and secured it with yellow tape, then pushed me forward. With this, I had no way to escape on my own.
On a summer early morning, a cool breeze made it somewhat chilly. The sky was slowly brightening.
Wu Zui and Jesse split into two teams; Jesse led a large group toward the main entrance while Wu Zui took me and Moriko outside. We could almost see the high prison walls topped with several watchtowers, but there were no guards stationed up there.
Wu Zui turned back and said, 'Hurry up. The guards change shifts at eleven-thirty at night and again at four-thirty in the early morning. The handover takes five to ten minutes; we need to reach the wall during that time.'
It seemed that Wu Zui had covered my mouth because he feared I might scream and alert the guards.
Wu Zui looked at Moriko and continued, 'Follow me, avoid the surveillance.'
Hearing Wu Zui's words startled me. He was meticulous in his planning, even calculating the prison's surveillance zones. It appeared that Wu Zui not only had exceptional counter-surveillance skills but also knew exactly where the cameras were located.
This was terrifying. I even wondered if Wu Zui ever decided to pull off something big, would the Municipal Public Security Bureau be caught off guard? I hesitated to think further; I couldn't allow such a thing to happen. I had to stop him.
Although the internal structure of the City Bureau was not accessible to just anyone, I couldn't rule out that Wu Zui might employ some means to infiltrate it.
I watched Wu Zui's back, feeling an indescribable mix of emotions. Although he was my biological brother by blood, we had never been together since birth. The bonds between people are not solely formed by blood; they are built on emotions.
Even though we shared the same bloodline, I understood that we were not the same person.
As I pondered this, Moriko pushed me along the edge of the wall through the trees, where the watchtower's view couldn't reach us. Moments later, a figure appeared before us. This person held a detonator connected to a long fuse.
Scarface said, 'It's Yinzi. The prison is equipped with signal jamming devices, so we can only use old-fashioned fuses for detonation. It's cumbersome but reliable. The explosives have already been set up on the other side of the wall.'
With that, Scarface handed the detonator to Wu Zui. 'We prepared this long ago. If you really want to go through with this, I'm not going to accompany you to your death. Do you think prison breaks are still like in ancient times? Even if you manage to rescue someone, escaping is nearly impossible. Just transfer any remaining money into my account; I'm leaving.'”
Wu Zui nodded and took the detonator.
Scarface pulled out a few pairs of headphones from his bag and said, "The detonation distance is too close. I suggest you wear interference-proof headphones; otherwise, you might as well forget about your ears."
"Very well." Wu Zui patted Scarface on the shoulder and said, "What you want will be delivered to you soon, Jasmine."
Jasmine nodded and walked over to Scarface. Scarface glanced at her and said, "You know my account."
In a swift motion, Jasmine drew a knife and plunged it directly into Scarface's neck. The blade pierced through from front to back, and Scarface didn't make a sound. Jasmine pulled the knife out gently and cradled Scarface's body, leaning him against the wall.
Scarface's corpse sat there, completely unaware of what had happened.
Blood gushed out from Scarface, splattering onto my face, and I had no way to wipe it off. It seemed that regardless of whether he was a good person or a bad person in life, blood was still warm.
Moriko reached out and wiped my face, helping to clean off the bloodstains.
Wu Zui spoke up, "Since your job is done, there's nothing more for you here. You can leave first."
Hearing Wu Zui's indifferent tone filled me with helplessness and sorrow. A person like Wu Zui could easily discard someone once they were no longer useful; he was truly cold-blooded. Scarface was different from those armed thugs outside; those men were only recruited by Wu Zui recently. But Scarface had been around since the Liu Yinyan case, someone I had seen before.
He had been with Wu Zui for at least over a year, yet when Wu Zui ordered Moriko to take action, there was not a hint of hesitation or mercy. This was Wu Zui's strength; how could someone without any emotions not be formidable?
Wu Zui glanced at the corpse and then at me. "Don't worry; I won't let you die so easily in the future. That would be too boring."
"Then we need to wait here for about ten minutes. Once it hits five o'clock, we will act." Wu Zui looked up at the sky; the distant sunrise had already risen, warming the air.
Wu Zui continued, "I checked the weather forecast; it says there will still be heavy rain today. But it stopped raining as soon as we brought you back. This weather forecast is really unreliable. However, regardless of whether it rains or not, we have our ways."
Rain? Ways?
The seemingly casual remark from Wu Zui carried a deeper meaning, though I struggled to grasp whether it was intentional or merely accidental. As time passed, it became clear that Wu Zui was about to initiate something significant.
Wu Zui glanced at his watch again. "One minute left. Get ready."
With that, he put on his headphones, and Moriko followed suit, insisting on placing a pair on me as well.
Moriko held onto me tightly, preventing any chance of escape, while Wu Zui kept his eyes on his watch, poised to press the detonator at any moment.
Time dragged on painfully slow; I had never felt it move so slowly before.
Finally, I watched as Wu Zui's finger pressed down. But nothing happened—no sound, no explosion. A flicker of hope surged within me. Could the explosives have failed? Just as that thought crossed my mind, the ground began to shake. Even with the headphones on, the deafening noise penetrated through.
A massive cloud of dust erupted, debris flying everywhere, all originating from the wall adjacent to us.
The dust settled after what felt like an eternity of ten seconds. Wu Zui yanked off my headphones and removed his own. At that moment, gunfire echoed from the front. It seemed that at the main entrance, the guards and those desperate criminals had already clashed.
Wu Zui leaned against the wall, showing no intention of moving.
He spoke up, "We have about a minute before those people will all rush to support the front. There will be some here, but definitely not many. This place is relatively far from the cells; they won't suspect anything. The blast points are concentrated near the main entrance—this is our best chance to rescue Shi Huacheng."
At this point, Wu Zui couldn't help but burst into laughter.
