Liu's gun was pressed against Gu Chen's chest, but he hesitated to pull the trigger. The Special Operations Group had only been around for two years, and they had spent over a year together. In that time, they had faced life-and-death challenges and experienced joy and sorrow, creating memories that were impossible to sever. 0

We all hoped Gu Chen would turn back, but he could no longer do so. 0

A loud bang echoed through the air. 0

The gunshot rang out. 0

Liu stared at the hole in his chest, a dark void from which blood flowed steadily. Veins bulged on his forehead as he gazed blankly at his wound, unable to utter a single word. He might have been utterly confused about what had just happened, but the reality was undeniable. 0

With a thud, Liu's gun fell to the ground. 0

Moments later, Liu collapsed as well. 0

The shooter was Guan Zengbin, who stood there with a gun in hand. My warning had come too late; perhaps Liu never expected Guan Zengbin would shoot him. But it all unfolded just like that. I had always believed Wu Zui would never kill Guan Zengbin; that would have been the best outcome. Yet now it seemed that sometimes death might be better than living. 0

Death is not the end; living is fraught with torment. 0

In these past few months, Guan Zengbin had been deeply hypnotized. Without extensive treatment, she could not recover in such a short time. If only I had prevented her from being alone on the mountain back then, she wouldn’t have been taken away and wouldn’t have become what she was now. 0

If Guan Zengbin hadn’t become this way, Liu wouldn’t have died either. All of this—every bit of it—was my doing. I was the one who turned Guan Zengbin into this murderer; I was the one responsible for Liu's death. If it weren’t for me, none of this would have happened, and these people would still be alive in this world. 0

It was all because of me. 0

I didn’t know what it meant to be overwhelmed by sadness; I only knew that I couldn’t even shed a single tear. This feeling was unbearable. Clearly, I was heartbroken, yet not a single tear would fall, not even one. 0

Gu Chen glanced at Liu and sighed, “Death is a release. You have been released; in your next life, you can enjoy peace.” 0

Then Gu Chen walked over to us, untied the ropes binding me and Wu Zui, and picked up Liu’s gun from the ground. He aimed the gun at Yinzi without hesitation and pulled the trigger. Bright red blood and pale yellow brain matter splattered onto me, onto my face, yet I didn’t even have the strength to wipe it away. 0

Everything was over. Those I cherished, those I valued—one by one, they either transformed into unfamiliar figures or died right before my eyes. A fortune teller once told me I was a star of misfortune, destined to bring death to everyone who got close to me. If this was my fate, I hoped everything could end with my death. 0

End this nightmare once and for all. 0

“What time is it?” Wu Zui asked. 0

Gu Chen didn’t provide a specific answer; instead, he said, “Soon. At most, ten minutes from now.” 0

Wu Zui nodded, looking at the two corpses in the room with satisfaction. “Hmm, it’s about what I expected. Our plan has begun; all we need to do now is wait.” 0

I didn’t understand Wu Zui’s meaning. Waiting here would only lead to our arrest by the police. 0

But at that moment, I didn’t want to speak anymore. After everything I had been through, I felt like nothing more than a clown. From the very beginning, I had been kept in the dark; now that all the puzzles had been solved, the person I valued most was gone. 0

Having joined the Special Operations Group with nothing, I found myself with nothing once again. Everyone had deceived me; no one had ever truly considered me a friend. I remained that orphan with nothing—no friends, no family—only mockery and pity. 0

Nothing had changed. 0

"My dear brother," Wu Zui laughed heartily upon seeing my expression. "Why do you wear such a long face? You should be proud of your brother; everything in this life is under my control. The police can send undercover agents in, but I can just as easily send an undercover agent to your side." 0

"From the moment I saw you, my plan began. To achieve my goals, we must start from a high point. After this case, Wu Meng, your status will rise to an unimaginable level. You killed Shi Huacheng; you personally captured Wu Zui." 0

"Are you thinking about infiltrating the Public Security Bureau?" I finally understood what Wu Zui meant by wanting to become like me. 0

Wu Zui nodded and said, "That's right. Haven't I already told you? Once this case is over, I, Gu Chen, and even Guan Zengbin will become the backbone of the police force. Do you understand why Shi Huacheng could stir up such chaos with just one person? It's because he had connections both inside and outside." 0

"If everything can be controlled in our hands, then everything will be fine." Wu Zui patted my head. "My dear brother, the most brilliant tactic is never to kill on the surface but to change a person's thoughts from within. We must start from the inside. If everyone in the Public Security Bureau thinks like us, if the armed police feel the same way and desire to create a new world, then this world will undergo tremendous changes!" 0

"You've gone mad!" I exclaimed. "Do you really think you can succeed? How long do you think you can keep this up? How long can you live?" 0

"No!" Wu Zui shook his finger. "None of us plan to stay alive. Shi Huacheng taught me my last lesson, and I've finally understood that killing is always a low-level tactic. What's important is to make everyone share our thoughts. Even if I die later on, there will be another Wu Zui, another Gu Chen; this cycle is nearly endless. There will always be someone who will shape the world into what we want it to be. Do you understand?" 0

I shook my head; Wu Zui's ambitions were too insane for me to comprehend. He wasn't just committing crimes; he was establishing a dangerous cult with a harmful ideology. 0

This was all a reflection of Wu Zui's twisted and dark view of the world. 0

"Time is running out," Gu Chen said as he looked at Wu Zui. 0

Wu Zui nodded. 0

Gu Chen stepped forward and delivered a powerful punch to my head, leaving me dizzy. Even if I had both arms and legs intact, I would still not stand a chance against Gu Chen, let alone now. But what hurt me was not the physical pain; it was the anguish within my heart. 0

How could I have imagined that Gu Chen would do something like this to me? How could I have thought that the person who once believed in me when the whole world doubted me would act in such a way? 0

I had completely lost hope in this world. 0

This has never been a bright world; darkness is the norm here. 0

"As long as I'm alive, I will stop you!" 0

I didn't know how many teeth had been knocked out. All I felt was a sweetness in my throat, and I understood that it was the taste of blood. Those words were almost shouted from the depths of my throat, and blood trickled down from the corner of my mouth. It was my scream, even though my voice was as faint as a mosquito's buzz. 0

Wu Zui grabbed my head tightly. "Wu Meng, don't you understand? Why do I have to show you all the crime scenes? Look closely at everything in this room; think carefully about your life. I taught you a lesson, gave you a chance to stay out of this, to stay alive, to live an ordinary life." 0

"But what about you?" Wu Zui said viciously. "All of this is your fault! If it weren't for you, Guan Zengbin wouldn't be like this now. If it weren't for you, Gu Chen wouldn't be like this. If it weren't for you, the Special Operations Group wouldn't be like this. If it weren't for you, Liu Gen wouldn't have died here." 0

"Why can't you understand?" Wu Zui gripped my head painfully. "All of this is your own doing." 0

My head was spinning, and Wu Zui's words were hazy, whispering in my ear like distant echoes. Yes, all of this was my doing; I am the murderer. From the moment I was born, I have been a murderer. I caused the deaths of those around me; each one was killed by me. 0

Indeed, this world is dark; death is a form of liberation. What I did was merely to free everyone. The woman who died, the kidnapped Liu Yinyan, the brutally murdered Chu Mei—each one of those suicides was part of my plan. 0

If it weren't so, why would I know these cases so well? 0

"Yes, I killed them! It was me! I'm guilty; I'm a sinner!" I screamed hoarsely, exhausting all my strength. "Arrest me! I'm the criminal! Those people were all killed by me; if you have the guts, come at me!" 0

A vague voice echoed in my ear, "Wu Zui, you finally admit everything. Do you know who I am?" 0

I looked at the person in front of me; he looked exactly like me. Beside him stood two others, a man and a woman. I recognized them; one was Guan Zengbin, and the other was Gu Chen. They were from the Special Operations Group, and their target was Zhao Mingkun—my target. 0

"Who am I?" the person who looked just like me asked. 0

"You are Wu Meng," I replied. 0

"Good," Wu Meng said. "Then who are you?" 0

Before I could respond, a commotion erupted outside the door. The Public Security Forces had arrived, and I had nowhere to escape. 0

"Who are you? Answer me!" Wu Meng glared at me, his hatred palpable. It made sense; I had killed so many people that he certainly had reason to despise me. 0

"I am Wu Zui," I answered. 0

The wooden door was kicked open, and a team of armed police rushed in. "Don't move! Raise your hands!" 0

Wu Meng stepped forward. "Calm down; Wu Zui is already under our control." 0
