Let's begin tonight's third story: Operation Sea, Land, and Air. This case was told to me by an old leader from my previous unit, who had already transitioned to work at the Local Public Security Bureau as the head of the Preliminary Examination Division. During a gathering, he shared this case with me, and I was left speechless for a long time after hearing it. 0

The incident occurred at the turn of spring and summer in 2000. A middle-aged man came to report that his daughter had been robbed and raped. The girl was severely traumatized, stopped attending school, and spent her days crying at home. Her family was afraid to take her to report the incident, so her father came alone to request police intervention. The officer who received the case took it seriously, as it happened in a bustling area of the provincial capital and involved rape, which could have serious social repercussions. They agreed to send personnel to investigate and collect evidence. 0

Through patient questioning by the police, they learned that a few nights prior, the girl had gone out with her boyfriend (with whom she had a deep relationship and was planning to marry) to the embankment by the river. There, they encountered a man who initially threatened them with a knife and robbed them of their belongings—only a few hundred yuan. Later, perhaps noticing that the girl was attractive, several men decided to assault her but feared that her boyfriend would escape and report them. They bound her boyfriend and raped her in front of him. Afterward, the criminals fled in a panic. The boyfriend, feeling guilty, managed to get a taxi to take the girl home. She was completely shattered; her parents only learned some details after repeatedly asking her but were too afraid to force her to report it. Thus, days passed without any action taken for evidence collection. 0

When questioned by the police, the poor girl couldn't remember anything; perhaps panic had clouded her memory of crucial facial features or maybe she simply didn't want to recall those moments. After repeated inquiries about her boyfriend's assailants, he remained silent and offered little information. During the assault, he might have shouted a few words in excitement—commands like "Don't move!" or "Don't be afraid!" Eventually, when police took them back to the embankment for evidence collection, much time had passed; the river breeze was strong and chaotic, washing away any trace of fingerprints. The officers searched for hours but found no valuable clues. Nearby inquiries yielded no witnesses either; due to the steep drop at the embankment and dim lighting at night, anything beyond ten meters was shrouded in darkness—who would suspect that a crime was occurring where no light shone? The police later combed through records of habitual offenders and transients but found no leads; this case gradually became a cold case. 0

In time, the girl's boyfriend broke up with her due to her trauma. The girl developed autism from the stress and refused to communicate with anyone outside her family. Her mother’s health deteriorated from the strain of these events and she passed away a year later. The girl's father sought help from many people until he finally secured her a position at the city library—a quiet job that might aid in her recovery. 0

As years went by, everyone nearly forgot about this incident until suddenly it was solved in an astonishing way! 0

The breakthrough did not come from police work but rather from the girl herself reporting it again; she identified her attackers from years ago and insisted on police intervention for an investigation. The incredible part is that she recognized three criminals during her own wedding! One of them was her husband (or fiancé? I’m not sure if they were officially married), while the other two were groomsmen! Everyone found this unbelievable! 0

Later on, she confided in my old leader how deeply this incident affected her; she fell into despair and even contemplated suicide. Her father loved her dearly and paid for minimally invasive cosmetic surgery, enhancing her already delicate beauty. Many pursued her at the library until she met her husband—let's call him A—who worked as a security guard there after leaving military service. Interestingly enough, A wasn’t particularly handsome or tall, yet she fell for him—perhaps due to her past nightmare leaving her with an overwhelming sense of insecurity. Every time she left work passing by the library, A would watch as she boarded the bus and smile at her; knowing he was once a soldier only deepened her affection for him. 0

The two groomsmen she identified were named B and C; although they had never gathered together since that night, they often called each other brotherly names and seemed quite close. Eventually, A and the girl decided to marry; he invited B and C to his wedding. They agreed to travel long distances to attend—little did they know what awaited them behind those doors! 0

Do you want to know how she identified those three men? You wouldn’t guess—it was during a game at the wedding! While everyone enjoyed themselves with games like carrying brides or apple-biting contests (we don’t know exactly what they played), one bride recalled those haunting voices from that dreadful night: “Hold her down!” “Don’t move!” “Don’t be afraid!” Each man had uttered one of those phrases exactly as before! We can only imagine how shocked she must have been! We don’t know how she confirmed their identities or how much courage it took for her to stand up again! Ultimately, thanks to her insistence, law enforcement reopened their investigation. 0

By coincidence, my old leader from back then had become deputy director overseeing criminal investigations at the bureau; with some maneuvering on his part, those three men quickly confessed their involvement in that case from three years prior. They indeed were the criminals from that night—three men from different branches: Army, Navy, and Air Force—who had been hospitalized together due to illness in the same ward. Because they shared a room and were close in age, they jokingly called themselves "the Three Brothers." They frequently gathered together discussing business ventures. 0

On that fateful night years ago when they were on leave out of boredom walking along the riverbank saw an attractive couple dressed stylishly—they impulsively committed their crime. Afterward, they returned separately to their units without speaking about it again; perhaps out of guilt or fear—some were conscription soldiers while others were non-commissioned officers—they all chose to retire around that same time at year’s end. 0

Despite this incident binding them together through shared guilt or fear of betrayal—their bond remained strong over time as brothers-in-arms. After A's discharge due to poverty back home led him mistakenly into applying for security work at the library where he met that girl—he never recognized her because of her cosmetic surgery transformation. 0

As they grew closer together over time A felt she was his ideal partner leading them toward marriage plans—but B’s attendance at A’s wedding stirred something within him too; perhaps nostalgia or relaxation led him back into contact with A again resulting in being identified by that bride. 0

Once captured all three quickly confessed their crimes; shockingly enough it was A—the very person whom she deemed stable and safe—that first suggested robbery-turned-assault! He stood there dumbfounded upon learning everything exclaiming just one word: “Karma.” B had been just as young then as now barely over twenty years old believing time would erase their sins forever hidden from light—but ultimately justice caught up with them! 0

This is our third story—a reminder that fate has its ways of catching up with us all eventually! Reflect upon what debts you owe because someday you will have to repay them! Now let’s see how everyone feels about what I’ve written; if enough people respond positively I’ll consider releasing our fourth story: Night Walk, Don’t Look Back! 0
