The first time I arrived at the Jiang family’s place, I was just a country bumpkin fresh from the countryside.
Wearing a slightly faded dress, I carefully walked through the villa area of the Jiang Family Courtyard, dragging my suitcase behind me.
It was the prettiest dress I owned, but it still felt out of place among the Jiang family; even the security guards at the entrance were dressed better than I was.
The sun was blazing that day, and I paused to pull out a handkerchief to wipe the sweat from my forehead.
The sound of a motorcycle grew louder as it approached, accompanied by the harsh screech of brakes. The tires skidded against the pavement, leaving a long mark, and I froze in fear.
A group of teenagers, around seventeen or eighteen years old, parked their motorcycles beside me.
The leader of the group took off his helmet and looked me over with interest before sneering, “New here?”
He had a buzz cut and wore a silver chain around his neck with a simple ring dangling from it.
Despite having what seemed like gentle eyes, his demeanor was rough and carried an air of intimidation.
I tightened my grip on my suitcase as I met his playful gaze and softly replied, “Mm.”
After a few seconds of silence, his smile turned dark. “Speak up; I can’t hear you.”
He lit a cigarette right in front of me, holding it between his lips as he leaned against his bike, squinting at me. “What’s your name?”
There was clear hostility in his tone, but I had always been soft-spoken and not easily angered. I answered him earnestly, “Tang Xiaotian.”
He smirked mischievously. “Your mom’s about to marry into the Jiang family, and you still go by Tang?”
I frowned slightly. “I only know how to call myself Tang Xiaotian.”
He raised an eyebrow, and then one of the boys who had been silent suddenly teased him, “Looks like your new little sister has some spirit.”
The boy shot me a glance before coldly retorting, “Who the hell is my sister? My mom only had me.”
Later on, I learned that this boy who had ignored me and harbored unwarranted hostility was notorious for his bad temper in this circle—Jiang Huai, the young master of the Jiang family.
Rebellious, fierce in fights, and unruly—those words suited him perfectly.
When my mother took my suitcase and asked me with a smile how things were here, I instinctively concealed what had happened today.
I linked my arm with hers and said, "It's pretty good. The people here take good care of me."
Everyone said I had struck it rich, that a sparrow had turned into a phoenix.
They weren't wrong; I had indeed transformed from a small-town girl into the envy of many as the Jiang Family Young Lady.
But lying on the soft bed, I felt uneasy. Everything here reminded me that I didn't belong.
Yet my mother had finally found her place; I couldn't throw a tantrum.
She had suffered enough.
Before I was even born, my father had an accident at the construction site due to the greed of Capital Side, where even the most basic safety for workers was disregarded.
That incident claimed many lives, and my father was one of them, easily covered up with money from above.
At that time, my mother, heavily pregnant, had protested, but it was all in vain.
So, from the moment I was born, I grew up without a father.
People around me always told me to be understanding; it wasn't easy for my mother to raise me alone.
I had always hoped she could find happiness again.
Until one day, a black sedan drove into the village and stopped in front of our house under everyone's curious gaze.
A man in a suit stepped out of the car. He glanced at me and respectfully said, "Excuse me, is this Miss Tang Xiaotian?"
I nodded.
He smiled slightly. "Miss Tang, I am the Butler of the Jiang Family. You can call me Uncle Chen. Your mother is about to marry our master, and I'm here to take you to the Jiang family. You will be living there from now on, so you can take a moment to see if there's anything you need to bring with you."
I stood there in shock for a while before nodding. My mother was getting married.
And thus began today's events.
Jiang Huai does not welcome me, and he cannot accept my mother either, but I do not blame him, for I can see the unease hidden beneath his exterior.
He must be afraid too, afraid of becoming the unnecessary one. I can empathize with him.
Like me, Jiang Huai comes from an incomplete family.
His mother passed away during childbirth, leaving a void in his life where a mother should have been.
He uses his rebellious demeanor to mask his loneliness. Uncle Jiang has built a large business and has no time to pay attention to Jiang Huai. By the time he realized it, their relationship had become difficult to mend.
However, Uncle Jiang and my mother have formed a new family together. From their love story, I can tell that this was a well-considered decision.
This Little Bully and I will become family.
So from now on, Jiang Huai will have my company by his side.
No matter how bad his temper is, he is still my brother, and I am his sister.
My mother told me to win him over with love. I glanced at Jiang Huai, who was heading upstairs with a cold expression and slammed the door shut behind him.
Well, this will be a long battle.
