On July 24, 2015, the main street of Aiqiu Village was filled with the sounds of drums and firecrackers as many people gathered to watch. The villagers were all very happy—how could such an unprecedented event happen in their midst?
It turned out that the long-awaited China Construction Bank Aiqiu Village Branch had finally opened.
Previously, villagers had to travel to the county seat to deposit money, which took about an hour and a half by bus. Now that a bank had opened in their village, it made saving and withdrawing money much more convenient, and the villagers were overjoyed.
However, some villagers with a strong sense of fraud awareness began to wonder why a bank would open in such a remote and impoverished area. Did they suddenly have too much money with nowhere to spend it?
Despite their concerns, the presence of a police station right next door reassured them.
To attract more customers to deposit money, President Zhang announced that they had secured opening benefits: the first 100 villagers who deposited at least 1,000 yuan would receive free eggs, rice, and cooking oil.
The allure of free gifts was hard to resist; who wouldn’t be tempted?
The elderly villagers could hardly contain their excitement as they rushed to the bank's entrance, forming long lines. On the very first day of its opening, the bank received deposits totaling 500,000 yuan.

The person with whom President Zhang had the best relationship was the village's wealthiest man, Liu Baige. One day, President Zhang approached Brother Baige and mentioned that his superiors had given him a daunting task.

But the staff of Construction Bank still found something wrong, so they asked the staff in the fake bank. It turned out that the three of them were college students who had just graduated from the finance major, and one of them was the daughter of President Zhang, and the other two were relatives who spent 10,000 yuan to get in. But when faced with the police's questioning, the three said that they all relied on their real abilities to pass formal exams to enter the bank, and they also said that this was definitely not a fake bank. According to Zhang's account, he had been a genius since childhood. He dropped out of middle school and started a furniture factory with his relatives. Initially, their factory achieved some success, but Zhang had a peculiar habit of misappropriating funds to gamble.
In the end, not only did the furniture factory go bankrupt, but he also accumulated a debt of over two million.
He initially planned to take out a loan from the bank to make a comeback, but since he had no property under his name and was burdened with so much debt, the bank was hesitant to lend him money. Giving him a loan would be like throwing a meat bun to a dog—once gone, it would never return.

After several days of observation, he discovered that there was a Vegetable Wholesale Market next door with heavy foot traffic and located away from the city center. If he opened a bank there, many people would likely come to deposit their money.
So, without hesitation, Zhang deceived the landlord into believing he was an executive at a bank and rented a storefront near the market at a low price.
He then hired people to renovate the place, perfectly replicating the China Construction Bank. Remarkably, he spent not a single penny on the renovations because he had tricked both the construction team and suppliers into believing they would be reimbursed by the bank once it was operational.
Zhang told them that after the bank was completed, he would submit expenses for reimbursement to headquarters. However, by the time he was arrested, he had yet to settle any of those debts.
Later statistics revealed that over 300 people had been deceived, with the total amount involved exceeding three million yuan.
If it hadn't been for Baige's urgent need for cash, Zhang's fake bank might have soon become a real one.
Ultimately, Zhang was sentenced to five years in prison for fraud.
