The conference room door swung open, and a group of impeccably dressed businesspeople entered.
At the forefront was a man with a stern expression, high cheekbones, and an extraordinary presence. He sat down across from me, his gaze sweeping over me before pausing slightly.
Then, as if no one else were present, he spoke, "Fang Miaomiao, have you found a better man than me?"
Huh?
That question felt somewhat offensive. If I had found someone better, would I still be attending this meeting?
I looked at the man across from me in utter confusion, only to be jolted by a sudden realization.
His name was Shen Kun.
Three years ago, I had mistakenly slept with him after getting drunk!
"Thud—"
In my nervousness, I stumbled and nearly fell to the side. Fortunately, the young assistant was quick on his feet and caught me.
"Thank you," I murmured in gratitude. When I looked up again, I met Shen Kun's gaze directly.
He wore a half-smile, his eyes glinting with amusement.
Heat rushed to my face as I awkwardly turned my head away.
Although that incident three years ago had been an accident, I knew I was in the wrong. That night, I had worked late and went out for drinks with colleagues to unwind. After getting drunk, my colleague had taken me to the hotel to rest. In the end, I ended up in the wrong room and slept in the wrong bed…
When I woke up again, the sun was already high in the sky. I hadn’t even gotten a good look at who that man was before I hurriedly fled the scene. Little did I expect that three years later, I would encounter him again at a Business Meeting. He was now a Client, the CEO of the company collaborating on this project.
What luck this was.
“Bang—”
Shen Kun slammed the proposal onto the table, his expression cold. “Is this the result of your three months of work?”
I quickly pulled my thoughts together and replied earnestly, “Yes, Mr. Shen. Please trust our expertise…”
“Bang!”
He clasped his hands on the table, his tone indifferent. “Redo it.”
“Why?”
I was puzzled. Although this project had a tight deadline, every member of our team had given their all.
Shen Kun raised an eyebrow. “The design doesn’t align with our product specifications.”
“Mr. Shen, if you could provide specific feedback, we will definitely…”
Before I could finish my sentence, he interrupted me. “Miss Fang, are you trying to teach me how to do my job?”
Fine.
The Client is always right.
I gritted my teeth. “I will lead the team to redesign it and ensure your satisfaction.”
“Let’s hope so.”
Shen Kun’s gaze was icy, and his tone mocking.
I silently cursed under my breath; what was wrong with him? Why was he so irritable?
During the meeting break, Shen Kun made his way through the crowd and walked straight toward me.
I instinctively took a step back, but he was quicker, reaching out to me.
"Miss Fang, long time no see."
I hesitated for a moment, not wanting to seem too petty, and extended my hand. "Mr. Shen, hello."
Shen Kun's lips curled into a slight smile as he suddenly pulled my hand forward.
Caught off guard, I found myself embraced in his arms.
He leaned down, his warm breath brushing against my ear. "Miss Fang, have you found a better man than me?"
After the meeting concluded, I immediately returned to the office with my team to start revising the proposal.
That guy, Shen Kun, was simply too demanding.
"It's okay; everyone has done really well. Let's revise it together," I reassured my colleagues, submitting the situation report to our superiors.
Once we finalize things with Shen Kun Company, it seemed like another late night at the office was inevitable.
Later that evening, I received a phone call.
It was my undergraduate senior, Ma Yue.
"Miao Miao, it's been a while since we last contacted each other. Are you free tonight? Let's all get together."
I hesitated, and Ma Yue added, "Everyone is here; you're the only one missing."
Considering the bond of alumni after six years apart, I agreed.
