"Madam, your mother has arrived," the maid said.
Shen Wanfen's voice came from the direction of the stairs. "Yao Yao, I've come to see you!"
"Mom, didn't I tell you not to come over unless it's necessary? My husband doesn't like visitors."
"Am I a visitor? What's wrong with me coming to see my daughter? Besides, Ji Linchuan is my son-in-law."

Shuyao reached out to cover her mouth, but Shen Wanfen quickly grasped her hand.
"Why are your hands so cold? Are you feeling unwell?"
Only then did Shen Wanfen notice that her daughter was damp.
"You’re grown up now; can't you change out of wet clothes?"
Recalling the embarrassing scene from last night when Ji Linchuan had tossed her into the bathroom made it hard for her to speak.

Shen Wanfen was momentarily speechless, lowering her head. "But Mom did this for your own good, right? Look at Ji Linchuan—he's wealthy and handsome; why else would he want to marry you? This is a rare opportunity!"
"Is it?" Shuyao stared at her as she chuckled awkwardly. "Well, isn't that so?"
"In any case, you need to keep him interested; don't let him get bored. That's how we make money."
Hearing the mention of money made Shuyao's heart sink.
Shen Wanfen seemed energized as she continued speaking fervently. "A woman must not only be beautiful but also know how to live well..."
"You need to be more proactive..."
"Mom!" Shuyao suddenly turned her head and interrupted her. "Stop talking! I've long grown tired of this kind of life!"
"I chose to marry him so that you could live here in peace, but now I don't want to hear any more from you!"
Having said that, Shuyao prepared to open the door and ask her mother to leave. Just as she was about to step out, she heard Shen Wanfen's threatening words:

Shuyao froze in place, her limbs stiffening.
Shen Wanfen's words felt like a bucket of cold water poured over her head. She felt cold from her body to her heart.
Seeing this reaction, Shen Wanfen quickly added, "Good daughter, listen to your mother—go find Ji Linchuan right now and take him away from that woman! If necessary, use drugs! Think of a way yourself!"
