My mom is undoubtedly a shrew, and Chen Siyuan is as strong as an ox. When these two equally matched contenders clash, it’s bound to be quite a spectacle! 0

Wait, Chen Siyuan is a ghost! She has gained a new skill, which makes my mom quite dangerous! 0

Thinking this, I immediately dashed to the kitchen. Upon entering, I realized I had only guessed the beginning and not the end. Chen Siyuan was getting up from the floor, struggling to lift her right arm with her left hand. It was she who was injured! Mom, has your combat power skyrocketed? You can actually tear apart a female ghost with your bare hands? 0

I looked at my mom and noticed her expression was complicated, her gaze evasive. According to my detective instincts, this was a sign of guilt when a contender had cheated! 0

“Mom, what did you do to Siyuan?” I hurried over to help Chen Siyuan up. 0

“You child, how can you not even trust your mother?” My mom's speech was somewhat stuttered, guilt evident in her tone. 0

Chen Siyuan quickly said, “Wheat, it’s nothing. I just accidentally burned myself.” 0

“Really?” Do you think I’m an idiot? There was a cigarette-sized burn on her palm emitting faint smoke, and her neck had some discoloration as if it had been corroded by something. How could that possibly be a burn? Besides, how could a ghost even get burned? That would be a rare phenomenon indeed. 0

“Wheat, hurry and take Xiao Chen to apply some medicine. I’ll handle things here!” My mom urged me with the spatula in hand. “Young people these days don’t know how to do any housework.” 0

“Mom, did you forget to brush your teeth after rinsing this morning?” 0

“What’s wrong? Can you smell my bad breath from that far away?” My mom exclaimed in surprise as she took a deep breath to check. 0

I didn’t give her any face and shot back, “I’m not smelling your bad breath; your words stink!” With that, I made a face at her while supporting Chen Siyuan out of the kitchen. 0

My mom was so furious that she started yelling about going on strike in the kitchen. Dad quickly put down the remote control to comfort her. 0

Of course, Chen Siyuan’s injury couldn’t be healed just by applying medicine. I worriedly asked her, “Siyuan, tell me the truth—did my mom do something to you?” But why would my mom do anything to Chen Siyuan? 0

Could it be that she heard the news about Chen Siyuan's death outside? 0

After all, good news travels slowly while bad news travels fast. Our university is somewhat well-known nationwide, and with someone having died, it would likely have spread far and wide in this age of advanced communication. 0

Although the school has tried to suppress the matter as much as possible, there’s no telling how it might have reached my mom's ears. 0

And my mom has so many medicines sent to her by Rice; any one of them could easily make Chen Siyuan disappear without a trace. 0

I began to feel anxious. What if Chen Siyuan really was threatened by my mom? What should I do? Help my family or help a friend? How could I possibly choose? Besides, this isn't just a matter of right or wrong! 0

Chen Siyuan, however, laughed heartily. "Look at you worrying so much! I already told you I accidentally burned myself. Even ghosts can get burned; otherwise, why would they be so afraid of fire?" 0

I thought about it for a moment, and it seemed to make sense. 0

Since she insisted it was an accident, there was no need for me to keep holding onto my own mother. 0

At dinner that night, my mom was as warm as ever towards Chen Siyuan, constantly serving her food. "Xiao Chen, you've been away from school for two days now. Today is only Thursday. Students should prioritize their studies; I can understand skipping class occasionally—you're young! But staying away for too long isn’t appropriate. You should go back to class as soon as possible." 0

My mom's subtle hint to send her away couldn't have been clearer. I awkwardly said, "Mom, what are you doing? It's late at night, and our place is remote. How can you expect her to go back?" 0

My mom poked Dad with her elbow, and he quickly replied, "Wheat, how can you think that way about your mother? Of course, we will arrange a ride for Xiao Chen." 0

Oh wow, now they were blaming me! I had no idea my parents were so generous as to offer a ride to someone! 0

I wanted to say more but was interrupted by Chen Siyuan. "Uncle and Auntie, thank you for your concern. I'll be going back to school tonight; don't worry!" 0

"This is what a good child looks like," my mom said with a satisfied nod. 0

But I was quite upset. 0

My mom can be harsh with her words sometimes, but deep down, she really loves me. Whenever my classmates or friends come over, she always welcomes them warmly and never neglects them. Yet today, she insisted on sending Chen Siyuan away! What made me even angrier was that Dad was backing her up! 0

And the so-called car they called for was still from the mental hospital. I could hardly believe I was their daughter. 0

I told the Mosquito Spirit driver, "Just go, and never come back! You're practically becoming our family's personal driver!" 0

To my surprise, the Mosquito Spirit replied cheerfully, "I don't mind at all." 0

Damn it! How much do you enjoy this? 0

My mom watched Chen Siyuan get into the car and leave, then she returned to the house with a beaming smile as if a huge weight had been lifted off her shoulders. 0

"Mom, do you really have to look so happy?" I complained as I followed her inside. "How am I supposed to face my classmates after you chased someone away like that?" 0

My mom pulled me aside mysteriously. "Wheat, it's better if you stay away from that classmate of yours. Keep your distance as much as possible, got it?" 0

"But we're roommates! Do you want me to sleep across the hall?" 0

"What? She's your roommate?!" My mom exclaimed. 0

She nearly scared me to death! My ears felt like they were about to burst! 0

“Always focusing on selling vegetables and not caring about your daughter’s school life, hmph!” I shot my mother a look of resentment before quickly darting into the house to play with Rice. 0

“Hey, you child! You’re already a mother yourself and still don’t understand the hardships of being a parent? I wake up early and work late all for you…” 0

“Alright, alright! Just stop selling vegetables! Stay home and be a rich lady, I’ll support you, okay?” 0

My mother didn’t respond to my suggestion but muttered, “It’s already seven o’clock. Why hasn’t Rongrong come back yet? Is he still working overtime? Wheat, I just secretly left a bowl of chicken soup for Rongrong. Can you see if you can take it to him?” 0

“Mother, do you even know where your son-in-law is?” 0

“How would I know? He’s your husband; don’t you know?” 0

“I don’t know.” I pouted. 0

Speaking of which, Su Anrong hadn’t shown up all day. How long was he going to be in the Underworld? He keeps saying I’m his wife but doesn’t tell me anything about his schedule. I really don’t understand what he means by that. 0

In the evening, I curled up on the sofa with Rice, watching cartoons. He laughed heartily at Bald Qiang while I was still torn about whether to ask him when Su Anrong would be back. The contrast in our moods made me feel quite desolate. 0

“Rice, you can’t turn into rice every night to sleep, right? When are you going to ask your daddy to buy you a proper bed?” After much hesitation, I finally managed to speak up. Hopefully, my dear son could sense that I actually wanted to ask when his father would return! 0

To my surprise, Rice didn’t even blink and continued staring at the TV: “Mommy, you’re right! Hahahaha! That idiot Bald Qiang!” 0

I sighed. 0

Forget it; I’ll wait until he finishes this episode! 0

After a long wait, I finally found myself watching an advertisement. I quickly said, "Rice, tell your dad to buy a computer tomorrow. We can watch the entire series online!" 0

"I like watching it in installments. If I binge-watch it all at once, there won't be anything left for next time!" Rice then started to excitedly recount the plot he had just seen. 0

"Oh." I realized that I had wasted my breath; how could he not understand my hint? 0

Seeing my disappointed expression, Rice cheerfully patted my shoulder. "Don't worry, Mommy. Daddy will be back soon. He won't abandon us!" 0

I wanted to ask him exactly when he would return, but I was too concerned about being left behind. 0

Just then, my phone suddenly rang with an unfamiliar number. 0

Curious, I answered it, only to hear a voice so sweet it made me shiver. "A-Shang, you finally picked up my call." 0

A-Shang? What on earth? 0

I replied irritably, "Who are you?" 0

On the other end, the sweet voice turned into a furious shriek in an instant. "Who the hell are you?" 0

I had no idea who this person was, but through the phone, I could feel her boiling anger as if something was about to crawl out of the receiver and pierce my ears. 0
