The day before Shinmori and Kakeru went to meet the Raimon team, in a training ground somewhere, Goenji approached the goal with the ball. "Blazing Tornado!"
Shinmori crossed his fists in front of his chest, and at the moment his fists glowed, he jumped up calmly. "Dimensional Pocket!" A massive shockwave spread from him.
As Blazing Tornado made contact with the shockwave, the flames on the ball dissipated, leaving it floating in the air. Shinmori effortlessly snatched the soccer ball down with his right hand and tossed it to Kakeru.
Kakeru easily dodged the approaching defenders from Raimon. With a simple shot, the ball passed between Kurimatsu, Bishan, and Minoru's legs. Even Endou couldn't react in time, and Raimon lost a point.
The electronic scoreboard behind them displayed the score: Mikage Agricultural School 4 - 0 Raimon. "The match is over; please save the simulation training data." The screen boldly stated, '(The probability of defeating Raimon Junior High School is 99.9%)'.
A guy wearing a strange one-eyed device adjusted the panel in front of him while speaking to a tall figure in sunglasses and a reggae-haired swimmer beside him. "Commander, this is our Mikage Agricultural School's independently developed advanced system."
"Those soccer players are controlled by our school's proud computer system," he proudly pointed to himself. "And this system was developed by me, Dr. Toyama."
As the camera zoomed in, it revealed that the tall figure in sunglasses was Kageyama, while the swimmer with reggae hair was Kidou. Kageyama ignored the 'doctor' and quietly remarked, "I see. Although it's just a mere computer program, it can achieve this level."
Though Kageyama's words carried no emotion, for the doctor, hearing such praise from Kageyama felt like a compliment. However, before he could bask in his pride for too long, Kageyama doused him with cold water. "But..."
Kageyama pulled his hand out of his pants pocket and pointed at the virtual projection on the field. "He is not that weak." Following Kageyama's finger led to a white-haired boy.
Upon hearing Kageyama's words, although the doctor verbally dismissed it as impossible, he didn't stop typing furiously on his keyboard as data about Yae Shiki was projected one by one. After several seconds of system analysis, the doctor became more convinced of his thoughts and countered Kageyama, saying, "Impossible; according to our computer analysis, his strength is only this much."
Kageyama glanced at the data in front of him and frowned slightly before immediately asking the doctor, "Where did you collect this data?"
The doctor replied, "It's from Raimon's previous battles against Imperial Academy, Oni Gari Middle School, and Wild Junior High."
Kageyama sighed and shook his head. "No wonder his performance is so poor in this simulation battle." The doctor was shocked; after all, the system rated Shiki as an A—a rating that was rarely seen even in national competitions.
"He still hasn't shown his full strength."
As Kageyama said this, his sunglasses glinted. He reached into the pocket of his suit and pulled out a USB drive.
"Input this data and let's run the test again."
With that, he casually tossed the USB drive in the direction of the doctor. The doctor fumbled to catch it. "Got it, Commander."
After a flurry of typing on the keyboard, the new data was entered. With the press of the confirmation key, the projection of Shiki on the field was refreshed.
The doctor pressed the microphone switch and addressed those below at Mikage Agricultural School, "We will restart the test now."
At the doctor's command, the match began anew. Although somewhat confused, the 'robots' on the field obediently followed orders.
Mikage Agricultural School kicked off, with Forward Kakeru sprinting towards Raimon Goal. Everything unfolded just as before; he accelerated past Shaolin Temple and turned sharply around Kazemaru. The same people, the same actions—it felt like a replay of a video.
But…
A sense of unease lingered in Kakeru's mind. He focused on Yae Shiki, the source of his discomfort. Yet he couldn't pinpoint what was off.
This time, Shiki stood in the Defender position.
Yes…
Shiki was merely standing there. If he weren't wearing a jersey on the field, one might think he was waiting for someone by the roadside.
Just as Kakeru passed by Shiki, he finally made a move.
"!!!"
Shiki dashed past Kakeru, and suddenly Kakeru felt light underfoot. Looking down, he realized the ball was no longer at his feet.
Understanding dawned on Kakeru as he turned to look at Shiki; indeed, Shiki had taken the ball from him.
"The ball…"
Shiki smiled and declared, "Sagittarius Bow!"
With that move, Sagittarius Bow pierced through the entire field, shattering Mikage Agricultural School's goal.
The entire arena was silent, with only the thick dust in the goal of Mikage Agricultural School and Kageyama's gloomy smile breaking the stillness.
"How is this possible..."
The doctor widened his eyes, pounding on the keyboard as he searched for the replay.
In the playback, at the moment Kakeru ran past Shiki, Shiki extended his foot to the side and deftly hooked the ball away.
The doctor expressed disbelief, "This can't be! Normally, this would definitely trip someone!"
Kageyama said calmly, "Watch closely."
The doctor replayed it at 0.25 speed.
When Kakeru was at an angle in front of Shiki, Shiki stretched out his foot just as Kakeru kicked the ball forward, smoothly hooking it away.
Cold sweat trickled down the doctor's face. "This isn't a technique that a human can use..."
While the doctor was watching the replay, the match continued on the field.
There, Shiki demonstrated what it meant to have dominance and pressure as a Forward, while also showcasing the defensive strength and threat level of a Defender.
In just ten minutes, the score between Mikage Agricultural School and Raimon Junior High School had reached zero to three.
What had once been easily defendable by Dimensional Pocket now felt as flimsy as paper.
And techniques that could easily score before now couldn't even get past Shiki's Heaven's Gate.
The doctor leaned on the table, his excitement turning his face crimson. "No... it can't be!!!"
"Exceptional skills, sharp attacks, powerful defense—any one of these abilities would be enough to make him a star player."
"And he possesses them all!!!"
He suddenly turned to Kageyama. "Commander, what is going on?!"
Kageyama's smile remained as he slowly replied, "This is his data from last year's Tomorrow's Star Football Tournament."
The doctor shook his head in disbelief. "Impossible! I found no record of Yae Shiki participating last year."
"Of course not."
Kageyama adjusted his sunglasses. "Because he wasn't using that name."
The doctor thought for a moment before realization dawned on him. "So it's that guy from over there."
"Then why is he at Raimon Junior High School?"
Kageyama frowned, slightly annoyed as he said, "You're asking too many questions."
"Sorry, Commander!"
Kageyama's attitude made it clear to the doctor that this was not something at his level to inquire about.
Minutes passed by.
"The match is over."
The doctor wiped away cold sweat. "I knew there would be a significant score difference, but this is just too outrageous..."
12-0
All twelve points were scored solely by Shiki.
The bright red letters on the screen pierced the Doctor's eyes.
‘(The probability of defeating Raimon Junior High School is 0%)’
“This…”
The Doctor wanted to turn and look for Kageyama, but Kageyama had already left with Kidou.
He pounded on the keyboard in frustration, roaring angrily, “Is this what Commander is telling me? That my research is only at this level?!”
“…”
He mumbled something under his breath, then slammed his hands on the table with such force that they turned red.
“…My Cyborg technology is the most powerful.”
“There’s still a week until the match against Raimon.”
“As long as I strengthen the brainwashing, my Cyborgs will become even stronger.”
He grabbed the microphone and pressed the call button, “Shinmori, Kakeru, starting today, I will intensify your training. Crush him for me!! I want to prove that we are the strongest!”
Shinmori and Kakeru replied mechanically, “Yes.”
However, both of them simultaneously looked at the projection of Yae Shiki, as if trying to imprint that figure in their minds.
