“Where have you been, Chu Fan?”
“Come on, baby, let’s talk about it later.” Chu Fan said, pulling my hand and leading me outside, completely ignoring the gazes of those around us.
I pretended to be coy, wrapping my arms around Chu Fan’s and playfully saying, “No way! Let’s go shopping, okay?”
Watching their interaction made my heart ache.
Chu Fan squinted at me, taking a long moment before responding.
For some reason, I felt like he was looking at me but also not really seeing me. It was a complicated feeling.
“Alright, let’s go!”
Chu Fan didn’t refuse, which made me very happy.
But inside, I felt even worse.
Did he really not notice that I was no longer myself? Or did he notice but chose to ignore it?
A sense of loss spread within me, akin to being abandoned.
Because of my request, Chu Fan spent the day with me outside the campus, and we didn’t return to my apartment until it was dark.
“Fan, I’m so tired, but I don’t want to leave you. What should I do?”
“Is that so?” Chu Fan said as he wrapped his arms around me and gently stroked my hair, a carefree smile playing on his lips. “If you don’t want to leave, then just behave.”
“Mm, I definitely will.”
"Go take a shower first."
"And you?"
"I'll wash up after you're done."
The meaning of this exchange was crystal clear; it meant that tonight, Chu Fan would be staying over.
This made me very happy, but deep down, I felt a pang of discomfort.
Seeing how much fun they had today, didn't Chu Fan notice anything different about me at all?
A sense of helplessness wrapped around me tightly, causing my heart to ache painfully.
I knew how desperately I wanted Chu Fan to realize something was off, to see that the person I was pretending to be wasn't really me. Yet here we were, and he still hadn't noticed. He was planning to stay in my room tonight and do something with her.
The thought of someone occupying my body while I had to watch them engage in such acts made my heart feel as if it were being invaded by ants.
"Gu Anxin, it seems Jun Chong hasn't noticed you today. After tonight, I will be his only woman, and you can just stay here."
A woman's cold voice echoed, carrying a final warning.
I remained silent, closing my eyes and clenching my fists. What could I do but feel unwilling?
Skeletal hands reached up from the ground, grabbing at my legs and pulling me upward. I struggled to break free and ran forward, but before I could take a step, I fell.
A chilling pain shot through my ankle, invading my heart as countless hands surrounded me, gradually pulling me down.
"Come with us!"
"Come, join us!"
I saw my feet sinking into the ground, countless tiny creatures crawling over them like ants, slipping into my flesh, and in an instant, something within me began to drain away.
"No, let go of me, let go!"
I screamed desperately, but the surroundings were empty; no one could come to save me.
Through the gaps between my fingers, I watched as the light above gradually shrank, tears streaming down from my eyes.
"Jun Chong, where are you?"
"Are you done? I'm coming in."
Chu Fan's voice came from outside. In the blink of an eye, I found myself squatting on the ground again, everything quiet around me as if nothing had happened, yet my back was drenched in cold sweat.
"Yes, I'm done." The woman turned to me and said, "I'll spare you today."
Spare me?
A bitter smile tugged at the corners of my mouth.
