Molin said this one sentence before the communication was cut off, which made my heart race. I hurriedly pulled Lin You and rushed back to Chu Fan's house.
As I was leaving the school gate, I ran into Chu Fan and Li Li. The two of them were holding hands, strolling through the school, looking very affectionate. Chu Fan's face was pale, but his eyes were particularly sharp, filled with malice that couldn't hide his murderous intent.
On the other hand, Li Li looked at Chu Fan with trembling eyes, a mix of panic in her gaze, far from her previous arrogance.
A strange thought suddenly intruded into my mind, but I brushed it aside and hurried home as fast as I could.
As soon as I entered the door, I shouted, “ Molin, have you found anything? Did you locate Jun Chong? Where is he? Any news?”
“I haven't been looking for Jun Chong, I've been analyzing the aura left in this freezer,” Molin replied wearily, leaning against the sofa. The entire living room was a mess with his belongings scattered everywhere. It's a wonder that Chu Fan hasn't come to ask for this house back yet.
But even if he did want it back, I wouldn't hand it over until I found some clues about Jun Chong, even if I wasn't living here anymore.
“Have you noticed anything strange about Li Li?”
When he said that, Lin You and I exchanged glances because we had completely forgotten about that after yesterday's events. Molin must have sensed our silence but surprisingly wasn't angry.
“Forget it; we'll talk about that later.” Molin took a sip of water, sat up from the sofa, and waved us over. “Come look at this.”
Lin You and I walked over. Molin pulled out a book from a pile of “junk.” It had a cover made of leather-like paper and looked very old, with strange characters and bizarre patterns drawn on it.
“What is this?” Lin You frowned.
“Soul Resurrection Array?” I furrowed my brow, pointing at the illustration on the page that Molin had opened. “What is this?”
To my surprise, when I looked up, Molin was staring at me with wide eyes, his mouth agape as if he could fit a fist inside. I blinked and noticed that Lin You had the same expression. I couldn't help but touch my face. “What’s wrong with you guys?”
Lin You said, “Anxin, can you understand these strange characters?”
"I don't know either, but it seems obvious what it means."
"Anxin, can you really understand it?" Seeing me nod, Molin flipped a page and pointed to a line of characters, asking, "What does this say?"
"Yin and Yang are two extremes; Yin represents coldness, darkness, gathering, and materialization. Yang represents heat, light, transformation, and vaporization. Within Yin lies Yang, and within Yang lies Yin; the interaction of these energies creates harmony..."
"That's enough." Molin flipped through a few more pages and pointed to an illustration. "Do you know what this pattern is? I mean, can you see what it's composed of?"
"Phoenixes, dragons, and the sun and moon." I was confused by Molin's questions and asked nervously, " Molin, what is this? Why can I understand it when Xiao You cannot?"
Molin looked at me strangely and explained, "This book contains the ancient Yin-Yang Techniques. It details the Yin-Yang Techniques that are part of the Su Family's secret arts. Due to certain circumstances, it ended up in the hands of my Great Ancestor Master. Because it is so detailed, it has been passed down through generations. My Great Ancestor Master spent decades deciphering the characters within it and established rules for our sect. Those within the sect can learn the Yin-Yang Techniques combined with Taoist arts, but only those who truly understand it are qualified to inherit this book. You are the second person I've seen who could read this book at first glance."
"Wow, that's amazing!" Lin You exclaimed in surprise. "Who was the first?"
Molin smirked slightly, crossing his arms and casually propping up one leg. The implication was clear. Lin You gasped, "It was you?"
"Yes."
"Oh my! Molin, you're incredible! To be such a powerful Taoist at such a young age with this kind of skill—why didn't I meet you sooner? It's settled then; you're my friend now, and there's no backing out!"
In response to Lin You's excitement, Molin's expression grew even more smug. "That's absolutely right."
I watched him with a smile until they had their fun before saying, "Back to business—what have you found out?"
At this mention, Molin immediately became serious again. He flipped back to the first page and said, "The Soul Resurrection Array can bring a person's soul back to life. The power of this formation is extreme; its effectiveness depends entirely on the skill of the practitioner."
I asked curiously, "Is that really possible?"
"For example," he continued, "if the practitioner is just a beginner, they can at most summon wandering souls from this world. But if they are an adept practitioner, as long as the summoned soul has not undergone reincarnation, they can call it back from anywhere."
Upon hearing this, my eyes lit up as I suddenly grabbed Molin's hand and shook it. "Then hurry up and use this formation to help me summon Jun Chong back. He is a Spirit and can be brought back."
"That's true, but—"
" Molin, I'm begging you. No matter what you want, as long as you help me bring Jun Chong's soul back, I will agree to anything." I clutched Molin's arm tightly and knelt on the sofa. " Molin, please, I really can't lose Jun Chong. I beg you to help me this one time, okay?"
"Anxin, what are you doing? Get up. We can talk about this properly."
"Yes, Anxin, get up. If Molin was confident, he would have done it already. Since he hasn't attempted it, there must be a reason. Don't rush; let's hear what he has to say."
Lin You and Molin each pulled me back onto the sofa. Lin You handed me a tissue to wipe my tears and said with concern, "I know you're worried about Jun Chong and can't eat or sleep well, but if you fall apart, who will wait for his return? Jun Chong loves you, and you love him. You both want to see each other at first glance. For that wish, Anxin, you need to be strong."
"Mm." I bit my lip tightly, forcing myself to stabilize my emotions. After taking a deep breath for a while, I said to Molin, "Sorry, could you continue what you were saying?"
"It's fine." Molin looked at me with a strange expression, as if he were struggling intensely before finally saying, "Jun Chong's abilities far exceed mine; I lack the power. However, if Shizui is present, perhaps we can give it a try, but the chance of success is only fifty percent."
Upon hearing this, I realized that Molin agreeing to collaborate with Shizui was a significant concession. Tears that I had been holding back flowed down again as I nodded vigorously with pursed lips, trying to calm my emotional turmoil. "Thank you; I'm really grateful."
"Shizui?" Lin You looked at us in confusion.
I was about to speak when Molin interrupted, "We'll discuss that later. The current issue is to resolve Chu Fan's situation first." He paused here, his expression turning serious as his dark brows knitted together tightly. "Yesterday, I pretended to deliver something to Chu Fan's house and sensed a faint trace of Curse energy inside. Later, I used talismans to track Chu Fan and found that he carried the same energy. This matched exactly with the residual soul fluctuations and Curse energy in the freezer. Based on this information, I've made a bold assumption: someone used the Soul Resurrection Array to bring back Chu Fan's soul."
At this point in the conversation, everyone would typically assume that Chu Fan had been revived; however, Molin shifted his tone abruptly. "But it failed."
Lin You asked in confusion, "Failed? Then who is this Chu Fan?"
"Still Chu Fan."
"Still?"
"Yes." Molin's tone turned sharp, laced with a chilling coldness as he spoke each word deliberately. "He failed and then was forcefully bound by the Forbidden Spell, so now although Chu Fan's soul has returned to his body, it hasn't truly integrated. I believe there are certain reasons causing a rejection between his body and soul, much like how a person becomes a Zombie after death. But Chu Fan shouldn't be a Zombie, nor is he a ghost."
"What is he then?"
"Corpse Charm." Molin frowned, rubbing his forehead, clearly feeling a headache coming on. "This kind of thing is difficult to deal with in emergencies. I don't have everything I need on hand, so we can't confront this head-on; we can only find a workaround."
The concept of Corpse Charm was something I had only seen in movies, but now I felt that even if gods or monsters stood before me, I wouldn't find it strange. It truly confirmed the saying that familiarity breeds acceptance.
Molin expressed uncertainty, which meant Lin You and I had even less chance of success. However, Chu Fan's desire to return was intense from the very beginning; it was far more than just wanting to inhabit his body again. I still remembered the last words he whispered in my ear, and a thought nagged at me: with Jun Chong's disappearance, he must know something.
After a brief silence, I initiated the conversation. " Molin, do you know who turned him into a Corpse Charm?"
"Although a Corpse Charm has its own consciousness, it won't stray too far from its caster."
"Could it be Li Li?!" Lin You shouted, and I nodded in agreement. Lin You slapped his thigh and grabbed my hand. "How could she not realize she could do this?"
"That's why you both need to investigate thoroughly," Molin said as he closed the book and took a sip of water before continuing. "A Corpse Charm that isn't naturally formed is bound to its master like a pet ghost, but they are far more dangerous; they will turn on their host as soon as they see an opportunity."
"But that doesn't make sense," I said, puzzled. "I saw Chu Fan with Li Li today; they looked very affectionate together. It didn't seem like he was about to turn on her."
"You fool! That's because he hasn't found the right opportunity yet!" Lin You exclaimed excitedly, sounding like someone sharpening their knives for slaughter. " Molin, it's settled then. You find a way to eliminate the Corpse Charm while Anxin and I investigate Li Li. Once we confirm she's the one behind this, we'll notify you immediately."
"Yes, this matter is very dangerous; you must be careful. Especially you, Anxin—don't get hurt. Your blood is a deadly attraction for those things."
