Upon returning to the hotel and resting for two days, Lin You and I were finally ready to head back home. During this time, Jun Chong had not shown up at all. I hesitantly asked Shizui about it, but he also claimed he didn't know.
"Anxin, don't worry. As long as the Ghost Marriage isn't resolved, you two are still married. He probably just can't figure things out right now," Shizui said with a comforting smile as he gently patted my head. "Since it's a deep-seated hope, it won't be easily abandoned. Don't overthink it; just focus on resting and taking care of yourself. You've looked so worn out lately."
"But this is my fault. Regardless of whether he forgives me or not, I want to apologize to him," I sighed. Lin You's loud voice called for us to hurry downstairs; the car was arriving. I waved in response and went down with Shizui, suddenly recalling something and asking, "Shizui, why did Molin's sister die after you two arranged the Ghost Marriage? Is that how all Ghost Marriages end?"
"She—" Shizui paused for a moment before continuing, "She died saving me. But I can feel that she's waiting for me somewhere. One day, I will find her again."
I stared at Shizui in a daze; his unwavering determination stung my eyes. He had waited for so long while holding onto this belief. I wondered if one day when I was gone, Jun Chong would feel the same way.
As we exited Picturesque, I realized there was someone else returning with us besides Shizui—the warm and handsome Su Ziqian from the restaurant. He smiled at me politely and subtly, "Miss Gu."
"Mr. Su."
Once we got into the car, I gently tugged at Lin You's sleeve and whispered, "How come he's with us? What have you all been doing these days?"
"Miss Anxin, I'm seriously telling you now that Su Ziqian is my boyfriend, so please call him 'brother-in-law,' okay?" Lin You said with a mischievous grin.
"Brother-in-law?" My eyes widened as I imagined Ling Feng and Molin's heartbroken expressions upon hearing this. "Are you crazy?"
"I'm not crazy; I really like him! And—" Lin You flashed me a sly smile. "He's an executive at Su Group. I've already sorted out your job there. When I return from abroad, I'll also be working for the Su family. You should thank your sister!"
"Xiao You, are you really not crazy?" I was shocked by Lin You's speed and reached out to touch her forehead. "You're not burning up? Did something go wrong inside?"
"You’re the one who’s burning up! Everything I'm doing is for you! Do you know how many people are dying to get into the Su family? This opportunity is right in front of you; why wouldn't you take it? Get yourself together! Su Ziqian said he’ll report in late August, and the offer letter will be sent to you."
“Xiao You is right, Miss Gu. I sincerely invite you to join the Su Family and work together in the future.” Su Ziqian extended his hand toward me, and when I hesitated to respond, he smiled slightly and asked, “Is Miss Gu unwilling?”
“She’s not unwilling; she’s just a bit stunned,” Lin You darted forward to sit beside Su Ziqian. I blinked in disbelief and glanced at Shizui, “Is my job settled like this?”
At that moment, Shizui was engrossed in a book. Upon hearing my words, he merely smiled. “In terms of work, Su Group is indeed a great place; such a rare opportunity shouldn’t be missed. But if we’re talking about personal feelings, I’m not too supportive of you going.”
“Why?”
“I’d like to know why too,” Su Ziqian chimed in with curiosity.
Shizui looked up at him, his deep gaze holding meanings I couldn’t comprehend. “I just feel that way.”
“Hey.” Su Ziqian smiled, pondering as he looked at Shizui, who returned to his book without saying much more and turned to chat with Lin You.
I put on my headphones and listened to music, gradually drifting off to sleep. A cool sensation enveloped me, reminiscent of Jun Chong’s presence, making it particularly comfortable in the heat. Instinctively, I leaned closer and fell into a deep slumber.
Perhaps it was due to exhaustion; when I finally woke up, we had already arrived in the city. Shizui sat beside me, quietly continuing to read. Noticing I was awake, he smiled gently. “Awake now?”
“Shizui?” I rubbed my eyes to see him clearly. A flicker of disappointment crossed my mind, but Shizui caught it immediately. “Who else would it be?”
“I—” My face flushed as the car stopped by the roadside. “We’re home; let me take you upstairs.”
“Where’s Xiao You?” I looked around but couldn’t spot Lin You or Su Ziqian.
“Xiao You was called back by her family. She asked you to call her once you get home.”
"Oh."
I followed Shizui up the stairs as he pondered the surroundings and said to me, "Do you need me to find you a different room? A more comfortable place would be good for your mood."
"No need, I think this place is just fine. The room you picked is too stuffy."
I looked around for the source of a voice and finally spotted a figure in the shadows of the hallway. He approached us with his hands stuffed in his pockets, and as he came into view, I realized it was Molin, looking disheveled, with hair like a bird's nest and a weary expression.
"Molin?" I exclaimed, surprised as I took him in from head to toe and teased, "Where did you crawl out from?"
"Enough chit-chat. Just open the door and let me in to rest. If you don't come back soon, I'm going to kick the door down," Molin said, scratching his head and making his messy hair look even more styled.
"This is my home, not yours. Why are you in such a hurry?" Even though I said that, I still took out my keys to unlock the door. Shizui helped me carry my things inside and managed not to argue with Molin, who completely ignored him. Once inside, he boldly grabbed a can of drink from the fridge, took a few swigs, and collapsed onto the sofa, panting heavily.
"Anxin, I'm heading back now. Call me if you need anything."
"Thank you, Shizui."
After seeing Shizui off, I returned to the living room where Molin was lounging with his legs crossed, looking lively as he flipped through channels on the TV. He had rummaged through my snacks and was munching away while showing off.
I kicked him lightly in annoyance. "This is my home; stop treating it like yours."
"What does it matter? We're practically family now," Molin replied with a smirk, patting the seat next to him and inviting me to sit down.
"Family? With you?" I asked skeptically. My stomach grumbled a bit, so I decided not to be polite and sat down to eat and drink with him.
"I went back to the Sect and told your story to my master. To my surprise, my Shishu is very interested in you and urged me to bring you back, expressing a desire to take you as a disciple. That's why I came to find you."
"I don't want to be a Taoist," I rejected without a second thought. "If I'm going to do anything, I want to be a Yin-Yang Master."
"Pfft, what's so great about that? My master's sect is top-notch; everyone steps back three paces when they see us. It's been ages since he actively took in a disciple, and here you are, a wasteland brat, not satisfied?" Molin tapped my head and shot me an unkind glare. "After you graduate, come back with me to the Sect, learn from my master, and remember to show some respect to your senior brother."
"Forget it. With your level, I wouldn't want to," I turned away in refusal, feeling like bickering with Molin had become a habit.
Later, I went to the supermarket to buy some groceries and then returned home to cook. After eating, I lay on the sofa with Molin, bored, watching TV when suddenly I remembered the main reason for his return.
"Did you find any clues about the Soul Bell?"
"Not really, but I did discover traces of that Refine Ghost you mentioned."
I was startled. "Where?"
"My Shishu's divination indicated it's in the Southwest direction of The City."
"Southwest?" I scratched my head. "My Grandfather's House is in that direction."
"I asked Shishu about the traces on you. He said this kind of Refine Ghost is tricky to deal with, but everything exists in mutual restraint. As long as we find something that counters her, we can use it to coerce her into releasing you. Since she has been lingering there for quite some time, there must be something significant nearby."
I frowned. "This is harder than finding the Soul Bell!"
"Gu Anxin, if you ever die one day, it will definitely be because you're too foolish." Molin firmly grabbed my ear, looking at me like an elder who was frustrated with their younger counterpart. "Even if you find the Soul Bell, can you guarantee it will trade fairly? We need to find her weakness first; then we can trick her into giving us the Soul Bell."
"Pain, pain!"
I had finally managed to save my ears, and I felt that Mo Lin was right. Since Lin Shan wanted to obtain the Soul Bell and the Soul-Calling Bell, there was bound to be trouble. Not to mention breaking a promise, if she got her hands on those two items and ended up causing harm to innocent lives, wouldn't I become an accomplice?
"Then shall we go find her?"
"Not yet. Let's wait until your graduation ceremony is over." Molin lazily turned over, resting his hands behind his head. "Even though Jun Chong has lost his memory, we don't know if he would be willing to help. But you should still invite him along; after all, he's stronger than us in dangerous situations."
Upon hearing this, I stiffened and watched the characters on the television change without sound. Molin lazily opened his eyes and looked at me. "What's wrong? Did something happen between you two?"
"He... he left."
"What do you mean he left?" Molin sat up closer to me. "Isn't there the Twinborn Vine? Just call for him, and he'll come back."
"But... but." I stammered for a moment before finally gritting my teeth and extending my right hand. "The Twinborn Vine broke, so he left."
Molin's eyes widened in shock. I didn't dare look at him as I lowered my head. It had been several days since that day, yet Jun Chong had not appeared. I couldn't find him or sense his presence. Now, all I could do was try not to think about it and hold on.
"What exactly is going on?" Seeing me silent and only softly sobbing, Molin became furious. "If you don't tell me, how can I help you? Your Ghost Marriage remains unresolved, and now he has disappeared. Do you know how much more dangerous this is than the Ghost Marriage itself?"
"Why?"
Molin poked my forehead in frustration. "This means that those who hate him can take advantage of the situation! Don't you feel any sense of crisis?"
