I fell to the ground, watching everything unfold in an instant as my consciousness began to fade. In my blurred vision, I saw Jun Chong recklessly confronting Hellfire.
"Jun Chong."
The faint call had no effect. I wanted to remove the Qilin Hairpin from my hair, using the power of the Golden Qilin to help them, but my outstretched hand was brutally crushed against the ground by the King of Hell, who ground it down with a mocking laugh.
"That last strike from Shizui consumed most of your spiritual energy. At this moment, it's impossible for him to strike again. And your Jun Chong has already exhausted too much spiritual energy for your sake. He is merely a Spirit; being sealed affects his power greatly, and after several injuries, his energy is nearly depleted. Unless they merge into one—meaning one must sacrifice their remaining energy—they cannot break through Hellfire; otherwise, they are doomed."
As the King of Hell said this, he bent down and pinched my cheek, smiling amiably. "Don't be afraid; after all, it's just death!"
"Jun Rui, if you dare to harm her in any way, I will make sure you suffer a thousand deaths!"
Jun Chong stood amidst Hellfire, pure white flames burning beside him. Yet he showed no fear; his Black Long Hair danced in the fiery wind, and his striking red robe only accentuated the colors around him.
He rarely wore red; this was my first time seeing him in such color. Handsome and charismatic beyond words, his innate dominance was impossible to ignore at any moment.
"Hellfire can only be controlled by the King of Hell. To think he still possesses such power after losing that title—impressive indeed."
A voice floated over from a man in white. I lifted my gaze toward Jun Chong and was astonished to see that Hellfire was gradually moving closer to him, obediently flowing into his right hand's Black Sword. The fusion of red, black, and white did not consume him; instead, it formed a faint white halo around Jun Chong.
Jun Rui's expression suddenly changed. "No, it can't be! How could he absorb Hellfire after losing the title of King of Hell and his body?"
The emotional turmoil caused the dark aura surrounding him to swell even more. The oppressive Malice that shook one's soul intensified as well. I curled up under the pressure coursing through me, my consciousness fading, but I fought to stay awake, biting my tongue until it bled.
At that moment, a red flame suddenly surged from within Hellfire beneath the stone sculpture. A sharp bird's cry filled the sky as a phoenix's tail fell from above, illuminating the air with fiery brilliance.
Molin's black figure lay motionless atop it, its fate unknown. It flew straight toward Jun Chong's head, flapping its wings and hovering restlessly.
“Nirvana Rebirth,” the Phoenix in the world, it turns out that Zhuque saved him. I thought I was just a Nine-Tailed Red Fox, but you all are quite clever. Even so, today Anxin and they all must die.”
As the King of Hell spoke, his gaze suddenly turned cold, a red light flashing as dark energy surged into my body. “Anxin, since it’s come to this, lend me your strength!”
“Ah—”
The currents of energy inside and outside my body clashed violently. I rose off the ground, my entire being ablaze with heat that I could no longer control. It felt as if I could smell cooked flesh, emanating from my own body.
I saw Blood Flame uncontrollably manifest in my right hand, darting towards Shizui at an incredible speed. Shizui raised his hands in defense, but the Blood Flame Sword was immensely powerful. Coupled with the King of Hell's strength, it forced him to retreat step by step until he spat out blood and knelt on one knee, unable to resist any longer.
Moreover, because it was my attack, he had almost given up any chance of counterattacking, enduring the pain instead.
With a loud bang, the Golden Gem on Death God's Scythe shattered; the scythe itself was rendered useless as the tip of Blood Flame pierced into Shizui’s body.
“No!”
Regret came too late.
“Shizui, I’m sorry.”
The realization of harming others while my mind was clear reminded me of the First Seal. Whether voluntary or not, the regret brought by that moment would last forever.
Shizui managed a weak smile and shook his head. “I’m fine; you don’t need to blame yourself.” He smiled gently at me as his body fell backward. “Anxin, dissolve that drop of blood; you can do it. Jun Chong needs you.”
“She can’t do it; madness is an inevitable result. The greatest pain comes from losing control while being clear-headed. Even Great-Grandma couldn’t endure it back then; neither can you. Hahaha…”
The King of Hell's arrogant laughter was drowned out by Zhuque's sharp cry. At the same time, Jun Chong completely absorbed Hellfire and broke free, entangling with Jun Rui.
The King of the Underworld never expected to be forced back step by step. Jun Chong's attacks were fierce, showing no mercy, and I knew he wasn't normally like this—unless he was truly angry.
Today, the King of the Underworld had completely provoked him.
The open space of the Underworld Palace was unrecognizable, ravaged by Hellfire. The only ones still standing were us and the Seven Guardians.
Zhuque flew from Jun Chong's side to ours, forming a protective barrier against the approaching guardians.
I stared blankly at Shizui lying on the ground, barely alive. He had exhausted too much spiritual energy earlier, and now, injured by Blood Flame, he had no strength left to resist. Even a Grim Reaper could easily slay him.
The searing heat surged within me, and the Blood Flame Sword vibrated with excitement in my grip, blood staining my hand. Yet it showed no signs of calming down. I felt the sword's eagerness for battle, craving more blood, on the verge of losing control. I fought desperately to suppress it, only causing my own blood to flow even more.
"Anxin, let me help you this time."
With Hellfire absorbed by Jun Chong, Lianchi finally saved Jun Jun. Though she was also badly injured, her first action upon landing was to rush to my side.
"I will use all my Demon Fetus Power to assist you, Anxin. You must hold on," she said while channeling her energy into me through her palms. "Because Jun Chong needs you."
"Jun Jun!" Lianchi tried to step forward to stop her but was silenced by Jun Jun's gaze. I turned to see Lianchi's anxious expression, a hint of despair etched in her features, and I understood completely.
"Jun Jun, don't sacrifice yourself."
"It's not a sacrifice; this life has little time left anyway. Giving it to you is not a waste."
Demon Fetus Power flowed continuously into my body, a clash of cold and hot energies battling within me. The freezing chill and scorching heat left me with no strength even to stand. The waves of energy surged until that soft body pressing against me made the sensation gradually fade away.
I lay on the ground, drenched in sweat that soaked my clothes and tangled my hair as I gasped for breath. Jun Jun lay atop me, her breath faint. "Anxin, remember your promise to me: spare Jun Rui's life. No matter how bad he is, he is still my father, and I love him."
"Jun Jun."
Lianchi rushed over and held Jun Jun tightly in his arms. Even the carefree young master had moments of tears, which fell onto Jun Jun's pale face, completely disregarding his image.
"Jun Jun, you promised me that you would live well. Why are you being so foolish?"
"Rather than letting you follow orders to kill me, I might as well end it myself and help Anxin," Jun Jun said with a smile, trembling as she reached out to touch Lianchi's cheek. He grasped her hand and placed it on his face. "Lianchi, I know you like me and wouldn't have the heart to kill me, but my death is only a matter of time. This has nothing to do with you; please don't blame yourself. You've already sacrificed too much spiritual power to save me; don't be so foolish in the future."
"I only know that giving everything for the one I love is something I willingly do, even if you don't love me."
He gazed longingly at Jun Jun, his deep emotions tinged with a glassy brilliance, yet it was a splendor stained by tears.
"Not in love?" Jun Jun closed her eyes and smiled lightly, her expression faint but sincere, like a newly bloomed daisy—small yet beautiful. "What is love, and what is not love? It's hard to tell."
Lianchi trembled suddenly, shock appearing in his eyes, but Jun Jun kept her eyes closed and did not open them again to answer his confusion. He moved his lips but dared not ask; some things, if pursued too deeply, would only lead to ruin. It was better this way.
The fighting continued ahead. Shizui struggled to get up from the ground and gradually approached to lift Molin off the back of the Vermilion Bird. I saw that Molin's body appeared transparent, just like last night, sending a jolt of panic through my heart once more.
"Molin, he—"
"He’s fine." Shizui checked on his soul condition and then pointed to something hanging around his neck. "Soulstone."
"That was what Jun Jun asked me to give to Jun Chong."
"This thing protected Molin's soul. Combined with the Vermilion Bird's Nirvana Rebirth power, it allowed him to escape from Hellfire." He smiled faintly, carrying a sense of helplessness. "Now I owe him another favor."
But really, what debts existed between them?
“Anxin, are you feeling better?”
I nodded. The shock within my body had subsided, and the Blood Flame Sword was no longer vibrating. Everything seemed to return to calm, but all of this came at the cost of Jun Jun. She was nestled in Lianchi's arms, her breath still present but increasingly faint, as Lianchi expended his own spiritual energy to protect her.
“Don’t waste it; you can’t save her like that.” The man in white suddenly interjected, and even Zhuque did not resist, still focused on dealing with the six guardians. “There’s only one way to save her.”
“What way?” Lianchi and I asked simultaneously.
The man in white gently patted Junxin with one hand and said with a sidelong glance, “Heart Eyes is about to wake up. The air here is too polluted; it’s harmful to her. We need to leave this place quickly.”
I frowned. “The matter of Heart Eyes is indeed important, but we can’t leave right now. You might as well take her away first and tell us how we can save Jun Jun.”
“What he means is that as long as we leave this place and his mood improves, he will tell you how to save me,” Jun Jun said weakly as she opened her eyes, glancing at the spot where the man stood with a helpless smile.
The man did not refute her and admitted honestly, “You understand me well.”
It was clear from their conversation that they knew each other and shared a deep bond, but there was no time to speculate about that now. “Please take them away; I—”
“Want to leave? It’s not that easy!”
The voice of the King of Hell suddenly surged forth, dark energy rushing toward us. The man in white frowned and vanished in an instant. I only cared about Junxin's safety; I didn’t care what happened next.
But with his departure, our defenses were weakened. Moreover, the murderous intent behind the King of Hell's strike was evident; Malice soared high, and even Zhuque was no match for it. In this moment of danger, Jun Chong rushed toward me from behind and shouted, “Anxin, use Golden Qilin!”
