The wind rose silently, blowing the rainwater that fell in straight lines at an angle, droplets splashing onto my arms. I lowered my head, watching the beads of water gather more and more on my skin, my lips pressed tightly together.
Jun Chong said nothing, not even offering any rebuttal. In that moment, I had no idea what he was thinking; the atmosphere was somewhat tense, with only Su Ziqian's smile radiating amidst the heavy rain.
A slight sigh escaped me—not a release of deep sorrow, but merely a means to continue moving forward.
I tightened my grip on Jun Chong's hand and smiled at Su Ziqian, saying, "If I don't feel jealous, it means I don't love you anymore." Jun Chong's hand stiffened slightly, and I tried hard to ignore it, still standing there with a smile. "He is my husband."
What is a husband? A husband is a lifelong companion for his wife. Even if they cannot share the same bed forever, he has once given his heart sincerely. I firmly believe that as long as he does not let go, I will never release this hand.
A subtle smile appeared on Su Ziqian's face as he held up an umbrella and walked over to the side of a parked Lamborghini. "Come inside!"
I nestled beside Jun Chong. Only after he agreed did I get into Su Ziqian's car. The vehicle drove forward without me asking where we were headed; with Jun Chong here, he wouldn't do anything reckless.
After about ten minutes of driving, the car stopped in front of an ancient door. This was in The City’s New Taipei Zone, which was under development, so the roads were spacious and not as crowded as the city center.
The rain fell like a child crying loudly; after a while, it gradually lessened. The light hidden behind the dark clouds flickered faintly but never broke through. Throughout the journey, Jun Chong held my hand tightly while Su Ziqian maintained a polite smile as he opened the ancient door.
"Young Master Su."
As soon as Su Ziqian entered, a little girl came out to greet him. He took off his coat and handed it to her before leading us inside with familiarity.
"This is my home."
The long corridor was adorned with many murals, most of which were decorative. As I reached the living room, a large Five Elements Bagua Diagram occupied a significant portion of the wall to the north, every line and character clearly inscribed.
The ceiling of the entire living room was painted with a Star Map, capturing most of the structure of the night sky and the distribution of constellations in a small space. Standing there felt as if I were beneath the stars, an indescribable wonder.
“Please, have a seat!” Su Ziqian found a comfortable spot to sit, crossing his legs and resting one hand on the armrest of the sofa.
Before long, a young girl brought in tea and snacks. “Young Master Su Ziqian said there are guests arriving, and the meals are still being prepared. Please wait a moment longer.”
“Two guests?”
I frowned; this girl looked no older than her teens. Could she also be a Yin Yang Master? Did she see Jun Chong?
She smiled slightly. “I am Wan'er, Young Master Su Ziqian's Shikigami.”
“Wan'er, you can go now!” Su Ziqian waved his hand, picked up his teacup, blew lightly on the tea leaves, took a sip, and then said, “Every Yin Yang Master has their own Shikigami. Once you enter the Su Family and cultivate, you will have one too.”
“Why did the Su Family choose me?” I stared at him warily. “What is my relationship with Su Yi?”
This was a question I had long wanted to know. However, Su Yi's thoughts indicated that only within the Su Family would I find answers. Jun Chong's memories were damaged, and he could not recall anything about me. Hearing me bring it up so directly made his eyelashes flutter slightly as he loosened his grip on my hand.
I sensed his subtle change; his tightly pressed lips formed an even thinner line.
Su Ziqian blinked and smiled, his fingers tracing the edge of the teacup, making the crystal cup sparkle under the light. He did not answer immediately but instead glanced around for a while.
“The Blood Flame Sword of the Su Family can only be wielded by its creator or by Su Yi. After Su Yi went to the Underworld, the Blood Flame Sword vanished without a trace. For many years we have been searching for its whereabouts but found no leads until your grandfather approached the Su Family.” He paused slightly, seeming somewhat parched as he took another sip of tea before continuing, “Because of Ghost Marriage.”
Su Ziqian cast a sidelong glance at Jun Chong, her gaze softening. "Your grandfather does not want you to marry a ghost, so he seeks the protection of the Su Family. The price is the Blood Flame Sword and your entire life, which must be devoted to the Su Family. Therefore, Anxin, the Su Family is your ultimate belonging."
"But you still haven't answered what my relationship with Su Yi is," I bit my lip and asked with determination. "Am I her reincarnation?"
"No."
Jun Chong immediately denied it without a second thought. Su Ziqian's smile widened as she looked at Jun Chong with an amused expression, her demeanor growing increasingly benevolent.
"You are not."
Jun Chong repeated firmly, gripping my hand tightly. The black Sealing Spell made his handsome features appear somewhat cold under the refracted light, but his tone was an undeniable rebuttal. "You are not Su Yi's reincarnation; this has nothing to do with my memories, yet it can be affirmed without a doubt."
"Anxin, you are indeed not her reincarnation. If you were, Su Yi would not hate you so much." Su Ziqian placed the crystal cup in her hand on the tea table, producing a delicate sound. "Because you are a part of Su Yi. Your existence back then was merely to accompany her in solitude, yet unknowingly, your presence ruined her chance at happiness in life."
Su Ziqian cast a subtle glance at Jun Chong, whose brow furrowed deeply with evident displeasure. "I have never loved Su Yi; that is a fact. The only one I love is Anxin."
My heart soared and fell with his words, eventually finding a comfortable place to settle. I looked at Jun Chong in mild surprise, allowing that astonishment to transform into a smile that lingered at the corners of my mouth.
"Young Master, lunch is ready."
Wan'er interrupted our silence. With a wave of her hand, Su Ziqian led us to the dining room. The dishes laid out were undeniably extravagant; after all, Su Ziqian was the president of Su Group, and her lifestyle would naturally reflect that.
However, I had no appetite for the feast before me. Su Ziqian did not rush me but instead handed me the brocade box engraved with Bagua that she had previously held and opened it.
Inside was a piece of white Yin-Yang Jade, radiating an immaculate whiteness like snow—crystal clear and devoid of any impurities. Unlike the black Soulstone, I could feel the continuous flow of spiritual energy emanating from this Soulstone, refreshing my heart and lungs while alleviating my stress.
"Anxin, I have brought you the Soulstone as promised. As for Qiongqi, I believe once we find him, breaking the seal won't be a problem. Qiongqi is under my Curse, but his innate brute strength is overwhelming and uncontrollable. If he completely loses control and devours the seal, it would be disastrous!"
Su Ziqian ate elegantly, the pressure in his words compelling me to agree.
I sat still, my hands trembling slightly on my lap. The Soulstone was something I had to obtain, but the seal was also extremely important. I couldn't let my selfishness cost Jun Chong the chance to unlock it.
However, Jun Chong didn't want me to enter the Su Family, and even if I did, it shouldn't be under such threats.
My heart wavered until a cool touch covered the back of my hand. I looked up to see the warmth radiating from him, like ripples emerging from an obsidian submerged in water.
"There’s no need to hesitate on the path ahead."
His words acted as a tranquilizer, instantly dispelling many of my concerns. I nodded and said to Su Ziqian, "I agree."
I understood Jun Chong's intentions; our past together and the sealed memories were all within the Su Family. That place was the source of everything and needed to be unraveled. So regardless of my feelings, I had to integrate into it.
The meal felt tasteless to me, while Su Ziqian seemed to enjoy it thoroughly. He set down his chopsticks, wiped his mouth, and rinsed with water. "From now on, I will be your senior brother. Let's work well together, little junior sister. Of course, I won’t interfere with your private life; just know that not everyone in the Su Family is as friendly as I am!"
What he meant was that the members of the Su Family were not ordinary people and would not overlook the dark aura surrounding me. If I wanted to survive, it was best to keep my distance.
"I've already faced so many dangerous challenges; I won't fail here."
My refusal surprised Su Ziqian momentarily before he burst into laughter. "Perhaps Jun Jun is right; saving you isn't a mistake for the Su Family; otherwise, she wouldn't have paid with her life."
"What do you mean?"
"With the Blood of the Underworld King, one is bound to either go mad or die from poisoning, yet you remain unharmed. Aside from the spiritual power suppression from those few, the more important factor is Jun Jun."
Even Jun Chong showed a look of confusion this time. "What did Jun Jun do?"
"Jun Jun was injured before and used half of Anxin's Demon Fetus Power to prevent the Underworld King's change of heart. As long as Anxin drank the Underworld King's heart blood while her Demon Fetus Power was weak, combined with the suppression from the three of you, it could bring the Demon Fetus Power down to its lowest point. However, that day, the Underworld King successfully triggered a surge of spiritual power within Anxin. Knowing this would happen, Jun Jun infused her own spiritual power along with the absorbed Demon Fetus Power into Anxin's body to merge with that drop of blood."
Su Ziqian spoke lightly, though he wasn't in the Underworld at that time; he was clearly aware of everything. The man's strength was far beyond what it appeared.
"In the Vast World, there exists something called a Verbal Contract, which binds words in exchange for a similar cost. Jun Jun burned her life force and exhausted her spiritual power within you, but not everyone can achieve this; only those who are Demon Fetuses can be saved."
Su Ziqian crossed his fingers on the table and paused here, observing my expression closely. He smiled slightly, as if discussing something trivial.
"The origin of this method comes from the ancestors of the Su Family, specifically the only surviving Lord of the Ghost Fetus. Jun Jun did this to make amends for Su Yi's wrongs against you. Because your death back then was entirely caused by Su Yi."
I was taken aback, and Jun Chong clearly didn't know this either; for the first time, surprise appeared on his otherwise expressionless face.
"So Anxin, you are destined to be unable to escape the Su Family."
His words felt like an ominous prophecy, binding everyone's fate tightly like a Verbal Contract.
