I saw Jun Rui stumble, looking incredulously at Su Yi. "Ayi, what are you saying?"
Su Yi spoke each word clearly, "I said I don't need your pity; this child is not yours!"
Jun Rui chuckled lightly, propping himself up on the armrest to steady his body. Various indescribable emotions flickered in his eyes as he looked at Su Yi. Finally, he burst into laughter, a sound that was neither entirely joyful nor sorrowful. "Ayi, I thought one day you would be moved by me and change your mind. That's why I tolerated your reckless behavior; I believed that as long as Anxin existed, you would eventually let go. That day, even though I knew it was all an act, I still invested my true feelings, hoping to have you at least for a moment. I never expected you to be so heartless. You know better than I who this child belongs to."
Su Yi's face flushed with a mix of red and white as she struggled to bear his words before finally running out. Jun Rui sat back in his chair with a light laugh, like a discarded doll.
It was then that I realized everything had been deliberately orchestrated by Su Yi.
Su Xun appeared beside me in a flash, anger radiating from him as he pressed a short, sharp blade against my neck. The coldness of the blade sent chills down my spine. "Don't move. If you do, I'll kill her."
"Su Xun, don't make me kill you before I deal with the Demon King!"
"Jun Chong, you should know she belongs to me. Yet you fused her soul with spiritual power; if that's the case, then I have no choice but to kill her and use her as one of the Ritual offerings to awaken my master."
Jun Chong narrowed his eyes, a cold glint flashing within them as the dark aura surrounding Su Xun thickened.
"Su Xun, for the sake of reviving your master, you've strayed from the right path and fallen into the Demon Realm, controlled by evil thoughts. Even if your master truly comes back to life, he will die from your actions!"
"This is my family matter; it's none of your business." Su Xun glared fiercely at Jun Chong. "If there is no wedding between you and Ayi in three days, I'll kill her first!"
With that, Su Xun vanished with me in an instant. I saw Jun Chong chasing after us but was still a step too late.
Looking at the familiar iron cage, I felt as if I had always been under threat; everyone used me to threaten Jun Chong because they all knew I was his weakness.
However, a powerful man does not need weaknesses. I didn't want my own fragility to bring him endless failures. So sometimes, even if it hurt, choices had to be made.
It was only after Su Xun took me away that I began to understand.
Locked in a cage with nothing around me, except for the light from the small patch of sky above, everything else was pitch black.
Moreover, during this confinement, I realized that even without touching the iron bars, I felt something within me being drawn out.
"This is the altar. The iron bars surrounding you are absorbing your power for transfer. Anxin, just stay put. As long as my master wakes up, perhaps I will spare your life. Just be a good shadow."
With that, Su Xun left, and I shrank back, hugging myself.
The Qilin Hairpin in my palm hummed softly. Jun Chong had said it would protect me but hadn’t told me how to wield it. Since being locked up here, it had been restlessly humming, and I knew this place was dangerous, yet I couldn’t escape.
A few days later, the door was opened. Su Yi approached me in a blood-red wedding gown adorned with a phoenix crown. Even with her prominent belly, her beauty remained undiminished.
She looked at me coldly and smiled, "Today is the wedding between Jun Chong and me. Just thinking about it excites me! Anxin, do you want to see how the man you deeply love marries me? Even if he is reluctant, he must marry me at this moment."
"Why?"
I was puzzled; Jun Chong was not someone who would bow to opposing forces.
"Do you think it's because of you? Unfortunately, it's not!" Su Yi seemed in high spirits. "It's because the Underworld's Vengeful Spirit broke free from its seal, causing chaos within the Netherworld. Half of it has been lost, and even Rong Zhi has been injured!"
"How could that be?" I couldn't believe it. Staring at Su Yi's radiant face, I said, "Did you do something?"
"Anxin, as a shadow, you shouldn't be so clever. But it's fine to tell you now; after all, you'll never see Jun Chong again in this lifetime!"
Su Yi raised her right hand and loosened her fingers. With her thumb and index finger pinching two red strings, the other ends were tied to two identical bells.
"This is the Soul Bell and the Soul-Calling Bell. I used the Soul Bell to control the Vengeful Spirits of the Underworld, inciting them to rebel. Then I told Jun Chong that only the Soul-Calling Bell could seal their movements. Otherwise, the Underworld would perish before the Demon Realm could invade. For this, my master even deliberately injured Rong Zhi, and of course, I also used you, which is why Jun Chong compromised."
"How can you be so despicable! How can a dignified Onmyoji from the Su Family resort to such unscrupulous means and collude with the Demon Realm!"
"Shut up! We are not colluding with the Demon Realm! If it weren't for you, none of this would have happened. It's all because of your existence that I had to do this! Anxin, before blaming others, think about whether you have any responsibility yourself!"
"Even if it's my fault, it's still better than what you are doing! Su Xun's actions are no different from those of a demon king; he wants to seize the throne of the Underworld to resurrect his master! Let me tell you, it won't succeed! All evil will be vanquished by justice! Even if I don't die, Jun Chong will never marry you!"
"Then go die!" Su Yi glared at me fiercely, full of mockery. "You're just as annoying as Jun Rui; no one can like you!"
Mentioning Jun Rui made Su Yi look disdainful, and I felt even sadder for Jun Rui. "He loves you so much; how can you say that about him?"
"Just because he loves me does that mean I have to respond? Well then, I love Jun Chong; how has he treated me? Let me tell you, everyone in the world knows I'm carrying Jun Chong's child. Just because of this child's existence, he can't lay a hand on me!"
At that moment, Su Yi didn't know that those who became pregnant with a Demon Fetus would ultimately be backfired by it. But at that time, neither I nor anyone else knew that Jun Chong was already aware of all this. The best way to deal with Su Yi was to let her be consumed by the Demon Fetus and meet her own demise.
That's why he initially said nothing and did nothing.
But it was also this spark that completely ignited the hatred between them.
Su Yi looked coldly at the Qilin Hairpin in my hand, wanting to snatch it away but was repelled by the power emanating from it. I held the Qilin Hairpin close to my chest. "This is a gift from Jun Chong; you can't have it."
"He actually used the rare Golden Qilin to make you a hairpin? Hahaha..." Su Yi laughed maniacally. "You must be so important to him. Well then, Anxin, I curse you. Using the power of the Soul-Calling Bell as a medium, I curse that the Qilin Hairpin will eventually break, and on that day, Jun Chong will cast you aside like garbage."
As her venomous curse echoed in the air, a bell in her hand began to emit a beautiful and dazzling light. That light danced toward my Qilin Hairpin; no matter how much I tried to shake it off, it clung to the Qilin Hairpin and resonated with the Soul-Calling Bell before disappearing without a trace, leaving a layer of frost covering the surface of the Soul-Calling Bell.
"Su Yi, let me tell you, even if the Qilin Hairpin breaks, Jun Chong will absolutely never abandon me!"
At that moment, I was merely filled with resentment and anger, which compelled me to speak out loud. To my surprise, as those words escaped my lips, a warm current surged within me, enveloping my body, only to dissipate completely when the last word fell.
"Hmph, just an ant." Su Yi waved her hand, and a large image appeared before me, depicting the Underworld Palace. It was not ostentatiously decorated, but it was clear that it had been arranged for a wedding.
Jun Chong stood on the steps in a red robe, hands clasped behind his back.
Su Yi gazed at him dreamily. "I want to go to my husband’s side, Anxin. You just watch closely how your man marries me."
"No—"
I let out a sharp cry, but Su Yi turned away and left, her vibrant red attire becoming the most striking presence in that moment.
Before long, I saw Su Yi on the screen, moving forward amidst a throng of admirers towards the man standing on the steps, overlooking all.
In that instant, the way she looked at him was unprecedentedly beautiful; it was the happiness that only a bride could possess.
The man stood still, his black hair tied back, his robes billowing in the wind. The aura of dominance he exuded was innate and unmatched.
Slowly, I saw him extend his hand toward Su Yi. At that moment, her joy intensified as she rushed toward her happiness.
I collapsed to the ground completely because I witnessed Jun Chong smile at her, his eyes filled with a tenderness meant only for me.
My heart ached painfully; I didn’t want to look, yet my eyes forced me to see. There was no grand spectacle, yet it was a scene that stirred jealousy within me.
The voice of the Ritual Officer echoed as my heart raced wildly. A thousand thoughts surged within me wishing they would not marry; even if it were unavoidable, I didn’t want them to be together.
Perhaps heaven took pity on me and heard my inner cries. Just as the ceremony began, a swarm of dark shadows moved toward the Underworld Palace. A long spear lunged toward the newlyweds, shattering the solemnity of the occasion completely.
My heart relaxed as I realized that when the spear flew, Jun Chong did not protect Su Yi.
"Jun Chong, I thought you were sincere, but in the end, you married a woman who isn't even the mother of your child. How pathetic!"
The voice of the newcomer was so familiar that I blinked and saw Qi Zhi in a black battle robe. He raised his hand, and the Dragon Spear flew back into his grasp, pointing angrily at Su Yi.
"Su Yi, do you not understand? You are human, he is a ghost, and your child is a Demon Fetus. Since ancient times, those who conceive a Demon Fetus cannot survive unless they obtain the heart's blood of the Underworld King. Because of your own folly, your child will eventually turn against you. I see that it won't be long before the child is born!"
"What nonsense are you talking about?"
"Nonsense?" Qi Zhi laughed loudly. "Did Jun Rui not tell you? Or perhaps he truly doesn't know, but this is your fate."
Jun Rui suddenly froze, surprise flashing in his eyes as if he genuinely did not know about this matter. He then looked at the calm Jun Chong, a complex anger evident in his gaze.
Qi Zhi ignored the pale and disbelieving Su Yi and faced Jun Chong. The Dragon Spear struck the ground, shaking the entire hall.
"Jun Chong, years ago you killed my wife and then took my wife Seven Souls for your own selfish desires. Last time, to save Anxin, you killed my defenseless son when he was still so young and posed no threat to you. Why did you have to kill him? Today, I will settle this score with you."
I was shaken; that child had actually been killed by Jun Chong? He had been so adorable.
No wonder he had once told me that there was an irreconcilable enmity between him and Jun Chong; it was all for revenge for his wife and child.
At that moment, I felt that Jun Chong had truly gone too far.
