A golden light enveloped me, and I felt the warmth of the winter sun. Everything around began to spread towards rebirth under the illumination of the Soul Stone. The Demon let out piercing screams, and even the Demon King over there started to panic. The body that occupied Qizhi was unexpectedly rebounded by Qizhi himself. Yet he was unwilling to accept this; his soul power surged towards me, but as it touched the brilliance of the Soul Stone, it was repelled once more, only to be slain by the arriving Qizhi, vanishing into nothingness.
Watching all this unfold, I couldn't help but feel a sense of amusement.
Such a powerful Demon King, whom Jun Chong had struggled so hard to defeat, was subdued merely through my single contribution. How ironic it was for their efforts!
I didn't know what kind of artifact the Soul Stone was, but I understood that some powers coexisting with heaven were incredibly strong; as long as one could pay the price, they would come true.
“Mom!”
Junxin's call jolted me; she had indeed come.
Junxin pounded on Hikaki fiercely, crying uncontrollably. “Hikaki, you’re a bad guy! Why did you hurt Mom? Why did you make me lose her? I hate you! I hate you! Bring my mom back!”
Hikaki stood still, allowing Junxin to hit him without retaliating.
“I’m sorry, Heart Eyes. This is your mother’s decision; no one can be blamed.”
I saw Mu Yan and Molin walking towards us. A smile tugged at my lips but turned into tears instead.
“Anxin, why are you so foolish? Why don’t you trust me? Why didn’t you wait for me?”
“Because I know your decision is the same as mine.” As I noticed Hellfire starting to blaze around us, I tried to raise my hand to wipe away my tears but found my hand becoming transparent; my palm had vanished and was gradually fading upwards. I couldn’t even lift my hand.
That feeling was eerily similar to when I witnessed my past self dying in his arms.
“Jun Chong, I’m sorry. I am dying in front of you for the second time. I know it’s cruel, but I have to do this. I lived for you and will die for you. As long as you are alive, that is enough fulfillment for me. Even if my body dissipates, as long as there remains a trace of memory in this world, I will remember that my name is Anxin and that I am Jun Chong’s wife.”
"How can you expect me to live like this? Anxin, one cannot be so selfish."
Jun Chong clenched his fists, the flames of the Vermilion Bird blazing brighter behind him, as if they were about to spiral out of control at any moment.
"I know, even if I beg you to let me be completely selfish just this once, to live well with Heart Eyes. And then forget me."
As his form gradually faded, I saw Jun Chong abandon everything and run towards me, while Junxin pushed Hikaki aside to come closer.
Watching them, a father and daughter, I felt for the first time what true regret was. Perhaps if I had the chance again, I would still regret it, but I would do it all the same.
If only I could be a bit stronger, then such a decision wouldn't have to be made.
But I was too weak. Even though I was unwilling and resentful, when faced with the cruelty of reality, I could only do what was within my power.
Tears blurred my vision. I wanted to wipe them away to see them clearly one last time, but that became the hardest wish to fulfill because I had lost my arms.
"Jun Chong, I love you. Heart Eyes, I love you. But I'm sorry, goodbye."
My body fell backward. I should have lost all feeling, yet somehow I ended up in that cold, familiar embrace. I froze in surprise and realized my hands had returned. What was happening?
"Your wish has been received."
When the voice of the Soul Stone echoed, my heart trembled violently. Looking up, I saw Qi Yi standing beside the Soul Stone.
His form also began to fade.
"Qi Yi, what have you done?"
My voice trembled as I spoke, but Qi Zhi smiled at me, his black figure becoming transparent.
"Anxin, I wish upon the Soul Stone to return your life. May you be together with Jun Chong for all eternity, never to part, forever united in heart." He smiled at me, his radiant grin reminiscent of our first encounter.
"Anxin, the one thing I cannot let go of is my longing. I hope you can treat him as your own child and tell him that his Father is sorry but will always love him. I hope he lives well—not seeking a grand destiny, just a peaceful life, and then I will be at ease."
"Qi Zhi, why are you being so foolish? Is it worth giving up your life for me?"
"But you did the same for Jun Chong; isn't that worth it?"
"That's because I love him."
"But I love you just the same." Qi Zhi countered my words repeatedly, leaving me speechless. "Anxin, I know that no matter what I do in this life, you will never love me. But I also know that from now on, I will never leave your heart. Perhaps this is my final selfishness! Anxin, this is where it ends; endless love will always accompany you both."
"Qi Zhi, I'll stay with you."
From behind him emerged a graceful figure, her soft words causing Qi Zhi to shudder in disbelief as he turned to see the face he had longed for.
I didn't know what Xiao An looked like; I only recognized that the person was Xiao An's Three Souls because of the tremors brought by the Seven Souls.
When I parted ways with Hikaki, I had begged him to go to the Dark Vortex to find Xiao An's Three Souls. Even if there was just a tiny glimmer of hope, I wanted Qi Zhi to see Xiao An—not only to resolve the hatred between him and Jun Chong but also to ease his longing for Xiao An.
Now that Xiao An had appeared, it wasn't just a beautiful face adorned with a captivating smile; it was a heartfelt strength that could warm one's soul.
"Xiao An, have you come to accompany me?"
Qi Zhi reached for the hand resting on his waist and smiled gently.
Xiao An nodded, "To see you again is my wish. Qi Zhi, since we are to die, may I accompany you? Even if we disappear, I want to hold you like this, so I can find peace."
"Alright." He smiled, revealing a grin as he looked at our family, "In this world, love should not be forsaken. I wish you both a lifetime of happiness together."
Whose smile was that?
The golden light shone brightly, like a shooting star falling from the sky, and the figures of Qi Zhi and Xiao An completely vanished amidst my cries.
Everything had come to an end.
From then on, things began to develop in a positive direction. The Guardian of the Underworld and the Golden-Clad Reaper led the Death God Corps to escort the innocent away. Hellfire only burned down the Forbidden Tower, while the Underworld continued to exist.
In the end, Jun Chong used his remaining spiritual energy to merge with the power of the Golden-Clad Reaper, sealing the Underworld completely. Only the Golden-Clad Reaper remained to guard it; as long as the Golden-Clad Reaper did not perish, there would never be a day when the Underworld could be opened.
This place would ultimately turn to dust.
When I returned to the Fragrant Blossom Pavilion, I was surprised to see Rong Zhi lying at the entrance. My heart skipped a beat. "What happened? Shizui—"
"I don't know either, but perhaps it has something to do with your wish. All living beings return to the earth."
"Return to the earth?" I murmured, "Then what about Xiao You?"
No one answered my question.
Everyone was exhausted and needed rest. Molin and Chitaki returned to the human realm; there were still matters to wrap up there. I could only hope that Su Ziqian would heed Lin You's final wish and protect the human realm well, guiding the Su Family away from making mistakes.
Junxin eventually learned that Hikaki's actions were not forced by me but by Qi Zhi. If Qi Zhi truly cared for me and regarded me as the most important existence in his heart, he would sacrifice his own life like a Soul Stone to make a wish.
But Junxin was still very angry and ignored him, sticking close to me instead. However, we couldn't get too close, so we could only gaze at each other from a distance, which added a bit of fun to the situation.
For instance, Nian kept clinging to me, and Junxin's jealousy flared up. Unable to deal with Nian, she could only take it out on Hikaki.
Another example was when Junxin wanted to eat the desserts I made, but she couldn't get any. In the end, Nian clumsily made a dessert just like mine and handed it to her. Junxin looked disdainful but said that since it was the same as what her mother made, she would let bygones be bygones and eat it.
Seeing the two kids getting along so well made me very happy.
"Mu Yan, where did Jun Chong go?"
"Underworld Palace." Mu Yan was packing up our things when Rong Zhi came over and said, "Once he returns, we will head back to the human realm."
I knew that Jun Chong went to find Jun Rui for a reason. Although Jun Rui didn't participate in this battle, his obsession remained unyielding. The only one who could save him was Jun Chong.
But I had no idea what exactly Jun Chong said to him. By the time we returned to the human realm, Jun Rui still hadn't appeared.
In the blink of an eye, a year had passed, and soon it would be my 25th birthday. My mother received a gift from my grandfather for me. When I opened it, there was only one thing inside.
It was a Snow Lotus.
"This is the Su Family's Six Sacred Snow Lotus Seal?"
I asked in confusion, but Jun Chong nodded. "The Su Family has two Snow Lotuses, one yin and one yang. If you take this one, you must become the head of the Su Family."
"But who gave this to me back then?"
"It must have been Lin You or perhaps Su Xun or Su Yi. They want you to never leave the Su Family for your entire life." Jun Chong wrapped his arms around me and rested his chin on my shoulder. "Anxin, will you go?"
"Tomorrow, I'll send the items to Su Ziqian. Although he received Lin You's decree, without this, someone from the Su Family will definitely oppose it. So even if it's just a personal favor, it will ensure he can no longer cling to me."
"Alright." Jun Chong picked up a strand of my hair and kissed it lightly. "You are mine; the Su Family can stay out of this."
"Mm."
I kissed his lips, deepening the kiss with joy. For me, the fact that Jun Chong had ultimately lost his physical form but was still alive, despite being weak from excessive energy consumption, was the best thing.
The next day, I sent the Snow Lotus to Su Ziqian and also asked Junxin to return another one to the Su Family. Su Ziqian called to inquire about it, and I simply said, "I have a master now; it's Chitaki."
Su Ziqian smiled and said nothing more. "Anxin, Xiao You has returned. But she remembers nothing. I hope this allows her to live a good life."
As I hung up the phone, I saw snowflakes swirling outside the window. A woman in a white cotton coat stood under a tree, raising her hand to catch the falling snowflakes, letting them melt in her palm while displaying the innocent smile I first saw on her.
"Xiao You, rebirth represents beauty; I wish you happiness. My best friend."
Everything was developing beautifully. Jun Jun had gone far away, and a bird transformed from Lianchi followed him. I believed miracles would happen for them too; they would surely find happiness. Jun Jun would never forget Lianchi.
Molin practiced alone; it was said that Qianqian always followed him. I hoped that even if they didn't spark romantic feelings, they could still accompany each other like true friends.
I studied Taoist magic with Chitaki while Jun Chong and Rong Zhi remained in the human realm, never stepping into the underworld again. Jun Rui also did not appear.
Until one day, I opened my eyes and was startled to see Jun Rui standing at my bedside.
"What are you doing here?"
"Anxin, you were right. Even if everything developed according to my plan, I wouldn't feel happy in the end. Being alone is truly lonely, so I regret it. My obsession ran deep but led me down the wrong path. Your obsession isn't any less than mine, yet you can give so openly and honestly; I admire you for that. So today, I'm here to bring you some benefits."
He gently patted my head and said, "I return Heart Eyes to you, wishing your family happiness. You must stay with him until the end; he carries too much. This is all I can do."
Jun Rui came and went without a trace. After he spoke, he left, and I was still in a daze when the door swung open from the outside. A small figure rushed into my embrace, crying out.
"Mommy, I can finally hold you tight! Mommy, do you know? I have Hikaki who cares for me; everything is no worse than anyone else's, even the best. But there's one thing I lack—I don't have a mother's embrace. But Uncle Jun Rui told me that in the future, I can freely act spoiled in your arms just like Nian. Mommy, I'm so happy."
"Heart Eyes, I'm happy too."
Looking at Jun Chong who walked in, I smiled from the heart. Even though the journey was tough, at least the ending was the most beautiful.
The wind suddenly rose, and willow catkins flew like snow. As I raised my hand, it felt like another fleeting moment of youth.
The story continues beyond this point, but my tale ends here. The life ahead belongs to the children; their existence fills me with contentment and allows me to truly experience joy.
As night fell, Dream, I felt a cold hand wandering over me. I opened my eyes to find myself lying in a coffin, the owner of the hand smiling charmingly as he tenderly cupped my face.
"Anxin, this is our ending, but also the beginning we first dreamed of. Will you marry me?"
I smiled and punched him in the face. The coffin vanished, and we found ourselves lying on a bed. "Is this a proposal or a threat?"
Jun Chong smirked, his eyes playful and alluring. "It's our wedding night!"
The curtain falls.
