I walked into the room, wanting to lie down and take a nap. As I flipped open a cup, a business card suddenly appeared under the pillow.
It was a man's card, and as soon as I looked at it, I realized it was Li Xiang, Li Tong's brother. The phone number on the card started with 139, exactly the same as the one I had checked at the supermarket.
Could he be my wife's lover? No way; how could siblings have such a relationship? It must be a mistake.
Even so, thinking about her brother Li Xiang gave me a headache. He was notorious outside of school for being a troublemaker—fighting, gambling, you name it. Many times, I had to go to the police station to bail him out.
No matter how troublesome he was, Li Tong always obeyed her brother without question.
"This is something I bought for my brother; you can't have any."
"My brother says he doesn't like others using his things."
"Lin Weixuan, the passenger seat is my brother's."
Whenever I felt annoyed, she would always use the same excuses. She often told me, "I only have one brother; I will never give him up. If you want to accept me, you must accept my brother."
So after we got married, she brought her brother to live in the city where we settled down. Every month, she gave him three thousand yuan for living expenses.
I accepted all of this; being able to marry the woman of my dreams was already the greatest blessing from heaven. Based on the idea that being responsible for her meant being responsible for her family, I didn’t oppose it.
I handed over my bank card; she could spend it however she wanted. With love flourishing, I poured all my energy into my career. In just three short years, I rose from a grassroots employee to become a Vice President in an investment bank.
The hardships along the way were unimaginable, but all of it was for Li Tong.
One day, I hoped to be worthy of her. She was the only goddess in my heart. But this woman, taking advantage of my affection for her, kept pushing her luck, treating me like an ATM.
My phone buzzed with a message. That message made me realize that my five-year marriage was nothing but a joke.
"Brother Xuan, take a look at this. Is this your sister-in-law?"
On May 20th, my childhood friend Lei Zi sent me a photo. In the picture, Li Tong was smiling at the camera while dining with a man in a Western restaurant. Her smile was charming. Unfortunately, only the man's back was captured.
The fire in my heart had long been stoked beyond control. I had made reservations at a Michelin restaurant to celebrate together, but she chose to spend the holiday with another man.
I pushed open the revolving door of the restaurant and saw Li Tong, dressed elegantly, laughing and chatting with the man. As I approached, I realized that man was Li Xiang.
With his buzz cut and casually worn white T-shirt paired with a frayed denim jacket, he seemed out of place. On his wrist gleamed a Rolex watch worth 122,000 yuan, an extravagant accessory that clashed with his demeanor.
If there were vibrant roses on the table and a violinist playing beautiful melodies, it would be hard to imagine they were just friends.
"Tong Tong, I love you!"
Thinking of Li Xiang's message from that night made my heart feel like it was being tightly squeezed by someone’s grip.
"Wife! What are you all doing?"
In response to my question, Li Tong's gaze shifted away.
"My dear brother-in-law, it's been a while since we last met."
Li Xiang lounged back with his legs crossed, casually lighting a cigarette, a half-smile playing on his lips. It was as if everything happening around him was of no concern.
"Today, you must give me an explanation!"
I stepped forward and yanked the tablecloth, flipping the table upside down.
The Violinist froze in shock.
The other patrons in the restaurant turned to look at us.
