Coming out of the medical kiosk, Zhang Rui felt a bit heavy-hearted. His experience at the medical kiosk just now had left him with more doubts about his identity and abilities. Despite receiving some insights from Dr. Nan and the bespectacled elder, more questions continued to linger in his mind. As he gradually made his way back to the first floor of the Taoist temple, the corridor was dimly lit, and there was a mysterious and quiet atmosphere in the air. His footsteps echoed in the spacious corridor, sounding particularly clear.
Entering the reception area, Zhang Rui's gaze fell on the twins in front of him. Their eyes were calm and professional, yet they also exuded a sense of warmth, which made Zhang Rui feel a bit reassured. He approached them and humbly asked, "Excuse me, I'm the newcomer Zhang Rui. Could you please tell me how to find the temporary residence?"
The male twin spoke first, his voice calm and organized: "Welcome to Shadow League, Zhang Rui. We have a residence prepared specifically for new members, where you can rest temporarily until you officially begin your mission."
The female twin immediately followed, her voice gentle and warm: "We will arrange a comfortable room for you, equipped with basic living facilities. It may not be luxurious, but it will be enough for you to rest well."
Zhang Rui nodded and thanked, "Great, thank you. Can I go there now?"
The male twins took out a room key from the counter and handed it to Zhang Rui, "Of course, this is your room key. The room is on the west side of the Taoist temple, on the second floor. If you need anything, you can come here for help at any time."
Zhang Rui took the key and nodded at them in gratitude. The twin siblings gave him a friendly smile, as if to tell him that he was not alone here.
Full of hope and curiosity, Zhang Rui headed towards his new room. He knew that this night would be his first night in the Shadow Realm, and starting from tomorrow, he would embark on a whole new journey.
Zhang Rui Holding the key, passing through the back of the first-floor lobby, and arriving at a row of neatly arranged flat buildings. The exterior of these flat buildings is constructed of wood, appearing simple and with an ancient atmosphere. Each one looks like a section of a train car, quietly connected together. Against the backdrop of nightfall, the dormitory area appears particularly quiet, with only a few windows emitting warm light, indicating signs of life inside.
When Zhang Rui pushes open the dormitory door, a spacious lounge comes into view. The decoration here is simple but warm, with rows of wooden chairs and several small round tables evenly distributed in the room. On one side of the lounge is a small counter, and on the wall behind it are various notices and bulletins.
In a corner of the lounge, an orc is sitting on a chair, his sturdy figure and rough skin reflecting a faint sheen under the light. With his eyes closed and a hint of a smile at the corner of his mouth, he seems immersed in his own world, appearing out of place with the surrounding environment.
Behind the counter, a middle-aged woman is focused on flipping through a thick register. Her face carries a serious, even unfriendly expression. When Zhang Rui enters the dormitory, she doesn't even look up, displaying indifference to the new guest.
Zhang Rui stood in front of the counter, awkwardly clearing his throat, but the woman remained focused on her work, seemingly disinterested in everything around her. Zhang Rui looked around, feeling out of place. He knew that the lifestyle here was completely different from what he had experienced before, and he needed time to adapt to this new and diverse environment.
Speaking softly, Zhang Rui tried to engage the middle-aged woman at the counter, "Um...excuse me." His voice revealed a hint of nervousness.
The middle-aged woman raised her head, her eyes carrying a hint of helplessness, seeming somewhat displeased by the person who disturbed her. In a low voice, she asked, "What is it?"
Zhang Rui had just wanted to continue speaking, but he didn't have the chance to finish his question. The middle-aged woman seemed uninterested in listening further, sighed, and turned to walk towards a room behind the counter. Her movements seemed somewhat stiff, as if she was searching for something, but also seemed unwilling to help.
Zhang Rui stood in place, feeling a bit awkward. He had thought he could get some help or guidance from the woman, but now it seemed he would have to figure out this new environment on his own. His eyes scanned the room, trying to find the next direction or any clues that could help him understand this place.
Standing in front of the counter, Zhang Rui felt awkward and unsure. Just as he was about to speak up to ask again, a middle-aged woman walked out of the room with a basket of items in her hand. Zhang Rui noticed the items in her hand, which included sheets, blankets, pillows, and some other seemingly essential items, all pressed down at the bottom and covered with a layer of fine dust, as if they hadn't been touched in a long time.
The middle-aged woman placed the basket on the counter, seeming somewhat impatient with the job. Her movements were hasty, hardly giving Zhang Rui a glance, as if her mind was completely elsewhere.
Zhang Rui hesitated and cautiously touched the items in the basket. He felt the texture of these items, although they seemed a bit old, they should still be usable. He felt somewhat grateful to the woman, despite her cold demeanor, for at least providing him with the basic necessities of life.
"These are yours now," the middle-aged woman suddenly spoke, her voice tinged with weariness. Then she turned and left the counter, walking back to her own room.
Zhang Rui stood there, holding these everyday items, pondering his next steps. He knew that from this moment on, his life in the Shadow League had officially begun.
