Who would have thought that beyond a suburb, there existed such a large fortress? 0

The thick, rough logs with their mottled bark formed a high and sturdy wall that stretched four to five hundred meters from left to right, encompassing a vast area of open land along the riverbank. Because Song Jiu and his companion were hidden in a lower terrain, they could not catch a glimpse of the magnificent scenery beyond the wall. They could only speculate about the extravagant interior from the towering corner towers, secretly cursing how extravagant it must be inside. 0

Song Jiu's previous hesitation had vanished, and his narrowed eyes sparkled with aggressive light. 0

" Brother Jiu, calm down," Jiao Ziqian said, swallowing hard. "I know you want to go in; I want to too, but we can't just rush in." 0

"Don't be ridiculous! How will we know if we don't try?" Song Jiu's eyes were bloodshot, barely able to contain his excitement; his blood felt like it was boiling. 0

"We should—" 0

"Look, it's backed by a flowing water source. Whether for daily use or irrigation, it's more than enough! This Log Wall is at least three or four meters high. Don't even mention Zombies; can you climb up there? Damn it, there are towers on all sides for lookout and warning. We won't even need to set up anything outside. Did you see that?" An excited Song Jiu pulled Jiao Ziqian in another direction, pointing at the eastern side of the wall. "Look at those deer fences, barbed wire—everything is absolutely professional!" 0

Jiao Ziqian patiently listened to him finish before carefully pouring cold water on his enthusiasm. " Brother Jiu, you said it yourself—it's professional. They are so well-prepared; what about us?" 0

Song Jiu instantly calmed down, the fervor on his face disappearing. 0

Jiao Ziqian sighed in relief, thinking that Brother Jiu had finally regained his sanity. Just as he was about to say more, he caught sight of the fierce fire burning in Song Jiu's eyes. It seemed he hadn't given up; rather, he had focused and concentrated his emotions. 0

"Ziqian, don't think I'm talking nonsense," Song Jiu said, closing his eyes and taking a few deep breaths before opening them again, his gaze returning to its usual calmness. "I know that anyone capable of building such a fortress here is definitely not an ordinary person. Just look at the surrounding forest; it wasn't cleared by human effort alone. Plus, considering their armed forces and resource reserves, I suspect the people here are not Ordinary Survivors." 0

"Of course not; nothing here is ordinary," Jiao Ziqian replied matter-of-factly, unsure why Song Jiu was bringing this up. 0

"Don't forget what those people on the railway said—this place isn't just for trading resources; they also spread word that if anyone can't survive out there, they can come here for refuge." Song Jiu licked his cracked lips and sneered. "What good does gathering Survivors do? It's just about increasing productivity—more laborers to work. Over time, they'll form their own system." 0

"And then?" Jiao Ziqian lacked confidence in his understanding and felt frustrated that Luo Yu and Dream Fan were not around; he could only grit his teeth and continue listening. 0

"You can't just charge in head-on and take over; spreading influence is the way to go." 0

"What do you mean?" 0

Song Jiu punched him with frustration and said, "Haven't you heard that it's hard to guard against internal enemies when infiltrating the enemy's territory?" 0

" Brother Jiu," Jiao Ziqian hesitated for a moment but couldn't help but pick up a basin of cold water again. "It's not that I don't trust you, but we haven't even touched the door yet, and you're already thinking about taking over their stronghold. Isn't that a bit too ambitious?" 0

"I'm done talking to you." Song Jiu rolled his eyes and pulled Jiao Ziqian down the slope. "Let's go back." 0

"What? We're not going to scout?" Jiao Ziqian was completely dumbfounded. After struggling for an hour to get here, they were just going to turn back without doing anything. 0

"The situation has changed. We need to go back and plan properly." Song Jiu calmed himself down, finally revealing a long-lost smile. "I've changed my mind; this place is strange, but it's worth a shot." 0

"What about the Zombie?" 0

Song Jiu looked at him with amusement and said, "What about the Zombie? It's better not to cause trouble while leaning against a big tree. If it dares to come again, then it won't need to leave." 0

Jiao Ziqian widened his eyes and muttered, "Who was it that ran away faster than a rabbit last night?" 0

Caught off guard, Song Jiu's face flushed red. He shot Jiao Ziqian a glare and turned to leave. 0

"Hey, hey, hey, Brother Jiu, what about him?" Jiao Ziqian hurriedly grabbed his sleeve and pointed at the Railway Guerrillas lying motionless on the other side. 0

"Check if he's dead. If he is, then forget about it; if not, finish him off." 0

The thick fog gradually lifted, and the warm morning light spread its gentle warmth across the land. Sunlight filtered through the dense canopy of trees, scattering fragments of golden light on the ground. 0

Xin Mengfan lay comfortably in the bus that no one would marry her in. She mischievously blinked and retrieved her ring, carefully tucking it back into her bodice. 0

"No, I wanted to ask how old you are this year." Luo Yu shrugged and smiled awkwardly. "You always seem like a child." 0

"After Valentine's Day, I turned 24; I've reached the legal age." Xin Mengfan didn't mind Luo Yu's insincere words. She playfully twirled her long hair and murmured, "Having grown this big, I've experienced quite a lot of what I should and shouldn't have gone through—just never been married." 0

"Never died before," Luo Yu tossed away her cigarette butt and joked casually. 0

Xin Mengfan blinked her big eyes at her, a hint of barely noticeable brilliance flashing in her beautiful gaze. 0

"How could you have died?" Luo Yu asked teasingly as she took off the hair tie from her wrist and tied up her messy hair. Seeing that Xin Mengfan remained silent, she pressed on with a smirk. 0

"No, of course not," Xin Mengfan replied, curling her lips into a smile as she leaned out of the car window before climbing back in. 0

" Brother Jiu, you're too impatient," Jiao Ziqian laughed uncontrollably, pounding the ground with glee, tears streaming down his face. "Do you really think what Brother Jiu said is credible? Isn't that a bit too presumptuous?" 0

"Credible, absolutely credible," Luo Yu was the first to express her agreement, cutting off Jiao Ziqian's laughter. 0

"Luo, Luo Luo, why are you going crazy along with Brother Jiu?" Jiao Ziqian initially thought Luo Yu would be the first to agree with him, but he only guessed the beginning and not the end. 0

"I'm not going crazy; I'm serious," Luo Yu said, a look of joy appearing on her face as she gazed at Song Jiu with newfound appreciation. 0

"What kind of joke is this?" Jiao Ziqian was displeased and argued, "You haven't seen it; that's not a campsite at all! It's just a damn wooden castle! The walls alone stretch for four or five hundred meters. Look over there; that wasteland is where they cut down trees to create such a large forest. Can an ordinary person handle that?" 0

"So what if it is?" Luo Yu asked curiously. 0
