During the fall, aside from his mind, which he could still control, every part of Jiang He's body had completely lost its autonomy. Although he managed to perform some protective movements as he hit the ground, the train would not stop for Jiang He's actions. 0

Jiang He had foreseen his own death, yet there was little turmoil within him. That sentiment had always been his attitude toward life: he neither actively sought to live nor deliberately sought death. Jiang He did not believe in fate; every outcome was a result of his own choices. 0

Thus, there was no fluctuation in his heart. 0

However, in the next moment, the scenario Jiang He had envisioned did not unfold. His body sank, and he rolled onto the side of the train tracks. Alongside him was another person—Feng Bin. The two of them tumbled several times by the tracks, their skin torn and bruised by the stones, gasping for breath. 0

The train finally roared past, a gust of wind whipping through their hair. 0

In an instant, Jiang He analyzed what had happened. At the critical moment, the murderer Feng Bin had turned back and tackled him, rolling them both off to the side of the tracks. Jiang He was covered in bumps and bruises, and Feng Bin was not much better off. 0

Jiang He looked at Feng Bin, who was now rolling on the ground in pain. His clothes were nearly shredded, and his arms and body bore numerous wounds. Feng Bin should not have endured such suffering; he could have simply watched Jiang He be torn to pieces by the train and escaped without consequence. 0

Yet Feng Bin did not do that; he chose to turn back and save Jiang He. 0

Jiang He could not understand why Feng Bin would act this way. By his logic, he should have been certain to die. 0

It felt as if the bloodied wounds on his body were not even his own. Although Jiang He felt immense pain, he showed no reaction. According to his assessment, given the nature of his injuries, there was a hundred percent chance they would not be fatal; thus, there was no need to tend to them immediately. 0

Moreover, this level of pain paled in comparison to the throbbing headache he had been experiencing. 0

So he approached Feng Bin and said, "You can't run away now." 0

Feng Bin looked up at Jiang He from below with a sense of helplessness. After staring at him for a long time, he finally spoke: "You're insane! Are you not afraid of dying?" 0

Jiang He nodded seriously. "No, I'm not afraid of death. However, based on what I know about you, you seem very afraid of dying; otherwise, you wouldn't have fled after committing murder. But by choosing to save me, you've lost all chance of escape. Your likely outcome now is death by execution. Why would you do this?" 0

"I am certainly afraid of dying," Feng Bin said, his voice heavy. "Who in this world isn't afraid of death?" 0

But he did not address Jiang He's confusion. 0

Feng Bin gazed at the sunset behind Jiang He, where half of the sun had already dipped below the horizon, leaving only a bright red semicircle casting its glow upon the earth. It was as if he had suddenly developed nearsightedness; the sunlight blurred everything around him, including Jiang He's figure. 0

Feng Bin gradually fell silent, unsure if he would ever see such a beautiful sun again. 0

"It's getting dark." 0

Wang Chao shifted his gaze from the distant sunset back to the present. He turned to the nearby detective and asked, "Have you clarified the situation with that car?" 0

The detective nodded. "We’ve figured it out. It was just a private driver. After Feng Bin got into the car, he left his ID, wallet, and watch with the driver and promised to pay five hundred after he delivered the items. The driver agreed at the time, especially since Feng Bin's watch is quite valuable—worth at least ten thousand." 0

After hearing this, Wang Chao slammed his hand on the table in frustration, cursing under his breath. Feng Bin seemed quite clever, deliberately choosing a car to throw off the police's trail. When they finally managed to stop that car in a safe location, they discovered that Feng Bin had long since vanished. 0

If it weren't for Jiang He's text message, Wang Chao would still be dealing with that vehicle. 0

The team had already arrived at Sifeng Bridge, but reports from ahead were not promising; after so much time had passed, Feng Bin could be anywhere by now. 0

"Hello!" Wang Chao answered the phone. "What's the situation?" 0

On the other end, someone reported, "We've reached Sifeng Bridge, but after searching the area thoroughly, we haven't found any trace of Feng Bin. We're currently reviewing surveillance footage from nearby shops to see if anyone has spotted him." 0

"Okay!" Wang Chao sighed. "Try to hurry. Once it gets dark, it'll be even harder to track where he might have gone." 0

After hanging up the phone, Wang Chao tried to call Jiang He, but all he got was the sound of a phone that had been turned off. 0

"Where on earth have Feng Bin and Jiang He gone?" Wang Chao thought to himself. 0

At that moment, Jiang He and Feng Bin were staring at each other. As a fugitive, Feng Bin naturally didn't have a phone, and Jiang He's phone had been broken when it fell off the train tracks. More importantly, neither of them had a single cent left; Feng Bin's million had been scattered into the air, while Jiang He didn't have any money at all. 0

Every taxi driver who passed by saw the two battered men and refused to stop for them. 0

Jiang He had considered writing a plea for five yuan to get back to the police station, but he didn't understand why people would carry chalk with them when they went out. Moreover, he had concluded from experience that those who begged for a few yuan to get home were usually women; the chances of two grown men getting any money were pitifully low. 0

So the two of them walked toward the police station while continuously asking bystanders to borrow a phone. 0

People around them saw these two ragged and injured men and quickly avoided them; no one was willing to lend their phones to these two. 0

By eight o'clock in the evening, they finally arrived at the nearby police station. 0

As they reached the entrance, they heard shouting and cursing coming from inside. 0

Upon entering, they discovered that the police station was currently mediating a civil dispute. A group of women were fighting over housing issues, and all the officers were busy trying to break up the brawl, completely ignoring the two men standing nearby. 0

The women were tangled up in each other, and those trying to separate them couldn't manage it. They were relentless with their hands and their mouths; for a moment, the police station was in complete chaos. 0

Jiang He managed to stop one of the women and said, "Excuse me, I’ve caught a murderer." 0

The woman shot him an incredulous look. "What do I care if you caught a tiger? Get lost; I don't have time to deal with you right now." 0

Jiang He tugged at a Female Officer's arm and said, "Excuse me, there's a murderer here." 0

The Female Officer glanced at Jiang He and slapped his arm away, impatiently replying, "Wait over there. Can't you see it's all chaos right now?" 0

"I caught a murderer," Jiang He insisted again. 0

"I don't care," the Female Officer brushed Jiang He aside and joined the ongoing fight, instantly adding to the commotion. 0

Jiang He shook his head helplessly and looked at an older police officer nearby. "I caught a murderer," he repeated. 0

The Veteran Officer, blocking a group of people with one hand, spoke in a tone befitting an elder. "This is a police station. We need to talk about evidence. It's not about who's right or wrong; it's all hearsay. Can't we sit down and discuss this? Who are you anyway? Can't you see we're busy? Can't your big issue wait a moment?" 0

Jiang He nodded and said, "I caught a murderer and I'm planning to go to the Substation." 0

"You young ones really can't see the situation, can you? It's all chaos here, and you're still rambling on. So what if you caught a murderer? Can't you wait a bit?" 0

Jiang He simply replied with an "uh-huh." 0

The Veteran Officer finally nodded in satisfaction but suddenly felt something was off. He turned around and grabbed Jiang He, asking, "What? What did you catch?" 0

Jiang He pointed to Feng Bin standing nearby and said, "It's him. I caught a murderer." 0

And just like that, Feng Bin was apprehended. 0

When Wang Chao arrived at the police station, the murderer Feng Bin was already being persuaded by a group of officers to calm down. 0

Feng Bin no longer had the heart to run away. The moment he saw Jiang He desperately trying to capture him, as the train whizzed past him, Feng Bin suddenly understood what life truly meant for a person. Like Jiang He, he had nearly been torn to pieces by the train. 0

All of a person's fears stem from the unknown. Once Feng Bin came to terms with death, he no longer feared it. 0

Feng Bin was handcuffed and locked in an interrogation room. 0

Inside the interrogation room, Feng Bin confessed to his crimes without hesitation. 0

Two months ago, at a class reunion, Feng Bin met his high school classmate He Hui Juan. Unlike his wife, He Hui Juan was young, beautiful, and warm-hearted. As Feng Bin looked into He Hui Juan's eyes, she looked back into his, and they both saw one word reflected in each other's gaze: 0

Loneliness. 0

Like dry kindling meeting a fierce flame, fueled further by alcohol, that night felt like a return to their wonderful high school days. He Hui Juan had been the class beauty back then, while Feng Bin was just an average guy. He had fantasized many times about sleeping with the class beauty, and after many years, he finally fulfilled that wish. 0

From that point on, they began seeing each other frequently. However, not long after, He Hui Juan brought up a topic that touched Feng Bin's bottom line. After repeated questioning, Feng Bin finally, after their last intimate encounter, drew a knife and stabbed He Hui Juan. 0

This was the first time—and the last. 0
