The two people were arguing more fiercely, and if it weren't for the glass window separating them, they might have already come to blows. The Fat Girl waved a Ladle in her hand, speaking animatedly like an emotional conductor. Outside, the Old Lady stood with her hands on her hips, passionately gesturing as she spat out a stream of curses.
Many Onlookers were eating their meals nearby while watching this peak confrontation unfold.
The Fat Lady stood with her ladle, glaring fiercely, resembling a general preparing for battle. The Old Lady was equally unyielding, hands on her hips and standing tall, seemingly eager to engage in a decisive showdown with the Fat Lady.
Sister Ma leaned closer to the crowd and said, "Ah, that plump woman we all call Ladle. She handles cooking and serving food—three dishes for ten yuan, generous portions, and delicious too. Everyone loves buying meals from her. The woman arguing with her is Aunt Zhao; she's a bit petty and has a sharp tongue."
The two women shouted insults at each other through the glass window, exchanging "friendly" greetings to each other's ancestors.
Director Wang couldn't bear to watch any longer and turned to Sister Ma. "This is really having a bad influence. As a leader, I can't intervene directly; you should step in."
Sister Ma pursed her lips and shook her head. "No one can stop this fight now. These two have never gotten along and have argued countless times before. It always takes a big fight for them to resolve things. Right now, they're both fired up; if I go over there to mediate, I’ll just end up getting cursed at too. I'm not going!"
Old Shao observed that the two women indeed seemed to have deep-seated grievances and were ready to throw down.
"What’s the reason behind this?" Old Shao asked with interest.
Sister Ma shrugged and whispered to the others, "The cause is quite simple. This Fat Girl is indeed a bit overweight—over two hundred pounds makes it hard for her to find a husband. The Old Lady has a sharp tongue; she often says that if the Fat Girl doesn’t lose weight, she’ll never find a man."
"This got back to the Fat Girl," Sister Ma continued mysteriously. "She’s not one to let people gossip about her behind her back. She thinks, why should she care if someone talks about her weight? Is she eating my rice or drinking my water? The Old Lady has no business coming here to get food from the Fat Girl; how can she expect good service?"
Sister Ma seemed quite familiar with the situation as she went on, "So every time the Old Lady comes for food, the Fat Girl gives her very little and shakes off all the meat. Look at others with their full boxes while she gets barely anything—no meat at all! Naturally, the Old Lady couldn’t take it anymore."
"The Fat Girl's message was clear: you're not welcome here; just leave! But the Old Lady is stubborn and insists on coming back for food from the Fat Girl. They’re both obstinate; they keep giving each other less and less. At this point, no one can stop them—it’s only a matter of time before they fight."
Then Aunt Zhao stood on a chair, holding up her bowl of rice for everyone to see. "Look at this shameless thing! Ten yuan for such a small portion! It’s outrageous! Anyone who buys food from her is a fool; we should all boycott her—ugly people just cause trouble!"
The Fat Lady was not about to back down either; she shouted back, "Hmph! Some people just have filthy mouths! I serve everyone here for free, but for certain individuals? Even if you offered me ten thousand yuan, I wouldn’t serve you! Because some people only eat shit instead of real food!"
The Old Lady was caught off guard, standing on the chair, unsure of what to do, trembling all over. Laughter erupted around her, and the atmosphere was lively. At that moment, she could no longer hold back; she jumped down from the chair and stormed over to the window. Spitting a few times into a bowl, she then threw the contents out of the window.
The food splattered everywhere, mixing with the dishes below, creating a disgusting sight. This meant that those behind her wouldn’t be getting any rice. Naturally, the dishes prepared by the Fat Lady were ruined as well.
“Alright, I’m going to make you pay for this,” the Fat Lady shouted as she prepared to charge out.
“Let’s see who ends up worse off,” the Old Lady replied, rolling up her sleeves.
Old Shao turned to Yuan Jun beside him and said, “If it turns into a fight, we should intervene.”
Yuan Jun nodded in agreement.
In the meantime, the Fat Lady had already rushed out, swinging her spoon like she intended to strike the Old Lady on the head. If that heavy iron ladle hit her, it would surely knock her out. Seeing this, Yuan Jun quickly dashed over just as the Fat Lady raised her ladle.
The Old Lady seemed taken aback by the fact that the Fat Lady was actually going to hit her; she froze for a moment, unsure of how to dodge. Just as the ladle was about to come crashing down on her head, Yuan Jun leaped over the table and grabbed hold of the Fat Lady's spoon. The Fat Lady was surprisingly strong; Yuan Jun nearly lost his grip from the force.
“Don’t stop me,” the Fat Lady insisted. “I’m going to tear her apart!”
Feeling supported, the Old Lady regained her confidence. “Oh really? Let’s see who tears apart whom!”
Director Wang saw that Yuan Jun had intervened and couldn’t just stand by. He shouted angrily, “Stop it! Is this how you behave? None of you are doing your jobs properly; all you do is bicker! Now go back and get to work!”
The Fat Lady seemed unable to bear this injustice any longer. She threw her spoon onto the ground and exclaimed, “Hmph! I haven’t done anything wrong! So what if I’m in my thirties and single? So what if I weigh over two hundred pounds? Does that give her the right to insult me? Can she treat me like I’m some kind of animal?”
Tears streamed down her face as she cried pitifully.
At that moment, people around began to murmur. Attacking someone based on their appearance was indeed a terrible behavior. After all, not everyone is a fairy; everyone has different physical traits, and no one can avoid having certain flaws in their looks.
The voices condemning the Old Lady and sympathizing with the Fat Lady gradually increased, leaving the Old Lady looking flustered.
Today, the Old Lady did not expect her incitement to have no effect; instead, even a few of her close acquaintances did not step forward to support her. If this continued, she would be besieged.
With a flushed face, the Old Lady suddenly addressed the crowd, "Do you all think she's some kind of white lotus who can do no wrong? I tell you, the meat she sells is made from human flesh!"
Upon hearing the Old Lady's words, everyone was taken aback. Even those who were eating nearby quickly stopped, staring at the meat in their bowls, unsure whether what the Old Lady said was true or not. The members of the special investigation team were equally shocked; they had come specifically for this matter.
Several female corpses had been found with their entrails removed and their bodies stuffed with sponges. From this point of view, it was indeed possible that the murderer was a worker from the Sponge Factory. However, Li Erdan had already fled, which basically matched the main characteristics of the murderer. Could it be that Li Erdan still had ties to this place?
Old Shao frowned as he looked at the Old Lady. To him, it seemed that she was simply making a desperate attempt to divert attention.
The Fat Lady pointed at the Old Lady and exclaimed, "You’re talking nonsense! I've been selling food here for over ten years; when have I ever cheated anyone? Don’t slander me!"
The boss shrugged his shoulders and after a long pause said, "Hmph! Aren't you? A few nights ago, I saw you sneaking around with some meat seller doing who knows what. I even saw you taking kickbacks; is that you?"
"Who is responsible for purchasing in the cafeteria?" Old Shao turned to Director Wang beside him.
Director Wang replied, "It's the cafeteria manager who handles purchasing. We outsourced this cafeteria to someone outside; this Fat Lady isn’t one of our factory workers. She sources her own ingredients. But I’ve eaten here before, and her food is quite good—things like Stir-Fried Pork Intestines, pig liver, and pig heart rice are all delicious."
"All entrails," Old Shao remarked as he looked at Director Wang.
Director Wang nodded and said, "That's her specialty. The prices for these offal cuts are cheaper than regular meat because wealthy people don’t like to eat entrails. She buys them at lower prices and sells them to people in the factory; they taste good enough that I want to eat more."
Jiang He looked at Shao the Elder and said, "Six bodies' worth of entrails—Li Erdan alone probably couldn’t consume them all. Did he just leave behind the intestines and sell the other entrails to the Fat Lady?"
"Can human entrails be compared to pig entrails?" Jiang He then turned to Xu Yiman for confirmation.
Xu Yiman shook her head. "It's different; pig organs are larger. But that's not accurate either, because most people have seen the entrails of pigs and cows, yet they have never seen human entrails. Or perhaps she knows those are human entrails, but others can't tell."
"How do you know it's human entrails?" Old Shao asked Old Lady.
Old Lady's voice was high-pitched, as if she had gained the upper hand. "Otherwise, who would talk business in the middle of the night? It must be human flesh! You are the police, right? You must investigate!"
Director Wang looked at Old Lady and said, "Hey, how can you say that? Can this matter be taken lightly? So many people love to eat here; how could it possibly be human flesh? Officers, please don't mind her; she's just a bit chatty, but her heart isn't bad."
However, Old Shao's expression was serious. He looked at Director Wang and said, "To be honest, I came here specifically because of this matter."
"Human entrails?" Director Wang's eyes widened.
"Xu Yiman, go take a look," Shao the Elder instructed. "We need to search the entire cafeteria; we can't overlook any clues."
"Understood," Xu Yiman nodded.
After two long hours of work, Xu Yiman said, "It is human entrails."
