"Faster!" Ji Linchuan commanded.
The air conditioning in the car was strong, and Shuyao felt drowsy, hugging herself to keep from shivering.
Ji Linchuan lifted her up and held her in his arms.
"Are you awake?"
His sharply defined face appeared before her, and for a moment, she wondered if she was dreaming.
"What's wrong? Do I have something on my face?" Ji Linchuan raised an eyebrow.
"In the future, if you need anything, Lin Secretary will arrange it for you. Whether it's money or anything else, including meeting me."
His tone was quite gentle, a concession of sorts.
He didn't really love Shuyao. When she climbed into his bed years ago, he always felt it was a scheme.
However, he had no intention of changing wives. That would cause significant disruption in his life.
He had grown fond of the hidden marriage life; a sudden divorce could affect the company's stock.
Besides, her looks and figure were exactly his type; at least in that regard, he believed they were harmonious.
Shuyao listened quietly.
They had been married for three years, and reaching this level of conversation was already a concession.
Yet, he hadn't mentioned Wen Yuxi at all.
If she accepted everything he said now, it would mean she acknowledged that Wen Yuxi would always be a part of their lives.
There would be no changes.
Thinking of this made her feel a bit weary.
She calmly refused, "I'm fine, manager Ji. You don't need to worry."
Upon arriving at the hospital and undergoing an examination, Shuyao's anger had not yet subsided when Ji Linchuan stepped out for a smoke.
Just then, the doctor walked in.
After checking on Shuyao and confirming that she had regained consciousness, I closed the door and turned to her.
"Your current physical condition is not optimistic. In addition to anemia, you are also pregnant."
Shuyao's eyes widened in shock. Pregnant?
"What did you say?" she asked incredulously.
Her hand gently rested on her abdomen, as if she could feel the heartbeat of new life within her. Just a few days ago, she had experienced a dull pain in her belly. She wasn't sure if it was because of Ji Linchuan's anger. She pressed her hand against her stomach, where discomfort surged, thinking she was just tired.
A premonition had been growing stronger within her, but she dared not delve deeper into it. Once, she had forced herself to the bathroom, hoping a shower would help clear her mind. Standing in front of the mirror, she noticed her pale complexion, beads of sweat forming on her forehead, and the discomfort in her body becoming increasingly apparent.
She had always intended to go to the hospital for a check-up but never found the time. Never did she expect that she was truly pregnant!
The doctor continued, "Miss Shu, your physical condition is not suitable for excessive strain; you must rest well."
"Also, when do you plan to inform your family?" The doctor glanced at Ji Linchuan outside.
Shuyao pondered for a moment before shaking her head firmly. "Doctor, I don't want to tell him right now. Please keep this confidential."
She knew that this child had come at an inopportune time; revealing it now would only lead to his ridicule. She couldn't bear the thought of terminating the pregnancy either; this was their shared creation, and her heart was in turmoil.
She had once fantasized about growing old with him, but everything seemed to pale in comparison to his first love's smile. As long as his first love existed, she felt she could never truly hold a place in his heart.
Conflicted and anxious, she wanted to confide in her close friend Tang Zhaoran but feared that it would only worry her.
She definitely couldn't tell her mother; she would only use it to gain more benefits for herself. She couldn't let her child, who hadn't even been born yet, bear so much. Her heart tightened as she made a decision.
