However, her mother's stubbornness left her feeling powerless. At that moment, Shen Wanfen suddenly pushed Shuyao aside. Caught off guard, Shuyao stumbled and fell heavily to the ground. She clutched her stomach, her face turning pale, and cold sweat beaded on her forehead.
Ji Linchuan rushed forward to help her up, a flicker of worry crossing his eyes. "Are you okay?"
Shuyao bit her lip tightly, tears streaming down her face as a pool of blood appeared on the ground. Looking down at the blood, fear and dread filled her heart in an instant. Her hand instinctively rested on her slightly protruding belly, her gaze filled with panic and helplessness. She silently prayed, "Baby, baby, please be okay."
Madam Ji's keen eyes immediately noticed something was wrong. "You... you're pregnant?"
A fleeting joy crossed Shen Wanfen's face. She prayed inwardly: It can't be anything serious; with this child, her pension would have hope again.
Shuyao closed her eyes in pain, tears flowing uncontrollably. They had found out after all. She instinctively protected her belly.
"Shuyao, you're pregnant?" Ji Linchuan's voice was filled with disbelief and a hint of anger.
Madam Ji looked at Shuyao coldly, suspicion and hostility evident in her eyes. "Are you trying to use the child to blackmail us, the Ji Family?"
"No, I’m not!" Shuyao's voice trembled, tears glistening in her eyes. "I never intended to use the child against you!"
"Then why didn't you tell me?" Ji Linchuan's voice grew colder. "What exactly do you want?"
How could she hide such an important matter from him? It seemed she was determined not to continue their relationship.
Shuyao's heart felt like it was being cut into pieces.
"Tell me, do you want her to get rid of it too?"
She bit her lip tightly, lowering her head in silence as tears finally fell.
Ji Linchuan could no longer contain his anger. "Shuyao, if you really just wanted a quiet life, why didn't you tell me sooner? Why keep it a secret?"
Shuyao questioned him back, "If I had told you, what would your decision have been?"
"What do you want to do?" Ji Linchuan countered without answering.
She foolishly wanted to ask for his thoughts, but he turned the question back on her.
"Of course, get rid of it!" Madam Ji interjected.
"Fine, then I'll tell you—I never wanted to keep this child either. I will get rid of it!"
Shuyao broke down; she had never felt so disappointed before. He should have seen how heartbroken she was after falling earlier. Yet here he was, asking her.
Madam Ji watched coldly, her tone dripping with sarcasm. "Shuyao, do you think your tears will earn our sympathy? Do you think a child can bind us to the Ji Family?"
"Enough!" Ji Linchuan finally snapped, unable to bear it any longer. "Mom, stop talking!"
"This is your family's descendant; if you don't care, I can't believe Elder Ji will remain indifferent!"
Shen Wanfen was not one to back down either. As soon as she finished speaking, she intended to take Shuyao to see Elder Ji, completely oblivious to the fact that her daughter was pale and exhausted.
Blood pooled on the floor.
Shuyao's heart turned cold. Wiping away her tears and feeling drained, she collapsed against the side of the sofa, her voice resolute. "Ji Linchuan, I've made my decision. Let's get a divorce. I'll leave without taking anything and won't cause you any more trouble."
Ji Linchuan replied coldly, "Before we divorce, can you tell me whose child it is?"
Shuyao was too angry to speak, feeling utterly humiliated. Who else could have been with her that night besides him?
He actually came to ask this question!
"We, Yao Yao and I, have been very well-behaved since our marriage. The child is not from your Ji Family; who else could it be?"
Shen Wanfen, seeing her daughter in such a heartbroken state, was certain that the child must belong to Ji Linchuan.
"How would I know? Your daughter's reputation is already tarnished; there are rumors outside about her and that Male Star. Don't you know? The child could very well be his!"
Madam Ji said coldly.
Shuyao weakly lifted her eyelids and found Ji Linchuan looking at her, his eyes filled with probing concern.
He actually didn't believe her either.
Although he didn't say a word, Shuyao knew he was doubting her.
Despair filled her heart, and she fainted.
Secretary Lin arrived with the family doctor just as Ji Linchuan was carefully carrying her to the bed in the bedroom.
His movements were gentle, afraid of harming her fragile body.
The doctor, Tan Jinyan, was Ji Linchuan's college classmate, a medical master's graduate who had returned from studying in the United States.
After a brief examination, he began to reprimand Ji Linchuan.
"Your wife is already three months pregnant; how could you be so careless? Fortunately, there are no major issues. I'll prescribe some medication to support the pregnancy; she should rest in bed for about a week."
Ji Linchuan remained silent, his expression grim. After a long pause, he finally spoke slowly:
"Can a fetus that hasn't been born yet undergo DNA testing?"
