Long Yong looked up at Rao Jie, who was gazing back at him with a pair of calm, untroubled eyes. Rao Jie’s eyes were always so clear, so dark that they seemed to magnify any hint of guilt one might feel.
Long Yong felt utterly defenseless under Rao Jie’s gaze. “Alright, I know I was wrong. I won’t force you, but I will still help you find a place. As your senior and friend, it’s within my capabilities, and I hope you won’t refuse this much.”
Rao Jie smiled and nodded. Although the situation was a bit awkward, she felt genuinely happy that someone cared enough to help her. The gloomy mood she had carried all morning had vanished, leaving only a sense of grateful happiness.
She even joked, “You’d rather go back to squeeze into a four-person dorm than stay here. Is it because…” Rao Jie raised an eyebrow and pointed outside.
Long Yong looked embarrassed and helpless. “I only tutored their daughter in math out of neighborly kindness, but…”
Rao Jie chimed in with a laugh, “Their daughter has taken a liking to you, and her mother wants you as a son-in-law?”
Long Yong innocently rubbed his chin. “I haven’t done anything! I’ve been perfectly proper. I just didn’t want to break the situation, so I moved away. I thought they would understand, but I didn’t expect them to come looking for me again today.”
Rao Jie could imagine that with Long Yong’s good nature, gentleness, and charm, any parent would be fond of such an exemplary young man. Moreover, it was said that his family was well-off and he was still studying; he had his own single apartment here. It made sense that someone would have their eye on such a quality man.
It was just unfortunate for Long Yong that his kindness led to being pursued relentlessly, forcing him to escape.
Long Yong sighed in distress. “Since you’re not living here anymore, I guess I won’t come back either. We’ll see about this place later.”
Rao Jie recalled what the girl across the hall had said earlier and how she had been bombarding him with calls and messages. For the girl, it might have been brave pursuit, but for Long Yong, it had become a nuisance.
Seeing Long Yong’s helpless expression, she suggested, “How about I help you out later? You’ve helped me so much; it’s time for me to return the favor and make sure they stop bothering you. But you don’t mind… your reputation being at stake?”
Long Yong paused for a moment before bursting into laughter. “Are you suggesting we pretend I’m your boyfriend to scare them off?”
Rao Jie’s face flushed as she nodded shyly.
Long Yong said softly, “I’d actually prefer if it were real.”
Rao Jie turned her head away awkwardly. “If you think this plan is bad, then forget it.”
Long Yong shook his head. “No, it’s great! But given your personality, do you know how to pull it off? You surprised me by thinking of such a solution!”
Rao Jie blushed and replied, “I saw Wu Xin do something like this before, so I remembered it.”
Curious, Long Yong asked, “What did she do?”
Rao Jie chuckled at the memory from their freshman year when someone had been harassing Wei Qian and even followed her to school. Wu Xin had stepped in dramatically, pretending to be Wei Qian’s girlfriend, which completely grossed out the harasser who thought he had fallen for a lesbian. After that encounter, he never dared to bother Wei Qian again.
The two girls complemented each other well—one was sharp and cool while the other was stunningly beautiful and alluring. At one point during the act, Wu Xin even kissed Wei Qian, causing a stir of screams around them. Wei Qian's good friend Sun Baiyang took a picture of that moment and spent the entire semester teasing them about it until Wei Qian finally lost her temper and hit him.
