As the leader of the Special Investigation Team, I lacked authority, so I could only seek help from the Captain with my eyes. I furrowed my brows, giving him a look that clearly said, "Please don't agree." The Captain seemed to understand my meaning, a knowing smile appearing on his face. Then he spoke, "Alright, just you two! Go get ready! For safety's sake, Lichun, you should go too!" 0

Everyone nodded and dispersed to prepare. I was dumbfounded, thinking to myself that this guy must not have understood my look. Sure enough, I heard the Detective Captain say, "Shilin, I really didn't expect you to agree. You truly are the leader of the Special Investigation Team!" I was speechless and asked, "How did you figure out that I agreed?" 0

The Criminal Investigation Team leader patted my shoulder and replied, "Your resolute gaze just now has already betrayed your true feelings..." 0

That night, a newcomer appeared on the streaming platform—more accurately, it was a combination of three people. These three beautiful women each had their own charm: one was youthful and vibrant, wearing a baseball cap and looking incredibly cute; another was mature and sexy, exuding a unique allure; while the third had a striking presence with short hair that made her look capable and decisive. 0

As soon as this trio appeared, they captured the attention of countless viewers, garnering nearly one hundred thousand views that night. 0

Mary held a tablet in one hand while playfully pinching Yang Xiaojuan's and Lichun's cheeks with the other. "Hello everyone! We are the new streamers! Tonight we’re going on an adventure in an abandoned factory! The location is... Hope you all stay tuned for us!" 0

At this moment, around ten o'clock at night, while Mary greeted the audience, the Detective Captain and I had already set up an ambush around the abandoned factory. This factory had been deserted since its bankruptcy and lay silent under the moonlight, appearing eerie and foreboding. 0

I adjusted the sound in my earpiece to comfortably hear Mary and the others. Opening the channel, I said, "Everyone adjust your earpieces to ensure smooth communication. Over." 0

"Second Team is good," "Team Three is good..." After confirming everything was fine, I commanded, "Action!" 0

Mary's voice came through: "Alright, enough chit-chat! We're heading out now! Thank you all for your support; love you!" As she spoke, I heard her blow a heavy kiss followed by the sound of a car starting up along with her singing and chatting. 0

The Detective Captain didn’t turn on his earpiece but leaned closer to me and asked, "Shilin, do you think the Killer will show up tonight?" 0

I shook my head while scanning the surroundings with night vision goggles and whispered back, "If I'm not mistaken, we're destined to return empty-handed today. The Killer has a high level of counter-surveillance awareness; he must be suspicious of this new streamer. Without absolute certainty, he won't show up." 0

The Detective Captain nodded gravely. I continued, "But don’t be discouraged; quantity leads to quality. As long as we persist, I refuse to believe that the Killer can remain more patient than us!" 0

Even without using earpieces, we could clearly hear the sound of cars approaching; we knew Mary and her team had arrived at the factory. According to our prior plan, they began exploring this enormous factory while playing Spirit Game and interacting with their audience. 0

The outcome was as expected—after more than two hours, the Killer indeed did not appear. It was already past one o'clock when I opened a single-channel microphone to tell Mary, "The Killer won't show up tonight; we'll continue tomorrow." 0

Receiving my order, Mary said, "That's it for tonight's stream! It's getting late; goodnight everyone! We'll be back tomorrow for another live stream. As for the location... I'll post it in the chat tomorrow." 0

Everyone returned empty-handed and looked somewhat disappointed. I said, "There's no rush with this matter; it seems we'll need a few more days to draw out this Killer." 0

After two consecutive days of streaming and ambushing without any sign of the Killer, this trio instead became popular. The website even contacted Mary hoping she would sign a contract with them. The more attention they received, the more likely it was that the Killer would notice us. I even specifically asked Chuxue, the group leader of Spirit Game, to promote our live streams across various groups and websites. 0

Two more days passed, and there was still no sign of the Killer. 0

Now, it wasn't just the Police Department that was anxious; even our Special Investigation Team was getting worried. With another team on the verge of solving a case, it would be too embarrassing to return empty-handed. 0

This was already the fourth day of the live broadcast, and even I couldn't help but wonder if the Killer might be someone from within our ranks. After all, it had been four days without any activity from the Killer. 0

"Do you think the Killer isn't even paying attention to us? Or maybe they've moved on to another city?" Detective Captain said to me. 0

"That can't be! The Killer must be from this city. And it's been a week! The Killer hasn't struck yet! They must be getting restless. Everyone, stay alert! The Killer could appear at any moment!" I announced over the channel. 0

At that moment, a voice from a Criminal Investigation Team member came through. "Captain, the tech team has identified several individuals who were simultaneously following Sister Qi and Megan! There are five in total; we've located four of them, but one is currently unaccounted for. That person could very well be the Killer!" 0

I felt a surge of excitement. With this narrowed-down list, it was highly likely that the missing individual was indeed the Killer. 0

Meanwhile, several photos were automatically sent to my phone, with a long string of numbers indicating they were set up for automatic dispatch by Mary. There were five photos in total, featuring men ranging in age from twenty to forty. 0

"Captain!" an urgent voice called out. "We've spotted a suspicious individual at the scene and have apprehended him!" 0

"The Killer has appeared!" Before I could respond, the leader of the Criminal Investigation Team spoke up first. 0

We rushed to the capture site and found several members of the Criminal Investigation Team holding down a man. I lifted his head and compared it with the photos on my phone. Sure enough, he was one of those in the images—someone who had been following Sister Qi's live stream and Megan's social media accounts. If this man wasn't the Killer, then who could be? 0

"Take him back!" I ordered. 0

Detective Captain nodded, and our team began to head back. The live broadcast had only just started, and we had already captured the Killer; everyone let out a sigh of relief. I opened the channel again and said, "Let's retreat; we've caught the Killer!" To avoid alerting him to our presence, we parked our cars far away while the criminal investigation team gathered at the parking area. 0

"Hey!" One of the detectives nudged me with his elbow and said, "Since we've caught the Killer, shouldn't we call them down?" 0

Since my communication with Mary and her team was direct, I was the only one who could reach them while they were live streaming. An idea suddenly popped into my mind. "Hehe, since we've caught the Killer, why not let them stream for a whole night? They're quite a popular trio right now!" 0

Detective Captain looked at me and said, "Shilin, you have some mischievous ideas!" 0

After about half an hour of walking, we finally reached our parked cars and returned to the Police Department to process the Killer. Only then did we remove his hood for a closer look. He appeared to be around forty years old, with an elegant demeanor and wearing gold-rimmed glasses. His clothing and accessories suggested high-quality materials; he certainly didn't look like someone who had committed heinous crimes. 0

The information had already been sent to my phone. "Gao Shangde, right? A professor at our city's University of Science and Technology? Do you know why I've brought you in?" 0

Gao Shangde sighed and said, "Since you have caught me, I won't say much. I know that after this, my reputation will be ruined, but I don't care anymore. Sometimes, people drag their bodies around, wearing masks, and over time, they can't take them off. But I have finally broken free from my cage and lived as my true self. I am alive, while you are all already dead!" 0

Detective Captain glanced at Professor Gao and then at me, whispering, "Is this what university professors are like?" 0

I ignored the professor and placed a package on the table in front of me. This was the package he had brought to the scene. I opened it to find a bizarre assortment of items: ropes, a pair of leather pants, an anal plug, even a carrot, and a small hammer. 0

As we pulled out each item from the package, the professor's head tilted higher, like a warrior preparing for a noble sacrifice. I weighed the hammer in my hand; it seemed to have been cleaned thoroughly and looked quite pristine. I handed it to an Investigator and said, "Take this to forensics for examination. Let's see if it's the murder weapon." 0

Then I sent a photo of the professor to Yan Junde, who was currently working on another lead related to Detective Captain's "anti-vice" operation, asking if this person had any perverse sexual demands. From what was in his package, it was clear that this professor was definitely a deviant. 0

Yan Junde replied that he understood. 0

I also sent a message to Chuxue, indicating that she didn't need to continue her promotion; we had already captured the suspect. Coincidentally, Gao Shangde was also a member of Chuxue's group. It seemed that he had learned about Megan and the others' whereabouts through that group. The forensic results would take at least an hour to come back, at which point we would have solid evidence confirming Gao Shangde's involvement in the murders. However, it seemed that this professor had already confessed. 0

"That's good enough. Now tell me everything," I said as I sat down in front of him and asked. 0
