From the time modern humans emerged between forty to one hundred thousand years ago, they have existed as the most intelligent species on Earth. Since then, the development of humanity has far outpaced that of other species, establishing humans as the dominant force in the world. As a result, the variety of species consumed by humans has grown increasingly rich, with almost no species escaping human appetite. 0

At noon, A-Bao took a can of beef from his drawer and shared it with us. As Mary ate, she said, "Long time no see! Look at you, you've gained some weight again, and those dark circles under your eyes are getting worse. It seems your job is indeed much tougher than ours. But we didn't come empty-handed today; we brought you gifts." 0

A-Bao was pleasantly surprised that we had brought him something and immediately became as lively as a playful rabbit, jumping around and forgetting about his meal. He rushed over to the package we had brought and eagerly opened it, pulling out our gifts one by one. 0

"Let me see what these gifts are. What is this? A big roll of toilet paper? Cotton gloves? And a book?" A-Bao said in confusion. "What kind of gifts are these? How to completely quit hand Y?" 0

I stood up and patted A-Bao on the shoulder, saying, "As the saying goes, a little indulgence is enjoyable, but excessive indulgence is harmful. You need to take care of your health. Look at you; you're only fifty but look like you're eighty. You don't even have a wife; you need to exercise restraint. Promise me you'll take care of yourself." 0

A-Bao swatted my hand away and replied, "I'm only in my thirties! Forget it; I see you all don’t understand the contributions I make to society. There’s something I planned to discuss after lunch, but since you've already eaten the canned food, I’ll tell you now." 0

"I received a mission from my superiors today; several cans of Human Meat Canned Food were discovered in Ancient City!" A-Bao stated clearly while glancing at the cans on our table. 0

Mary immediately started gagging... 0

On the plane, Mary said, "I didn't expect this fat guy to be so devious. Knowing that this case is about investigating Human Meat Canned Food, he still made us eat beef canned food at lunch. Now just seeing canned food makes me want to throw up; it's so disgusting!" 0

I also didn't expect to be outsmarted by A-Bao. Thankfully, I was well-informed enough not to embarrass myself like Mary did in front of him. Shaking my head, I asked, "A-Bao should have sent you the details about this case by now, right? What's the current situation?" 0

Mary nodded and opened her laptop. She said to us, "The incident occurred in Ancient City when a doctor bought an instant canned food from a convenience store on his way home. When he opened it at home, he noticed something was off. So he took the can to the hospital for testing, which revealed that the meat chunks were human flesh!" 0

"Human Meat Canned Food," Juan Juan said while shaking his head. 0

"That's right; the boss of the convenience store has already been arrested," Mary continued as she looked through the information. "According to his confession, this can mysteriously appeared in his store without him ordering it. It happened during evening rush hour when a customer brought a can to check out. Although the convenience store boss knew it wasn't his stock, he didn't care about where it came from as long as he could make money. So he sold that can to the doctor for ten bucks." 0

Yan Junde spoke at that moment, "So someone placed the canned food on the shelf, intending to sell this Human Meat Canned Food?" 0

Mary nodded, her expression one of shock as she replied, "That seems to be the case. What's shocking is that during the subsequent investigation by the Ancient City police, they discovered that there were dozens of these cans, which the Killer had placed in various Convenience Stores and small supermarkets. So far, the police have recovered sixty-two cans, of which only fifty are intact; the remaining twelve..." 0

At this point, we finally understood why Mary was so shocked. Yan Junde immediately asked, "So twelve of those cans have already been consumed by someone?" 0

Mary nodded. Suddenly, the room fell silent, and goosebumps rose on everyone's skin. Just imagine, one day you go downstairs to buy a can of food, eat it, and then someone tells you that can was made from human flesh. What would you feel? I think those people would never eat canned food again in their lives; they might even be throwing up right now. 0

Juan Juan frowned and then said, "If we consider an adult and use the most common type of canned food as a reference, sixty-two cans are far from enough to fill one person up, especially after cooking. Perhaps there are even more such cans that haven't been discovered yet. If that doctor hadn't accidentally bought this can and reported it to the police, there could have been even more cases of Human Meat Canned Food being consumed!" 0

"Exactly!" Mary continued, "This Human Meat Canned Food is being searched for throughout the city; we will definitely find more in the future. It can now be confirmed that these Human Meat Canned Foods were not supplied by businesses but were all placed there by the Killer. Those stores are small and generally lack surveillance; it seems the Killer specifically chose them." 0

"The images have come through." Mary turned her computer towards us, and a picture of a can appeared on the screen. The can looked like a typical luncheon meat can and wasn't very large. Juan Juan was right; if it were this type of can, it would take dozens to contain all the meat from one person. It seemed clear that the Killer had been planning this for a long time. 0

Upon arriving at the Ancient City Public Security Bureau, we pushed open the door and immediately saw numerous cans piled in a corner of the conference room—exactly like those we had seen on the plane. This pile must be the Human Meat Canned Food. Dozens of cans were stacked together, looking quite dense. I had encountered many dismemberment cases before; most were aimed at eliminating evidence for easier disposal of bodies. However, turning human flesh into canned food and distributing it to Convenience Stores for consumption was something I had never seen before. 0

The captain of the Criminal Investigation Team in Ancient City turned out to be a woman, which impressed me greatly—truly a capable woman not to be underestimated. Upon seeing us, she skipped pleasantries and directly stated, "Special Investigation Team, I've heard of your reputation long ago; however, we actually don't need you here at all. The director insisted that you must investigate this case, so I had no choice but to agree. My name is Jiang Yan; please sit down while I briefly explain what we currently know." 0

We exchanged glances and shook our heads; this Female Detective Captain exuded competence and seemed to be a veteran at solving cases. Jiang Yan continued, "After receiving the report, we immediately detained the Boss of the Convenience Store. Upon verification, we found he was not the Killer. At that point, we realized this case was definitely not minor and promptly began searching for these cans citywide; indeed, we found a total of sixty-two cans." 0

Pausing for a moment, Jiang Yan continued, "However, these sixty-two cans cannot possibly be all of them. There are likely dozens more that haven't been discovered or that the Killer hasn't had time to place in Convenience Stores yet. From this information, we've drawn several conclusions: First, this Killer is premeditated and organized; producing canned food requires significant time for processing and packaging. Second, this victim must have been missing for quite some time; we are not considering any missing persons from within the last seven days. Thirdly, while reviewing surveillance footage—although the Killer chose stores without cameras—he may not have evaded roadside surveillance." 0

"Based on these points," Jiang Yan said decisively, "the Ancient City police have decided to split our Police Force into two teams: one will investigate surveillance footage while the other will look into missing persons reports. Our first task is to identify the Victim. If we can't even determine who the Victim is, everything else will be pointless." Jiang Yan looked at us and asked if there were any errors in our analysis or if we had anything to add. 0

Her tone carried an undeniable authority; her brows were sharp with determination. Although she could be considered beautiful in appearance, I bet Jiang Yan definitely didn't have a partner! While I was lost in thought, I noticed everyone was looking at me. I cleared my throat twice and said, "Captain Jiang makes valid points; let's proceed as she suggested. I'll just add one thing: since the Killer was able to turn human flesh into canned food, it indicates he has access to equipment for canning food—this suggests he has financial resources." 0

"Alright, let me arrange this..." I continued. 0

Before I could finish, Jiang Yan said, "Then I'll take care of it." 0

We collided in our intentions. Jiang Yan shot me a glare before saying, "I'll handle the specific tasks. You Special Investigation Team will be responsible for investigating the canned goods." As she spoke, she pointed to a corner of the room where the cans were stacked and added, "These cans haven't been opened yet. I know there are some exceptionally skilled forensic experts in your Special Investigation Team. Since that's the case, you should stay at the bureau and see if you can find any clues from these cans." 0

In less than half an hour, Jiang Yan had arranged everything. The people in the conference room had left, leaving us staring at each other. Mary said, "Is this considered being placed under house arrest? With so many cans, even if we open them, it will take a long time. Not to mention investigating each one. The Police Department has forensic experts too; why do they want us to do this?" 0

It seemed that this Jiang Yan was indeed a decisive and formidable woman. I replied, "Often, they don't welcome our presence; our arrival highlights their incompetence. It looks like Captain Jiang is quite competitive. However, since Captain Jiang has assigned us a task, we might as well follow through." 0

Mary seemed a bit disheartened, so I comforted her, saying, "Even though Captain Jiang has given us a task, it doesn't hinder our own actions. You still have your computer, right? Captain Jiang is right about one thing; we need to quickly identify the deceased. Although there are many of them, they might not be as fast as you in conducting an investigation." 0

Upon hearing my words, Mary nodded vigorously and said, "Then let's compete with them to see who identifies the deceased first. When that happens, we'll show her who's really in charge!" 0
