Although all three of them claimed to have seen a vague figure, none had caught a clear glimpse of the person’s true appearance. They all believed that one of the residents in the dormitory was responsible for the murder, yet no one suspected that it could have been an outsider. This distrust within the dormitory seemed to extend beyond just Zhao Kaifang; it had spread throughout the entire living space. 0

People often say that university life is simple and beautiful, something many long for. However, most of the time, whether in campus or society, darkness remains the same, and so does light. I suddenly recalled a line from The Smiling, Proud Wanderer: "Wherever there are people, there is a world; people are the world, how can you escape?" 0

Captain Li approached and said, "Captain Shao, we’ve investigated this case to this point and can basically conclude that Zhao Huanghe committed suicide out of guilt after the murder, right? How about we close the case now? It has been under investigation for nearly a week; dragging it out any longer might not look good." 0

"The online fervor surrounding this case hasn’t diminished at all," Captain Li glanced at me hesitantly but continued, "Some netizens are eagerly hoping that the police will quickly find the killer, while others want you to provide an explanation. After all, your video of hitting someone is still circulating online." 0

Hearing this, Mary remarked, "Those self-righteous people online really are something. They often stir up trouble without understanding the situation. They just want things to escalate; that’s when they feel satisfied. From their moral high ground, they act as if they’re pointing fingers at everything. If it were in reality, I think they would be the most pathetic ones." 0

Sighing, I said, "I’ve already hit someone; I don’t regret it. As a police officer serving the people, I admit I haven’t set a good example. But right now, I’m not concerned about that—whether my department criticizes me or demotes me doesn’t matter. However, we can’t close this case yet; as I mentioned before, there are still many things I haven’t figured out." 0

Captain Li patted my shoulder in understanding and said, "Since you insist on this course of action, fine. Just let me know when you’ve made up your mind. I’ll go organize the case materials; if you need my help with anything, just call." 0

"What exactly are you still doubting?" With only members of our Special Investigation Team left in the office, Juan Juan asked at that moment. "Is there something you can share so we can all think about it together?" 0

I rubbed my temples with my fingers and replied lightly, "When it comes down to it, any evidence could fit together. Zhao Huanghe described the scene in detail; if he wasn’t there, he couldn’t possibly know such intricate details. Yet based on his final choice, I find it hard to understand. A person who could erase all traces at the scene and who lends money at high interest wouldn’t directly transfer money into their accounts." 0

Mary added, "Speaking of which, I'm still investigating Zhao Huanghe's overseas funds. However, this raises some contradictions: if Zhao Huanghe had such channels, he could transfer money into their accounts through overseas accounts. This complicates matters with banks and procedures; whether we can trace it back becomes an issue. At that point, we might not even be able to determine if Zhao Huanghe was behind those funds." 0

"That’s where the doubt lies!" I sighed again and said, "The beginning and end of this case seem entirely different in style. At first, it was meticulous and complex without leaving any clues for the police. Because of this, we turned our attention to Zhao Kaifang’s relationships; however, later on, evidence became glaringly obvious before us." 0

I tapped my fingers lightly on the table: "This suggests that the killer is contradictory in nature. Analyzing this way makes it seem like either there were multiple killers or that one person has a split personality." 0

Everyone fell silent; although what I said seemed accurate. But if not Zhao Huanghe, who else could be behind this? Just as we were deep in thought, I heard someone outside calling my name. When I stepped out to check, I found a package waiting for me. Returning to the office and opening it revealed a delicate diary. 0

Suddenly remembering, I realized this was the notebook that Zhao Kaiyuan had sent me yesterday belonging to Zhao Kaifang. According to Zhao Kaiyuan, this diary was written by Zhao Kaifang from junior high school through high school. However, Zhao Kaiyuan had never opened it because he was afraid to look inside; he feared it would only bring him more sadness and despair. Thus he sent it to me in hopes that someone could understand Zhao Kaifang and instructed me to destroy it after reading. 0

Due to Zhao Kaiyuan's request, this diary can only be read by me. Mary went to investigate Zhao Huanghe's overseas funding issues, Juan Juan went to the library to study, and Dezi wanted to take a walk alone, considering the uncertain possibility of HIV infection. I sat alone in the office, looking at this diary. 0

The diary had already begun to yellow, indicating that it was an old one. However, it showed little wear and tear and appeared to be well-maintained. The diary was exquisite, of moderate size, with a cute cat on the cover and Zhao Kaifang's elegant handwriting beside it. 0

Since this diary recorded many events from Zhao Kaifang's junior high school to high school years, I was afraid of missing some details. So I started reading from the first page and continued until the end. Before I knew it, evening had arrived. After finishing, I felt a complex emotion stirring within me. Sadness, frustration, and helplessness swirled in my heart; for a moment, I truly wanted to cry. 0

Zhao Kaifang's junior high school diary was completely different from her high school diary. The junior high school entries were cute and cheerful; it was clear at a glance that Zhao Kaifang was a lively and adorable girl. However, in her high school diary, she became dark and rebellious, like a fully grown venomous snake. 0

My focus was on Zhao Kaifang's high school diary. 0

In her diary, Zhao Kaifang wrote more than once: "I see this world as dark, an abyss without bottom. In this dark world, some people tear off the false masks while others never take them off. If I had a choice, I would rather be the former; I would prefer to be sincerely bad than to be a hypocrite." 0

She also wrote: "Living is largely about seeking death. Sometimes I really want to die, but at other times I don't want to die. I feel that when a person dies, they lose everything; yet living is like rotting mud in a sewer—disgusting and foul-smelling. When that lump of mud becomes so repugnant that it no longer even disgusts anyone, then it should be completely liberated." 0

Such sorrowful words filled the latter half of the diary. After reading them, that gloominess lingered in my heart for a long time without fading away. Zhao Kaifang compared herself to rotten mud; her only purpose seemed to be to disgust others. She constantly sought attention from others but often felt her existence was increasingly meaningless. 0

Because of this feeling, she always tried to please others, hoping they would notice her and wanting to make friends. Yet at the same time, she wished not to be noticed by anyone at all and simply die in a corner of the world. This contradictory mindset made Zhao Kaifang aware that what she was doing was wrong, yet she allowed herself to fall deeper into despair. She became numb—outwardly unfeeling and inwardly empty. Living felt like being dead; she had become a true walking corpse. 0

The only thing that kept Zhao Kaifang going was Zhao Ke'er. 0

Zhao Kaifang mentioned Zhao Ke'er multiple times in her high school diary because she saw Zhao Ke'er as another version of herself. If nothing had happened in junior high school, she would have been like Zhao Ke'er—playing happily with classmates, having loving parents, and caring friends. Yes, how much she wished she could live like Zhao Ke'er! But she had become a worthless person who no longer deserved to stand in the sunlight. 0

Being in the sunlight seemed as if one would not be tainted by darkness at all. Indeed, who wouldn't want such a life? Zhao Kaifang also fantasized about escaping this world entirely and starting anew in a place where no one knew her. However, whenever she thought of what happened in junior high school, she felt unworthy. 0

She believed she only deserved to live in the sewers; she was like maggots in a toilet—dirty and unworthy of standing in the sunlight. 0

Because of this, Zhao Kaifang was unwilling to let Zhao Ke'er come into contact with even a hint of darkness. She hoped to stand in the shadows, bringing light to Zhao Ke'er. 0

Upon reading this, my brows furrowed sharply. Looking at Zhao Kaifang's diary, the mysteries in my heart gradually began to unravel. The disconnected clues now connected. I finally understood why Zhao Huanghe had acted this way, and I realized the purpose behind the clues that Zhao Huanghe had deliberately left behind. 0

However, I needed substantial evidence. Otherwise, relying solely on my guesses and reasoning would be futile. 0

I lifted my head and saw that the sun was setting outside; night was about to fall. This was the last day. In the early hours of the morning, we had to fly back to the capital and report back to the department. This was a done deal, not subject to change. This meant that if I wanted to completely solve this case, I only had this last bit of time left. 0

It was now seven o'clock in the evening, with six hours remaining until one o'clock; I had to make every second count. 0

Thinking of this, I immediately wrote up some materials and handed them to Dezi, instructing him to fly to Kaiyang City right away: "Dezi, finding the relationship between these two individuals is our top priority right now. If we can uncover that, this case will be completely solved. Even though we are leaving, the Second Unit will take over our investigation. However, we have invested so much effort into this; I hope our team can resolve this case." 0

Dezi nodded and left. 0

I turned to Mary and said, "Immediately check this person's account to see if she has recently received a large sum of money. Compare it with Zhao Huanghe's account overseas and see if the amounts correspond. If they do match, it would indicate that she is definitely the Killer." 0

An unsolved mystery: a mysterious 21st-century Airborne Troops unit appeared in North America, rescuing an Indian Red-Haired Beauty, enjoying the company of a Blue-Eyed Busty Blonde, dominating Wall Street, amassing wealth across America, and initiating a Han Ethnic Colonial Global Model. 0
