I estimated that Dezi felt the same way I did; overall, I felt like I was in a state of discomfort. I instinctively covered myself with my hand, becoming part of the "Covering the Crotch Club." The flesh that had fallen out was nothing other than a significant symbol of manhood. I couldn't understand why such a thing would be found in a remote control. It definitely wasn't something the manufacturers had put there, which meant it was a clue left by the Killer.
The flesh had slipped from Mary's hand and landed directly on the ground, bouncing twice on the dusty floor before coming to rest in a corner. Looking at this "egg" on the floor, Mary’s expression was one of disgust, as if she had just eaten a fly. She took a deep breath and slowly said, "How could there be such a thing inside a remote control? It's just too... too disgusting."
I put on gloves and picked up the "egg," quickly placing it into an Evidence Bag. Then I hurried to check another remote control, and sure enough, the joystick couldn't move left or right either. But this time I was smarter; instead of using brute force, I carefully opened the back cover of the remote.
Indeed, another "egg" was embedded inside this remote control, which I also placed into the Evidence Bag.
The leg tied to the remote control belonged to a woman, while what was left inside was clearly from a man. This time, the Killer had left parts from two different bodies at one scene. This was different from his previous methods; there were now two victims—one male and one female.
These two victims must have had some sort of relationship—perhaps they were married or siblings—otherwise, the Killer wouldn't have linked them together. If these were indeed two victims, then it indicated that this wasn't a clue for the next victim but rather something left behind from this murder case, merely a result of this particular crime.
If that were the case, then there were still clues to be found. Since there were clues within the remote control, it stood to reason that the main subject of this case—the Remote Control Car—should also contain clues. With that thought in mind, I immediately picked up the Remote Control Car from the ground and examined it closely. To my surprise, its underside also had a seamless structure with no screws.
It seemed that both this remote control and the Remote Control Car had been modified by the Killer, designed so we wouldn't have to struggle to open them and discover what lay inside. With some effort, I pried off the back cover and found an amputated organ inside, now in a shriveled state. The front end was exposed and appeared bruised with a purplish hue; it looked like it had been constricted by something during its lifetime, clearly indicating poor blood circulation.
Seeing this object left me at a loss for words regarding my feelings. A sense of inexplicable unease washed over me; perhaps it was a sorrow for what had happened to someone of the same gender. Moreover, judging by its condition, it seemed that it had been constricted and engorged before being severed. Just considering this fact made one imagine the despair he must have felt.
A few people noticed my fluctuating expression and hurried over to see what had happened; upon glancing at it, they were rendered speechless.
After taking a quick look, Juan Juan remarked, "From this male organ's appearance, it seems to have been cut off while he was still alive. The way it's severed shows that its head is protruding outward with the foreskin turned inside out; you can tell it was constricted at the base with something like rope."
"The time frame is likely between five to seven hours; the organ has gradually shrunk from an engorged state to now being completely necrotic." Juan Juan placed this item into an Evidence Bag and continued, "This means that when he was alive, he experienced something akin to being castrated. Along with those two testicles we found earlier, they must have been bound together as well. The direction of their cuts is consistent."
"Moreover," Juan Juan added while holding up the Evidence Bag for us to see the wound's incision, "the skin flaps show a progressive layering that is entirely different from that of Severed Feet." She explained further: "This indicates that this part wasn't simply cut off in one go but rather removed bit by bit."
At that moment, something suddenly came to my mind, and I said, "Could it be that the thing used to cut this off was fishing line? Fishing line has a certain toughness and sharpness; it's common for anglers to accidentally get cut by it."
Juan Juan rested her chin on her hand and slowly replied, "Fishing line has a degree of elasticity. If it were fishing line, there should be visible indentations on the skin where it wrapped around, but there are none here. Of course, different types of fishing line have varying degrees of elasticity, so it's possible. However, if I had to guess, it would likely be a piano string, specifically a higher-pitched piano string. It has great tension and is just as sharp as fishing line."
I nodded; both of these items were indeed possibilities. Analyzing from this perspective, it seemed that the clues left by the Killer regarding the wounds could lead us somewhere. The severed feet showed clean cuts, indicating that whatever caused the severing was extremely sharp. As for the male's genital injury, it was suspected to have been inflicted by something equally sharp.
Thinking along these lines, I suddenly recalled a murder case I had seen before in a fishing village where two individuals had a conflict. One night, one of them tied fishing line across the path that the other would take. The next morning, as the second man rode his motorcycle out in the early dawn when visibility was low, he couldn't see the fishing line in the air.
As he sped along on his motorcycle, his neck was perfectly aligned with the fishing line. It wasn't until he had traveled about ten meters that his head finally fell off. Even without his head, he remained seated on the motorcycle for several dozen meters before losing control and crashing to the ground.
Afterward, the first man took away the fishing line, believing he had committed the perfect crime. However, the police quickly found him because he didn't realize they would investigate the deceased's relationships and utilize high-tech methods like fingerprint and DNA analysis. The fishing line at his home contained DNA from the victim. When he was arrested, he couldn't help but exclaim, "I didn't know technology had advanced this far!"
This case illustrated that if tightly bound and accelerated sufficiently, sharp fishing line could indeed sever body parts. Could it be that the deaths of these two victims were related to either fishing line or piano string? One wound was caused by a swift cut resulting in a smooth edge, while the other was inflicted more slowly and thus had layers.
I shared my thoughts with Juan Juan, hoping to receive her professional insight.
Juan Juan nodded thoughtfully and said, "There is indeed such a possibility. Could this be what the Killer is trying to tell us? A single line?"
I rubbed my temples with my fingers and slowly replied, "Then our target is clear. North City is an inland city; although there is a large river running through it, there aren't many places suitable for fishing. So finding those few fishing spots shouldn't be too difficult. Additionally, piano strings aren't commonly used items either; we should be able to track down anyone who purchased piano strings in North City within a week. By pursuing both leads simultaneously, we should be able to find these two bodies and clues regarding the next victim."
While we spoke, Dezi had already called Captain to arrange for someone from their department to handle this matter.
"But what exactly is the Killer trying to achieve?" Juan Juan looked around the empty room and slowly said, "From the first victim until now, every time the Killer commits a crime, they leave behind a part of the victim's body at the scene. I believe this is not random; there must be some intention behind it. However, we can't see what that intention is yet."
Juan Juan made a valid point; I indeed felt a strong sense of agreement. Previously, I thought Killer was merely provoking the police, killing for the sake of killing. However, it seems my assumption was incorrect. The Spring Return Nursing Home Incident clearly indicates that Killer's provocation of the police had a deeper purpose than mere taunting.
Killer had been planning this murder case for a long time. Perhaps even then, he knew that members of the organization would come after him, and no matter where he ran, it would be futile. After careful consideration, he decided to create a murder case. He aimed to draw our attention and stir up the waters; the more forces involved, the better he could navigate through them and protect himself.
This means that Killer must have had specific objectives in mind. Therefore, the earlier conclusion that Killer was indiscriminately killing no longer holds. This implies that those he killed must have some connection to him; perhaps they were individuals who could uncover his identity or secrets.
Through these murders, Killer sought to achieve three goals. First, he needed to eliminate witnesses—these victims surely knew something important. Second, he hoped the police would capture individuals sent by Zhao Mingkun and others from the organization. Third, after accomplishing the first two objectives, he wanted to escape unscathed from the dual pursuit of both the police and the mysterious organization.
Each of these goals was increasingly difficult. Even if he had meticulously planned how to kill these people long ago, the latter two objectives were fraught with variables; one misstep could lead to his downfall. Of course, if we caught him and he faced legal consequences, there might still be a chance for him to live a bit longer.
However, if he fell into the hands of Zhao Mingkun and He Pingli, it would be virtually impossible for Killer to escape unscathed. If he were smart enough, he would voluntarily turn himself in; yet he chose an entirely different path. Either Killer was incredibly reckless or he understood that if captured, given his past actions, death would be inevitable.
There was hardly anything left to investigate in this house. It seemed Zhao Mingkun and his team had not discovered this place yet. Thinking of this, I said to everyone, "Take everything away and clean up the blood in this room. If we are going to find this Killer together with Zhao Mingkun and others, removing evidence will be very beneficial."
Juan Juan nodded and took out her phone to document the scene thoroughly. Once she confirmed everything was saved, we began cleaning up the area. However, we couldn't erase the tire tracks left outside; but that didn't matter much—if Zhao Mingkun's team managed to find this place, they wouldn't uncover anything useful at the scene.
