Dezi ultimately let Guo Guoqing go, and I felt a slight sense of relief, but my heart was still heavy with worry. This incident was far from glorious for Dezi. If Guo Guoqing used this to threaten Dezi, not only would Dezi's future be in jeopardy, but he could also face suspension, or worse, permanent dismissal. After all, he had dealt with a minor, even if that minor was a murderous demon.
As Dezi remained on the ground, Guo Guoqing leaned against one wall of the interrogation room, watching Dezi with cold eyes, yet a smirk crept across his lips—a smile that was more mocking than genuine, as if he found the situation amusing. Through the one-way glass, I could see Dezi approaching the door.
Then came the sound of a loud "bang" as the door swung open. Dezi stepped out, his face pale with anger. Inside, Guo Guoqing shouted, "Good job! Those three punches will be my best weapon in court! Ha! Well done!"
Seeing Dezi emerge like that filled me with rage. I punched him hard on the shoulder and exclaimed, "Are you out of your mind? Who told you to do that? Do you want to throw your career away?"
Dezi looked genuinely frustrated at that moment. He replied, "Mary and Sister Juan were almost violated! This was all orchestrated by Guo Guoqing. I couldn't swallow my anger without hitting him! Can you? The Killer is right in front of us, and we can't do anything about it. If violence could make him talk, I wouldn't hesitate!"
It was clear that Dezi was furious, and I understood his feelings. From the very beginning of this case, we knew who the Killer was and that all we needed to do was pry open Guo Guoqing's mouth to bring Boss Lady back and capture his accomplices. It should have been straightforward.
But what could we do when Guo Guoqing stubbornly refused to speak? Should we beat him senseless like Dezi did or simply shoot him? No matter what we did in front of Guo Guoqing, it felt like we were just entertaining ourselves with our own words. For someone like him who wouldn't budge under pressure or persuasion, our frustration only grew without any real solution.
The police station was in chaos; some were calling for a doctor while others tried to calm Guo Guoqing down. I led the way while Dezi and Yuzelin followed closely behind me into a small conference room where we sat down together. Regardless of our regrets or frustrations now that things had happened, it was pointless; what mattered now was how to deal with the outcome.
Using violence during an interrogation had always been a taboo for us detectives. If the suspect decided to pursue this matter legally, not only would Dezi face consequences, but Yuzelin would also be implicated. Moreover, if such behavior occurred during an interrogation, all evidence collected prior—including everything Guo Guoqing had said—would be dismissed as coerced confessions. All he needed was to find a lawyer willing to take his case against Dezi.
Additionally, when we left, Guo Guoqing had already threatened Dezi with this very issue. It made me wonder if he had planned this out as well. If something like this happened during the interrogation process, he might demand medical attention outside; if that occurred, he could easily escape. Although he had allowed himself to be captured by us intentionally, it didn't mean he wouldn't arrange for other matters.
Yuzelin slowly spoke up, "Dezi, you were too impulsive. After this incident, Guo Guoqing will likely try to make something out of it. I think it's very possible he'll request to leave here. He's been here for two days and nights; even an iron man would struggle under such conditions."
"During his time here," I added on Yuzelin's point, "he hasn't been able to contact anyone outside. If he wants to ensure his plans proceed smoothly without deviation, he might take advantage of this time to escape. If that's the case, perhaps we can transfer him to a detention center nearby."
"This is a crisis but perhaps also an opportunity," I concluded.
Yuzelin nodded and said cautiously, "Are you really considering taking this step? You should know it's dangerous—not just for Guo Guoqing but for us too; if one step goes wrong, it could lead to serious consequences!"
I sighed and said, "If we continue to drag this out with Guo Guoqing, who knows what he might do next? The situation with Juan Juan and Mary is a signal. He is likely to keep orchestrating such scenarios, and while we managed to turn the tide at the last moment this time, what about in the future? Will we be able to do that again?"
Taking this action was a decision we had no choice but to make. I had thought about it long ago but had never acted on it until now, and I felt a lingering unease. Faced with someone like Guo Guoqing, we naturally had to resort to some unconventional methods; otherwise, we would not stand a chance against this Demon Boy.
Yuzelin heard my words and sighed as well before saying, "If that's the case, let's arrange it this way. It's better for fewer people to know about this matter, so I'll go make the necessary arrangements now."
I nodded and turned to Dezi. "Dezi, you should avoid appearing in front of Guo Guoqing for a while. It's best if you keep a low profile. Last time, I only hit someone during an arrest, and it ended up online. If the truth hadn't come out in the end, I would still be caught up in public opinion."
Dezi was angry but understood that the situation had indeed been handled somewhat carelessly. Hearing my words, Dezi nodded without saying anything further. I then told Yuzelin and Dezi, "Now I'm going to check on Guo Guoqing's situation. Old Yu, you proceed with our planned actions."
We split up; I instructed Dezi to go back and calm down while Yuzelin arranged our previous plans. As for me, I needed to see how Guo Guoqing was doing and what his next move would be—whether he would exploit Dezi's situation for his own purposes.
I arrived at the interrogation room where a doctor was disinfecting Guo Guoqing's wounds. His eyes were swollen from being punched by Dezi, and there were bloodstains all over the floor. It seemed that Dezi had been quite ruthless, but he certainly hadn't gone too far; otherwise, Guo Guoqing wouldn't be here now.
As the doctor cleaned his wounds, she said to me, "The current situation is quite concerning. We can handle Guo Guoqing's external injuries, but he has bleeding from the corner of his mouth—not from inside his mouth. If that's the case, it could indicate internal bleeding. We need to take him to the hospital for an internal CT scan!"
"You all really are something; how could you lay such heavy hands on a child? I wonder who did this. If it were up to me, people like that should just be fired!"
I felt helpless but remained silent. This doctor didn't know what Guo Guoqing had done; she didn't realize that this boy was known as the Demon Boy. She didn't know that at eight years old, he had personally killed his own parents or that by twelve, he had murdered four girls younger than him.
Of course, ignorance is bliss, but I couldn't be bothered to explain it to her. In reality, what you see in this world may not necessarily reflect the truth; what you believe to be real could very well be false. Yet often, people only wish to see the world they want to see and use their assumptions to interpret it.
I simply said, "Isn't it possible that Guo Guoqing has internal injuries?"
As soon as I finished speaking, I heard Guo Guoqing say to the female doctor, "Sister, my stomach really hurts! That brother hit me here earlier; it hurts so much!"
Guo Guoqing pointed at his stomach, displaying a pitiful expression.
The female doctor shot me a cold glance before saying, "You heard that too. I can't rule out that Guo Guoqing has internal injuries without further examination at the hospital."
In this regard, the female doctor had more authority than I did. Even though I was the leader of the Special Investigation Team, I had to defer to her expertise. Hearing this, I could only say to her, "You need to understand why he, at such a young age, ended up here and is being interrogated by us. Sometimes, you can't judge a person by their appearance, do you understand?"
Although I tried to remind the female doctor with good intentions, it was futile. She clearly believed Guo Guoqing's words more than mine, and there was nothing I could do about it. I had no choice but to call in a few officers from the Police Department for assistance. The designated hospital by the Police Department was the People's Hospital, and we needed to take Guo Guoqing there for a comprehensive examination. At the same time, we had to stay close to him to prevent any chance of escape.
Guo Guoqing got into the doctor's car while I and several officers from the Police Department took another vehicle. As we got in, I noticed Guo Guoqing giving us an indescribable smile. I said to the officers from the Police Department, "I have a strong feeling that Guo Guoqing is doing this on purpose. He might try to escape on the way, so everyone stay alert."
Everyone nodded in agreement as the cars started moving. There were also two officers in the doctor's car, so dealing with Guo Guoqing shouldn't be an issue. However, I couldn't afford to let my guard down; after all, Guo Guoqing was known as the Demon Boy. We couldn't be careless in this situation.
The People's Hospital was about half an hour's drive from the Police Department. In that short time, I hoped Guo Guoqing wouldn't attempt anything reckless.
Our hearts were anxious, but everything seemed stable until about twenty minutes into our journey when suddenly a large truck sped toward us from a distance and veered sharply between our vehicle and the doctor's car, forcing us apart.
