The heavy smell of gasoline mixed with the acrid scent of blood filled the air, as if the world had turned into an out-of-control machine, the noise and chaos stimulating every nerve in Xiaoxiao's body.
A sharp pain surged through her lower abdomen, and her consciousness began to fade. A self-deprecating smile forced its way onto her pale face: Is this what you call love, Ye Cheng?
How ridiculous; in the end, even making a phone call had become a luxury... Xiaoxiao struggled to rise from the ground but found herself powerless. A childish voice echoed in her ears: "Mommy, don't be afraid. Baby will always be by your side..."
Though she was on a bustling street, it felt as if she were in a desolate wilderness, despair and fear consuming her. Suddenly, warm hands lifted her from the ground. Xiaoxiao fought to open her heavy eyelids, but all she saw was a completely unfamiliar face.
He had deep eyes like the night sky, his expression stern, exuding an aura that warned others to keep their distance.
With swift movements, he placed her into a black sedan. His deep, magnetic voice whispered in her ear, "Don't be afraid; I will help you."
The car sped away from the scene of the accident like an arrow released from a bow, leaving chaos and noise far behind. Before Xiaoxiao could get a good look at his face, she slipped into unconsciousness.
---
When she woke again, she found herself in a well-equipped private hospital, the air filled with the scent of disinfectant. Xiaoxiao struggled to sit up but realized her entire body ached with weakness, and there was still a dull pain in her abdomen. Looking down at her white hospital gown, the slight bulge of her belly reminded her that the child was still there.
"You’re awake?"
A deep male voice sounded beside her. Xiaoxiao turned to see a tall stranger sitting in a chair by her bed, flipping through a newspaper. Upon hearing her stir, he slowly raised his head.
He had neatly cropped hair and sharp facial features that radiated an indescribable authority. In his deep-set eyes lay countless untold stories.
Xiaoxiao frowned slightly and asked warily, "Who are you? Where is this? How did I end up here?"
The man set down the newspaper in his hands, leaning slightly forward with his hands casually resting on his knees. In a calm tone, he said, "This is a private hospital. My name is Lin Feng, and I am your... friend. You were in a car accident, and I brought you here."
Friend? Xiaoxiao struggled to recall any memory of this man, but her mind was blank. She shook her head and replied firmly, "I don’t know you. Why did you save me?"
Lin Feng chuckled lightly, seemingly unfazed by her reaction. He stood up and walked to the window, turning his back to Xiaoxiao. His tone carried a hint of amusement as he said, "You don’t need to know who I am; you only need to know that our goals are aligned."
"Aligned goals?" Xiaoxiao was even more confused as she struggled to sit up. "What exactly do you mean?"
Lin Feng turned around and approached the bedside, gently placing a pillow behind her back to help her sit up. He handed her a cup of warm water and calmly asked, "Do you want revenge?"
Xiaoxiao froze. Revenge? The word struck her like lightning, hitting the softest part of her heart.
Images of Ye Cheng's hypocritical smile flashed in her mind, along with the cold gazes of Ye Cheng's family and the terrifying moments of the accident.
Trembling, Xiaoxiao took the cup with shaky hands and drank a sip. The cold liquid slid down her throat but could not extinguish the fire of anger within her.
"What... do you know?" Xiaoxiao asked hoarsely, her gaze fixed intently on Lin Feng.
A subtle smile played at the corners of Lin Feng's mouth as he revealed a knowing expression. "I know more than you can imagine." He paused before adding firmly, "I will help you, but you must agree to one condition."
Xiaoxiao took a deep breath, trying to calm her racing emotions. "What condition?"
"I want you to sever all ties with the the Ye Cheng Family," Lin Feng stated clearly, his gaze sharp as a blade. "Are you willing?"
Xiaoxiao set down the cup of water, her gaze gradually becoming resolute, a cold smile curving at the corners of her lips. "I am willing."
