On a weekend morning, Mo Yanyu and Xingxing prepared to embark on an intimate journey with nature. Mo Yanyu carefully selected a scenic forest park on the outskirts as their destination, hoping that this trip would deepen Xingxing's understanding and interest in the natural world.
After breakfast, Mo Yanyu checked the equipment they were carrying: a backpack filled with food and water, a field guidebook introducing local plants and animals, and a pair of binoculars for children. Xingxing was responsible for bringing her favorite toys and a sketchbook, and she happily surrounded Mo Yanyu, helping to check if everything was complete.
"Uncle Mo, what animals will we see today?" Xingxing asked curiously as he hopped along.
"We might see some birds, squirrels, and many different plants. If we're lucky, we might even see some deer," Mo Yanyu replied with a smile, his voice filled with anticipation.
Before leaving, they specifically went to see Lele because this trip was not suitable for bringing the little dog. Mo Yanyu comforted Lele and promised to bring back delicious food for it when they returned home.
Setting off on the journey, the car weaved through the streets of the city and gradually entered the quieter outskirts. Along the way, the lush scenery made Xingxing unable to resist pressing their face against the car window, curiously observing the outside world.
Upon reaching their destination, Mo Yanyu and Xingxing got off the car and took a deep breath of fresh air. Under the blue sky and white clouds, a lush forest welcomed them. They began their hiking journey, with Mo Yanyu leading Xingxing along the forest path, observing the natural scenery around them as they walked.
"Uncle Mo, what kind of flower is that?" Xingxing pointed to a peculiar flower by the roadside, asking curiously.
Mo Yanyu Bending down, carefully observing the flower, and then opening the wilderness guide he brought, searching for relevant information. "This is a wild iris, it blooms in spring and is very beautiful."
They walked along the winding path, surrounded by dense trees and various bird calls. Xingxing held a small notebook and colored pencils, ready to record everything she discovered at any time. Mo Yanyu carried a telescope and some reference books for better observation and interpretation.
When they encountered a strangely shaped tree, Star curiously asked, "Uncle Mo, why does this tree look so strange?" Mo Yanyu squatted down, eye-level with Star, and pointed to the spots and twisted branches on the trunk, saying, "This is an old tree. Its unique shape is the result of enduring many years of wind and rain. Each mark tells its story." Star, filled with amazement, earnestly sketched the tree's shape in her notebook.
Shortly after, they discovered a group of leisurely foraging squirrels. Excitedly, Star grabbed Mo Yanyu's hand and whispered, "Look, Uncle Mo, there are squirrels over there!" Mo Yanyu smiled, took out a telescope, adjusted the focus, and handed it to Star so she could observe the adorable little animals more clearly. Star took the telescope, observed with delight, and then added a few sketches of the squirrels in her little notebook.
On the way, they also encountered various birds and butterflies. Each time, Mo Yanyu patiently told Xingxing the names of these creatures and some interesting features. For Xingxing, this was not only an opportunity to observe nature, but also more like a lively biology class.
In the process, Mo Yanyu deeply felt the joy of exploring nature with Xingxing. He discovered that through the eyes of a child, one can find more beauty that is usually overlooked. Xingxing showed astonishment and joy at every new discovery, and this innocent reaction also made Mo Yanyu's mood particularly relaxed and happy.
In the lush green nature, Mo Yanyu and Xingxing found a shady spot under a big tree and decided to have their lunch there. The lunch prepared by Mo Yanyu in advance was simple but full of thoughtfulness: there were Xingxing's favorite strawberry jam sandwiches, fresh fruit salad, and a few cookies.
Xingxing sat on the soft grass, holding a sandwich in his small hand, his eyes forming crescents as he happily said, "Uncle Mo, the sandwich you made is really delicious!" Mo Yanyu watched Xingxing eat with relish, feeling a warm sensation in his heart.
After dinner, Xingxing couldn't wait to take out her sketchbook and colored pencils, and began to draw everything she had seen today in the nature reserve. She first drew the oddly shaped old tree, and then her favorite group of squirrels. Every time she turned to a new page, she would excitedly show Mo Yanyu and ask, "Uncle Mo, how does this drawing look?"
Mo Yanyu patiently looked at each drawing, giving Xingxing advice and encouragement: "You've captured the shape of this tree very well, but the shadows here could be darker to give it more depth." Xingxing listened to Mo Yanyu's advice and earnestly made the adjustments. Although her drawing skills were still very basic, each effort made her work more vivid.
Mo Yanyu deeply feels the joy of being with the stars. He originally thought he was simply accompanying a child to paint, but he didn't expect that in this process, he also rediscovered the subtle beauty in life. The stars are full of curiosity and enthusiasm for every little thing, and this attitude infects Mo Yanyu, making his mood more relaxed and joyful.
As the afternoon sun gradually slants, they tidy up their painting tools and lunch boxes. As the sun sets in the west, a day of nature's journey is also coming to an end. Mo Yanyu and Xingxing pack up their things and prepare to return home. On the way back, Xingxing leans on Mo Yanyu's shoulder and says softly, "Uncle Mo, I had a great time today, and I learned a lot."
Looking at Xingxing's satisfied little face, Mo Yanyu is filled with joy. "Yes, Uncle Mo is very happy too. In the future, we will have more trips like this."
This weekend's nature trip not only deepened Xingxing's understanding and interest in nature, but also strengthened her relationship with Uncle Mo. Through firsthand experience and learning, their lives became more colorful, creating unforgettable memories together.
As the car slowly entered the street in front of their home, Mo Yanyu and Xingxing were filled with nostalgia for this trip. Home, a place filled with love and warmth, welcomed their new stories.
Once home, Lele excitedly greeted them, wagging its tail like a non-stop fan, seemingly complaining about why they didn't take it along. Star lay down and hugged Lele tightly, soothingly saying, "Good boy, Lele, next time we will definitely take you with us."
Mo Yanyu put down the backpack and took out some snacks for Lele as compensation. Then, he prepared a warm bath for Star to wash away the fatigue of the day. Star played in the bathtub, occasionally emitting crisp laughter, while Mo Yanyu quietly watched beside her, feeling peaceful and content.
At dinner time, Mo Yanyu specially prepared Star's favorite meal to put a perfect end to this trip. At the dinner table, they shared their feelings and what they had learned. Star even excitedly showed her drawing, which depicted the scenery of the countryside, peculiar plants, and her vision of Lele.
"Uncle Mo, when can we go on an adventure again?" Star asked eagerly while eating.
"At any time, as long as the stars want to go, Uncle Mo will accompany them," Mo Yanyu replied gently, his eyes firm and full of promises for the future.
After dinner, Mo Yanyu and the stars sat together in the living room, and Mo Yanyu read a storybook about nature to the stars. Through these stories, he hoped to further inspire the stars' curiosity and love for the natural world.
When night falls, everything becomes quiet, and the stars have entered dreamland. Mo Yanyu gently tucks her in, then walks to the window, gazing at the starry sky outside, filled with gratitude and hope. He knows that every day spent with the stars is a precious treasure, and this weekend natural journey they shared is a beautiful memory that will be forever engraved in their hearts.
In this loving and explorative little family, Mo Yanyu and the stars' lives are filled with color and laughter.
