"Madam, do you need assistance?" A voice called from outside the house.
"No need, everyone step back. This was an accident!" Liu Qing said as she opened the door and addressed the crowd. Upon seeing that there was no sign of a struggle inside, only Xiao Yefeng examining something in front of the display case, it was clear that the alarm had been triggered by this man's unintentional touch. The bodyguards dispersed, leaving just the three of them in the courtyard once again.
As Liu Qing closed the door, her expression turned to one of surprise as she looked at Xiao Yefeng holding the ancient mirror. In his hands, the mirror spun rapidly with a pair of Yin-Yang Fish on its back, while the front side, featuring a Bagua Diagram, emitted a long-lost glow.
At that moment, Liu Qing's memories surged back. She recalled a man with a pale complexion and bloodstained clothing who had entrusted her with the ancient mirror before disappearing from her radar entirely. The only connection she had left to him was this mirror.
Xiao Yefeng, unaware of Liu Qing's thoughts, could only express his excitement with one word: surprise. The palm-sized ancient mirror he held was one of the three treasures lost by his family—the Bagua Mirror.
What appeared to be just an ancient mirror was actually a Bagua Mirror. As Xiao Yefeng's palm touched the Tai Chi Yin-Yang Fish on its back, they stopped spinning. The smooth surface of the mirror revealed the faint outline of the Bagua Diagram within. When Xiao Yefeng gently stroked the mirror's surface, the Bagua Diagram vanished, restoring it to its smooth, water-like appearance. As he touched the side of the copper mirror, the Yin-Yang Fish clicked and retracted, revealing a thumb-sized indentation beneath it.
At that moment, under Liu Qing's expectant gaze, Xiao Yefeng unhesitatingly extended his finger toward the indentation. Click! A mechanism activated, causing blood to flow from his fingertip. As his blood dripped down, the opening Yin-Yang Fish returned to their original position, and a yellowish light filled the room. An ancient seal character—Xiao—appeared on top of the Bagua Mirror.
"You... you are Xiao Wen's son, aren't you?" Liu Qing exclaimed, covering her mouth to stifle her surprise before asking in astonishment.
As the light faded away, Xiao Yefeng looked at the Bagua Mirror in his hand and then turned to Liu Qing. Carefully placing the Bagua Mirror on the table, he sat down again and said, "Lady Liu, that's right. I am Xiao Wen's son. I have a question for you: why is our long-lost Bagua Mirror in your home?"
"Indeed, it is just as I thought. Xiao Wen, did I owe you something? For you, I have suffered greatly. Now you send your son to change my daughter's fate—what a twisted fate!" Liu Qing forced an awkward smile as she spoke to herself.
"I must be getting old; you look so much like him! Although your behavior is different, I didn't notice your heroic spirit until now. Xiao Wen... for your father’s sake I fell into despair; who would have thought that it would be you—Xiao Wen's son—who would rescue me? This is truly karma! "Lady Liu, so you knew my father," Xiao Yefeng asked.
"Not just knowing each other, if it weren't for the fact that I almost became your mother, would you believe it?" Liu Qing turned, her gaze lingering, her beautiful eyes filled with memories.
"Uh! This! I believe!" Xiao Yefeng replied firmly after a moment of hesitation.
"Haha, I almost forgot that the men in your family can inherit some deeply etched memories. I believe it; I am confident that I can occupy a place in your father's memories, even if it's just for a fleeting moment," Liu Qing said with a smile.
In fact, Xiao Yefeng had indeed seen the young Liu Qing in the memory unlocked by the Bagua Mirror. At twenty, Liu Qing was as stunningly beautiful as Liu Yiyi. However, the memory was just a brief glimpse, yet it was enough to prove Liu Qing's significance in her father's heart. After all, in the inheritance of memories, aside from the important ones, the inheritor retains a small portion of special memories from the previous generation. After Xiao Yefeng's grandfather read Liu Qing's father's fortune and helped him avoid disaster, the Xiao family stayed with the Liu family for a while. During this time, the two children became childhood playmates.
For some unknown reason, after living there for a year, Xiao Yefeng's grandfather insisted on leaving. Thus, the playmates parted ways. Time flew by; years passed quickly. While studying at university, Liu Qing unexpectedly encountered Xiao Wen and learned that his father had just passed away. In this reunion after a long separation, fate brought them together again and sparked a sweet romance.
Young Xiao Wen was handsome and charming, excelling in every aspect. The two quickly fell in love. When Liu Qing's father learned of their relationship, he did not oppose it. They enjoyed an unforgettable college life together. However, trouble arose when they decided to marry after graduation. One day while walking in the park, they were surrounded by a group of five men.
Liu Qing's last memory was of one man with tattoos on his wrist reaching out toward her. When she woke up again, she found herself at home and learned that she had been left at her doorstep and discovered by patrolling bodyguards.
After dismissing all the servants who cared for her, Liu Qing found a note hidden in her underwear. The note was written on yellow phosphorus paper that Xiao Wen always carried with him. The hurried handwriting indicated that he had been pressed for time when he wrote it. The note read:
"Liu Qing, I've left. Don't ask why; my enemies have come. Anyone related to me will die. Perhaps we will meet again; however, when we do reunite, it will be amidst calamity. I look forward to that moment but also fear it—Xiao Wen."
After reading it, the paper was swept away by the wind, turning into a pile of ashes. The yellow phosphorus paper ignited instantly upon contact with the air, marking the end of Liu Qing's youthful memories. For the next ten years, Xiao Wen vanished like a ghost, and even Liu Qing's father could not find him.
In those ten years, Liu Qing transformed from a young woman in her twenties into a mature lady. Eventually, she married a man who had pursued her for a decade, the same man who had been striving for the Liu Family ever since.
However, fifteen years ago, on a crisp autumn morning, a filthy Xiao Wen knocked on the door of Liu Qing's temporary residence. Without much conversation, Xiao Wen handed her a pristine Bagua Mirror from his embrace. When Liu Qing pressed for answers, Xiao Wen simply said, "You are destined to be childless. Go out and take a stroll; perhaps you can adopt a child that suits your heart. Keep this ancient mirror for me; one day its true owner will come to claim it. At that time, someone will help me repay my debts."
Just as Liu Qing was about to ask more questions, Xiao Wen had already disappeared. All that remained was the ancient mirror, still warm from his touch. Once again, Xiao Wen's whereabouts were lost to her. The next news she received was of Xiao Wen and his wife dying tragically at the same time. Unfortunately, at that moment, Xiao Yefeng was taken away by a distant cousin, missing yet another chance to meet Liu Qing.
According to Liu Qing's recollection, when she arrived at the scene, there were only bloodstains on the ground. The remains of Xiao Wen and his wife had already been collected by the distant cousin. Thus, Liu Qing lost all traces of Xiao Wen.
