Mo Fei's motorcycle was incredibly fast, quickly catching up to Hong Yan's vehicle. Eventually, at a fork in the road, the two vehicles split, one going left and the other right.
"Young Master, should we follow them?" the driver asked, watching the motorcycle disappear into the distance.
"No need! I already know that man's identity. I didn't expect this brother to be quite familiar with someone from their group. Let's go to the hotel where Sister Liu is staying!" Hong Yan replied, and the driver drove away.
Meanwhile, inside the hotel, Liu Yiyi was anxiously pacing back and forth. For someone as unwell as Liu Yiyi, this was quite a significant event. After all, her health was poor, and any intense activity would make her feel uncomfortable. However, Xiao Yefeng had not replied to her messages, and Hong Yan had not given her any updates about the duel. She still had no news.
How could she not worry? Just then, her phone buzzed with a text message. She quickly opened it to find that it was from Xiao Yefeng. The message was short, just a few words: "Victory, don't worry!"
Those four words were like a key that unlocked her heart, instantly easing Liu Yiyi's tense mood. It felt as if her body had also improved. At that moment, Liu Yiyi was so overwhelmed with emotion that she wanted to cry. Yet she couldn't quite understand what feelings she had for Xiao Yefeng—was it gratitude? Or love? She couldn't help but compare Xiao Yefeng's figure with that of another person who had long been absent from her life.
However, comparing the real Xiao Yefeng with the shadow of that other person made Liu Yiyi shake her head vigorously to dispel those thoughts. Ever since Xiao Yefeng's true identity had been revealed, he had taken care of her meticulously. Although he couldn't attend to every detail, he handled every major event. Meanwhile, that other person hadn't contacted her in a long time.
Liu Yiyi dared not make comparisons because she feared that person's shadow would fade away completely. She regarded Xiao Yefeng as an older brother figure. Looking at her phone again, she hesitated but ultimately decided to call that other person.
After scrolling through her contacts, she finally found his number tucked away in a corner. With excitement bubbling inside her, Liu Yiyi dialed the number, eager to share her joy with him—even though their encounters had been fleeting.
The phone rang as a young man in his twenties sat in a luxurious villa in Beijing North. He picked up his phone and raised an eyebrow upon seeing the caller ID. "Hello, Sister Liu? Is there something you need at this late hour?" he asked.
Hearing his voice made Liu Yiyi nervous and flustered. After taking a deep breath to calm herself, she replied, "Brother Lu! I'm fine."
"Oh! The Liu family has been experiencing good fortune lately, and there's no indication that anyone is using any supernatural means against you," came the man's voice from the other end.
"Oh, that's good to hear. I won't disturb your rest any longer," Liu Yiyi said quickly before hanging up. Her face was already flushed with embarrassment.
Meanwhile, back at the luxurious villa in Beijing North, the young man sat on an opulent sofa with an indescribable smile on his face. His expression held many layers of meaning as he looked at a stack of documents laid out before him. At the top was information about Xiao Yefeng. The man picked up Xiao Yefeng's file and examined it closely before taking out his personal seal and stamping it on the document.
After stamping it, he stood up and gazed out through the floor-to-ceiling windows at the moonlit night sky. He muttered to himself, "Has someone from the Xiao family finally appeared? It seems they have unlocked their ancestral memories; a new era is about to begin!"
Amidst the roar of motorcycles, Xiao Yefeng and Mo Fei arrived at a small restaurant on the outskirts of Beijing North. In truth, calling it a restaurant was generous; it only had a simple grill and four tables. At this moment, three tables were already occupied by patrons while a Lame Man busily grilled various skewers of meat—a typical roadside barbecue stall.
This place was ordinary yet warm; amidst a world filled with greed and desire for wealth, it offered a sense of tranquility. Mo Fei seemed quite familiar with it as he patted the Lame Man on the shoulder and said, "Old Seven, give me four pieces of grilled meat—make sure it's one pound each!"
The Lame Man clearly recognized Mo Fei. Upon seeing him, he said, "Hey! It's been a while since you last came. Don't worry! I guarantee the barbecue will make your mouth water!"
Soon after, Xiao Yefeng and Mo Fei settled at the last empty table. Not long after, four fragrant pieces of grilled meat were personally brought over by the man. Just as he had promised, the aroma was so enticing that it made their fingers itch. Each piece of meat weighed about a pound and was already cut into large chunks, prompting Xiao Yefeng, who was already a bit hungry, to dig in first.
It was somewhat unusual for two big men to sit at a barbecue stall eating meat without drinking alcohol, but this had become a habit for Xiao Yefeng and Mo Fei. They were both former mercenaries who rarely touched alcohol; it muddled the mind and lowered alertness. As they ate, they chatted about their experiences over the past few years.
As the other three tables gradually emptied, the Lame Man tidied up and clearly recognized Mo Fei's extraordinary nature. After cleaning up, he left on his tricycle, leaving only Xiao Yefeng and Mo Fei behind.
With everyone gone, Mo Fei looked at Xiao Yefeng and asked, "How did you become skilled in Feng Shui Techniques? And with such a level of Ancient Martial Arts? Don’t tell me you found a master in prison who taught you all this!"
"Come on! Do you think that's how it works? Did I eat some miraculous elixir or something?" Xiao Yefeng replied.
They both laughed, sharing their situations. At that moment, Xiao Yefeng realized that Mo Fei had actually joined a nearly lost sect. Through hard work and dedication, he had successfully reached the Peak of Bright Strength and was now at a bottleneck; breaking through would allow him to become a Master of Hidden Strength.
"Hey, Brother Fei! You're doing well! Not only did you join the Zodiac Team of Huaxia, but you also got such a cool codename—Rogue! You seem to be living quite the adventurous life!" After learning about Mo Fei's situation, Xiao Yefeng joked.
"Please! I'm not as good as you! I originally planned to teach you a few moves so we could team up! Who knew you'd turn into a Geomancer? I didn't expect to be left behind when we met again!" Mo Fei said as he took a hearty bite of grilled meat.
The two brothers enjoyed their meal and drinks. After leaving behind a few Hundred Dollar Bills, Mo Fei escorted Xiao Yefeng back to the hotel. Just as they were about to part ways at the entrance, a series of beeps from a communicator made both of them stop in their tracks. Picking up their phones, Mo Fei glanced at the screen and froze!
Seeing Mo Fei's reaction, Xiao Yefeng asked, "What's wrong?"
"Is it possible that we brothers are destined to meet? Look at this—it’s happening! If we don’t meet today, we’ll definitely meet tomorrow!" Mo Fei tossed his phone to Xiao Yefeng.
Taking the phone, Xiao Yefeng saw a message that read: "Tomorrow at ten in the morning, pick up Xiao Yefeng for the initiation ceremony." It also included details about the hotel where Xiao Yefeng was staying.
Upon seeing this message, Xiao Yefeng was taken aback but then smiled and said, "It seems our brotherhood cannot be severed. But do all new members get picked up by you guys every time?"
"Well, sort of. Members of the Metaphysics Society are considered the backbone of Huaxia regardless of their cultivation level. We can think of ourselves as bodyguards for these Geomancers—just like before when we were Machine Gunners responsible for cover! This is my first time receiving this task; they probably noticed my position and figured since I’m close to you, I should be the one to pick you up!" Mo Fei explained.
At this point in their conversation, Xiao Yefeng suddenly recalled something Mei Yulou had once said to him. So he asked, "Is it true that there are two factions within the Metaphysics Society?"
"You know too?" Xiao Yefeng's words caught Mo Fei off guard.
"Yes, I heard it from Old Master Mei," Xiao Yefeng replied.
"Let's consider it healthy competition. I suggest you, brother, choose to become an external member like me. Don't accept favors from either side, but also don't offend anyone. However, this can be a bit tricky; you might end up offending both."
"The relationship between the Ancient Warrior and the Geomancer isn't that harmonious. The Geomancer is physically weak yet possesses incredible power, while the Ancient Warrior is strong but can't withstand the schemes of someone like the Geomancer. Plus, both Vice Presidents are recruiting their own forces, and there’s discord within the Metaphysics Society as well. Anyway, I'll come to pick you up later; something seems off this time. It's rare for us outsiders to be called in like this." With that, Mo Fei rode off on his motorcycle.
Meanwhile, outside the hotel, three groups were already watching Xiao Yefeng. Mo Fei's departure was quickly reported to their superiors by two of the groups.
"Cao Lao! Li Lao! Xiao Yefeng has appeared, but he was brought back by a Rogue!" The spies from both sides reported almost simultaneously.
"Hmm? A Rogue?" Both elders responded in unison.
"Should we make contact with this Xiao Yefeng?" the spies inquired.
"No need! Everyone come back!" The two groups were positioned differently, and the two elders were in separate locations, yet their words were astonishingly aligned at that moment.
At this point, both Li Lao and Cao Lao were taken aback. Indeed, experience speaks volumes; after struggling against each other for so long, they hadn't expected that the President would resolve everything directly by having the Rogue contact Xiao Yefeng. They both assumed it was the President's method to ease the awkwardness between them, unaware that Mo Fei and Xiao Yefeng already knew each other.
