The call ended, and Xiao Yefeng had gathered all the information from Yuan Xun. Indeed, Yuan Xun was affiliated with Perfect World, and Xiao Yefeng's suspicions were confirmed; the new force was closely related to Perfect World. Although he couldn't extract more information from Yuan Xun, he learned that Yuan Xun was one of the executors of a plan.
Moreover, Jin Ling's arrival here was also orchestrated by Yuan Xun. As for the reason, Yuan Xun didn't know; it was simply an order from above. Regarding Zhang Chuanhai's concerns about Yuan Xun's life and death, Jiang Xing only said one thing: "Those not of our kind must have different intentions."
Zhang Chuanhai had avenged his great grievance, yet Jin Ling had become his obsession once again. He wanted to know from Jin Ling whether she had any patriotic feelings, so Zhang Chuanhai chose to continue waiting.
After everything was resolved, Xiao Yefeng decided to rest for the night in the hospital. The next day, he planned to take a risk alone and head to Holy Spirit Village. Xiao Yefeng intended to confront the perilous Fierce God Gorge and meet the mysterious figure hidden in the shadows. Additionally, the village chief of Holy Spirit Village was someone that the Metaphysics Society needed to capture.
Although Lin Mighty Tiger was highly skilled in his tiger fist techniques, he was still not adept at handling supernatural matters. If it weren't for the talisman modified by Xiao Yefeng, Lin Mighty Tiger would not have been able to subdue Utu so easily. Moreover, for an Ancient Warrior to deal with ghosts effortlessly, they would need to reach the Peak of Bright Strength. At that level, an Ancient Warrior could channel their internal energy to their skin, effectively blocking ghostly attacks and being able to harm them at any time without relying on a talisman like Lin Mighty Tiger did.
The next morning, after packing his belongings, Xiao Yefeng set off alone in a car towards Holy Spirit Village. Unfortunately, the vehicle could only stop at the outskirts of the mountains; he would have to walk the rest of the way himself. Fortunately, with Utu's guidance as a native Earth Dweller, Xiao Yefeng found the most suitable path without needing to check maps. However, as he ventured deeper into the mountains, he couldn't help but marvel at how this place truly was a treasure land.
The mountains resembled jade plates with clouds and water flowing gracefully—a scene full of vitality. Unlike other places, here one could see auspicious sites everywhere. Setting aside transportation issues, there were no less than a dozen locations where wind and water converged; living here for a long time would surely refresh one's spirit.
Finding a good location for feng shui could lead to longevity; good feng shui could uplift residents' spirits and improve their health naturally. Generally speaking, places with good feng shui were often rich in Earth Spirit Energy. Therefore, cultivating in such areas would yield faster results in both Martial Arts Cultivation and technique training compared to ordinary locations.
After crossing a ridge resembling a green dragon drinking water, guided by Utu, Xiao Yefeng finally arrived at the edge of Holy Spirit Village. No wonder this place could evade modern civilization; if it weren't for those who enjoyed hiking, who could find it?
Standing atop the ridge, Xiao Yefeng looked down at the entire architectural complex of Holy Spirit Village when he suddenly noticed something strange. Taking out the Black Gold Spirit Banner from his backpack, he silently recited a spell. With a flicker of golden cyan light from his fingertips, Utu appeared on the Soul Banner's surface. At that moment, protected by the Black Gold Spirit Banner, even under the blazing sun, Utu—the water ghost—had nothing to fear.
"Master!" No matter how Xiao Yefeng tried to explain it away, Utu continued calling him Master. Having grown accustomed to it over time made it less bothersome for Xiao Yefeng; however, deep down he still resisted this title since he had previously thought that so-called masters were merely frauds. Now that he experienced it firsthand, he realized that his past feelings were just ignorance without fear.
"Utu, are the houses in your village built at random?" Xiao Yefeng frowned as he observed the scene below.
"Well, not exactly. Actually, our village's houses are quite limited. Since I can remember, there have only been renovations of Bamboo Houses; no new houses have ever been built. Each renovation is personally overseen by the village chief," Utu replied after some thought.
Upon hearing Utu's words, Xiao Yefeng understood better and couldn't help but exclaim: "No wonder! I wondered why it was like this; it turns out it was intentionally constructed this way."
"Master, what do you mean?" Utu was puzzled as to why Xiao Yefeng would ask such a question.
"You've lived in your village for so long, haven't you noticed that the shape of your village is quite interesting?" Xiao Yefeng asked.
"I haven't noticed. Our ancestors have lived this way for generations," Utu replied.
At that moment, Xiao Yefeng once again stood on a protruding cliff on the hill, holding the Black Gold Spirit Banner and pointing down at Holy Spirit Village. "Look here, what do you think your Holy Spirit Village resembles?"
From the vantage point atop the hill, one could see that there weren't many buildings in Holy Spirit Village; however, they were arranged with great attention to rules. Five large Bamboo Houses jutted out like the claws of a fierce beast, while the scattered Bamboo Houses, if outlined by lines, formed the shape of a gigantic head. There was also a body and a high-hanging tail. All these images needed to be etched in one's mind before being sketched in three dimensions.
Although it was unclear what fierce beast the layout of Holy Spirit Village represented, it was evident from the three-dimensional view that it must be something ominous. Traditional Chinese architecture places great importance on feng shui; all old-style buildings must be well-aligned and absolutely unacceptable if they possess even a hint of bad feng shui.
This cluster of buildings was particularly crucial. In the past, anyone wanting to build a new house had to hire a geomancer to determine the location, orientation, and entrance position—each aspect held significance. Villages and mountain strongholds were built according to local conditions, but there was one absolute rule: the overall shape must not present a site of great misfortune. At this moment, Holy Spirit Village was a prime example of such a site.
The terrain here was inherently poor, nestled between two mountains with cliffs all around—a notorious feng shui trap known as "cutting off luck." The beast-like shape of the land further indicated danger; with threats above and beasts below, those living here certainly faced little good fortune. Most likely, they were subject to what is known as the "three tragedies" in life: losing one's father in childhood, losing one's wife in middle age, and losing one's child in old age.
Without needing to investigate further, Xiao Yefeng confidently asserted that every household in this village must be incomplete. He directly asked Utu, "Is it true that there are no families with both young and old members in your village?"
"Master, how did you know? Our village is just like that; every household is incomplete, and whenever someone is born, someone else dies," Utu replied.
"Let's go; we should enter the village," Xiao Yefeng said as he carefully put away the Soul Banner and began descending the mountain.
After winding through several paths under Utu's guidance, they arrived at the entrance of Holy Spirit Village. Indeed, Holy Spirit Village had an ancient charm to it. If not for all the strange occurrences happening here, it would truly resemble a paradise hidden from the world; however, danger often lurked beneath safety.
Xiao Yefeng found himself at the village entrance alone and had already been noticed by the villagers. This time, unlike before when he received a warm welcome from others, as soon as he attempted to inquire about something, everyone gathered at the entrance vanished—some hid away while others ran off. Even the children who had been playing nearby were swiftly taken away by their families. In an instant, only Xiao Yefeng remained at the entrance.
The cool mountain breeze swept through, and Xiao Yefeng felt a hint of chill. His peculiar Yin-Yang Eye remained active, so he wore his sunglasses, dressed in a camouflage bodysuit, and topped it off with a large sun hat. At first glance, he resembled a traveler, yet the atmosphere in Holy Spirit Village was anything but welcoming.
Step by step, he ascended the stone steps leading into the village. Inside this ancient settlement, there was only a narrow stone path, flanked by wildflowers that bloomed vibrantly, adding color to the surroundings. However, Xiao Yefeng had no interest in admiring the scenery; if he remembered correctly, this path resembled the spine of a fierce beast depicted in an old illustration.
Since entering the village, Xiao Yefeng sensed that the Bagua Mirror in his camouflage jacket's inner pocket was reacting. The Yin-Yang Fish on his back trembled continuously, indicating that he had entered a formation. Fortunately, this formation posed no threat or had not been activated.
With no one around, Xiao Yefeng quickly arrived at the tallest building in the village—a three-story main house. According to Utu's directions, this was the residence of the village chief, Uchi. He wanted to enter the Fierce God Gorge behind the village and thought it best to have the chief guide him, even though Utu could lead him just as well. However, Xiao Yefeng didn't want Uchi to realize that he was familiar with the area.
"Creek, creek!" Without knocking, he heard the sound of bamboo creaking from within the Bamboo House.
Footsteps approached the door. Xiao Yefeng knocked and called out, "Is the chief home? I’ve come here hoping to explore the mountain stream behind the village!"
"Ha ha! Come in, come in!" A hearty laugh followed as a man in his forties with a scruffy beard opened the door.
Xiao Yefeng sized up Uchi while Uchi scrutinized him in return. Seeing that Xiao Yefeng was a young man in his twenties brought joy to Uchi’s heart. His last exorcism had ended poorly when someone had taken his target; it seemed likely that it had been snatched away by passing Yin Chai. Now here was another opportunity—this young man looked promising!
Uchi's heart swelled with delight at the prospect of capturing this young man's soul to complete his Ghost Summoning Technique. With that thought in mind, he chuckled and said, "Brother, you must have been startled by our villagers! Come on in and sit down; there’s been some trouble around here lately, and everyone is on edge."
With that, Uchi pulled Xiao Yefeng inside. As they entered, Xiao Yefeng feigned indifference while following Uchi into the room. It was evident that Holy Spirit Village thrived on bamboo; houses were constructed from it, and everything inside was related to bamboo—bamboo chairs, tables, and even bamboo cups for pouring water. However, Uchi's actions did not escape Xiao Yefeng's keen observation; he clearly saw what Uchi flicked into the cup while pouring water.
