Two Evil Spirits were able to resist the vortex of the Zhao Yin Gate, yet they continued to wreak havoc. Whether it was a heavy hammer or iron chains, both could alter the direction of the Zhao Yin Gate, causing four or five ghosts to slip into the ward. If it weren't for Xiao Yefeng's quick reflexes, a disaster would have occurred. Clearly, these ghosts were mere cannon fodder, aiming for the two Soul Flags that were affixed to the ceiling of the ward.
To reduce the frequency of attacks on the Zhao Yin Gate, Cao Man and Li Xiangjun chose to step out of the ward and fight amidst the ruins outside. With the two of them gone, only Xiao Yefeng remained as the last line of defense in the ward. At that moment, the two children were in a strange state; their vital signs were steadily declining, clearly on the brink of death, while the demonized Guide Spirit Child's seven souls had yet to appear.
Just then, Xiao Yefeng heard a series of incantations coming from outside: "Imperial Execution, grant clemency! Original and unarmed, I command you—summon forth the Four Generals! Go! Urgent as a law decree!"
Yin Qi surged into the room like rivers flowing into the sea. At that moment, Xiao Yefeng noticed that four Apricot Yellow Flags at each corner of the room suddenly glowed brightly, summoning four clusters of Eerie Energy within the ward. Ignoring the radiance of the Zhao Yin Gate, they rapidly coalesced into Ghost Bodies that lunged toward the two children on the bed. The remaining four individuals in the room could not remain uninvolved; Xiao Yefeng brandished his Soul-Severing Black Sword to block one Red-Clad Ghost wielding a long sword.
The other three also displayed their unique abilities: with Purple Gold Bell, Peach Wood Sword, and Gu Worm all launching attacks, they managed to keep three other Evil Spirits at bay outside the bed. However, Xiao Yefeng faced a critical situation; maintaining the existence of Zhao Yin Gate was becoming increasingly difficult. Although Qi expenditure was minimal, every time he used Zhao Yin Gate to absorb Yin souls, it consumed a portion of his Qi.
Having sustained Zhao Yin Gate for so long had already drained some Qi. At this point, Zhao Yin Gate was no longer effective; there was no reason to maintain it any longer. Just moments ago, in an effort to keep Zhao Yin Gate active, Xiao Yefeng had nearly been pierced through the throat by that Red-Clad Ghost's sword.
As he retracted Zhao Yin Gate, Xiao Yefeng swiftly moved beside the two children. With his left hand, he manifested two Spirit Talismans and passed them to them before continuing his battle with the Red-Clad Ghost while holding his Black Sword. Meanwhile, a Golden Cyan Light enveloped the bed where the two children lay; although Eerie Energy surrounded the ward, this bed became their last sanctuary.
With a sweep of his sword infused with Golden Cyan spiritual energy, he severed the lower half of the Red-Clad Ghost's Ghost Body. However, ghosts are not human; such an attack would not kill it. Seeing itself at a disadvantage, it turned to flee. At this moment, Xiao Yefeng chose not to pursue but instead retracted his Black Sword and executed a hidden strike. Taking advantage of an Evil Spirit distracted by its battle with Feng Fan, he pierced its Ghost Body with one swift stroke. Feng Fan seized this opportunity to throw a Spirit Talisman directly onto the Ghost Body; flames erupted instantly as the Evil Spirit was obliterated and vanished from sight—not truly dead but returned to its Apricot Yellow Flag as mere cannon fodder.
With one Evil Spirit lost, it became four against three. Soon after, three remaining Evil Spirits were sent back into their respective Apricot Yellow Flags. However, before they could catch their breath, two waves of Yin Qi flowed along both Apricot Yellow Flags and Eight-Sided Battle Flag before surging into the room. The first targets were Feng Fan's protective Spirit Talisman and Jiang Qing's Talisman and Purple Gold Bell which were knocked to the ground.
With keen perception, Xiao Yefeng quickly recognized that these two waves of Yin Qi belonged to two already demonized Guide Spirit Children. Just as one Spirit Child leaped into the room using Eight-Sided Battle Flag as a springboard, an unexpected change occurred—the two entities merged into one Qi and flowed into an Apricot Yellow Flag. The four previously defeated Evil Spirits suddenly revived completely—especially that yellow-clad ghost who glared fiercely at Xiao Yefeng.
"Not good! Lock down defenses; Guide Spirit Children are here!" Xiao Yefeng exclaimed.
The other three rushed back to stand guard by the children's bedside. The two swirling masses of Yin Qi in mid-air represented Guide Spirit Children whose goal was to kill their own bodies and reclaim their souls. At this moment, Xiao Yefeng faced off against these two entities while leaving four Evil Spirits for his companions.
The four Evil Spirits bore grudges against those three individuals; their reappearance only intensified their fury as they clashed violently together. This time, however, Xiao Yefeng did not attempt any sneak attacks; clearly, these two Guide Spirit Children posed a greater threat.
Standing before the children's bedside, Xiao Yefeng had become their final line of defense. Through his Yin-Yang Eye, he could see within those twisted souls—brutal and bloodthirsty—evidence enough that they had fallen into Demonic Path.
"Begone, evil spirit! Forgiveness!" Xiao Yefeng shouted, gripping his sword in his right hand while forming a hand seal with his left. His voice, infused with spiritual power, resonated through the air, causing the two swirling masses of Yin Qi enveloping the Guide Spirit Children to melt away like ice and finally reveal the two children within.
At that moment, the two Guide Spirit Children were surrounded by a crimson Eerie Energy, their innocent faces twisted in grotesque expressions. Xiao Yefeng recognized this expression well; it was one that often appeared on the faces of Mercenaries fresh from slaughter. He had worn that same look himself during his first mission, his first kill. To prevent such emotions from clouding his mind, he had wrapped himself in a facade of coldness.
"I don't care who you are! Hand over the pure souls of these two children immediately!" Xiao Yefeng demanded, glaring at the Guide Spirit Children.
"Hehe! Geomancer! Do you really think you can stop a Guide Spirit Child who has already attained eighty percent of their power?" A man's voice echoed from one of the Guide Spirit Children, though it was unclear which one spoke.
"Stubborn and unyielding!" Xiao Yefeng retorted, silently reciting the sword incantation. The Soul-Severing Black Sword in his hand shimmered with spiritual energy, and an ominous Condemnation Arc began to form, making the floating Guide Spirit Children sense impending danger.
"Condemnation Arc? You dare to interfere with my condemnation and still live?" The man's voice emerged again from one of the Spirit Children.
"Hand over their souls, or I will take action!" Xiao Yefeng warned, raising his Soul Severing Sword as swirling spiritual energy flickered along its edge.
"You speak boldly; let me see how you intend to stop me!" With that, among the two Guide Spirit Children, the boy Ling Kong swept his palm forward. A massive crimson Eerie Energy coalesced in the air into a giant hand that surged toward him like an avalanche.
Xiao Yefeng dared not confront this attack head-on. After all, this was a Guide Spirit Child at eighty percent power, and one that had already refined Primordial Qi. No—more accurately, these two children had transformed into Soul Guiding Ghosts.
Previously, he had encountered a boy and girl around three years old whose Primordial Qi had yet to dissipate. Now, the crimson Eerie Energy confirmed that it contained Primordial Energy—a dream for all cultivators. As the Primordial Energy surged toward him, Xiao Yefeng felt certain he could not withstand it!
With a push off the ground, Xiao Yefeng leaped backward and crashed into a hospital bed. His retreat sent the bed sliding across the floor as Ling Kong's palm struck empty air. Stabilizing himself with the Black Sword in hand, Xiao Yefeng looked up at the two Soul Guiding Ghosts. He did not wish to harm their souls; however, it was impossible to reclaim them without fighting now.
With a sweep of his sword, dozens of Talismans appeared out of thin air, swirling around him before transforming into beams of light that shot out in all directions. Some imprinted themselves on the walls of the room while others landed on the floor. Twelve Talismans formed a rotating halo that flickered brightly, momentarily stunning the ghosts within the room. Seizing this opportunity, three others launched their assault.
The twelve Talismans created by Xiao Yefeng were Radiant Talismans forcibly condensed using his own spiritual power. They reclaimed part of their territory within the Four Symbols Eight Trigrams Formation. A surge of hot blood welled up and trickled from Xiao Yefeng's mouth; he paid no mind to it as he swiftly formed hand seals with one hand while his fingers danced rapidly. Complex beams of spiritual energy intertwined and then began to contract inward like a cutting machine.
"You are actually playing with me!" At this moment, Demon finally realized the whole situation. Xiao Yefeng's left hand grasped, and the beams of light in the air closed up like petals folding together. The four Evil Spirits turned to ashes the moment they were struck by the beams, leaving no trace of their Ghost Bodies, thanks to the power of the twelve Radiant Talismans. However, strangely enough, the gathered beams stopped above the heads of the two Guide Spirit Children.
Such a large movement was not meant to attack the two Guide Spirit Children but rather to assist the three in eliminating the four Evil Spirits, which made one of the Spirit Guide Children feel like they had been played.
"Quickly, seniors, protect these two children! We must not let them be attacked! The Soul Guiding Ghosts are too strong. I can hold them off but cannot protect both children!" Xiao Yefeng's mouth bled again from forcibly using the Radiant Talismans.
"Understood!" The three acted like soldiers receiving orders, choosing to trust him unconditionally. The forceful extermination of the four Evil Spirits made them willingly choose to trust him.
The disappearance of the four Evil Spirits astonished those from Spirit Guide Children. The Evil Spirits that were eradicated by twelve Inspirations connected to the four Apricot Yellow Flags outside. In an instant, as the Evil Spirits vanished, the four Apricot Yellow Flags shattered, leaving only four bare Flagpoles.
"Child, who are you? You have no right to know my name!" one Guide Spirit Child said.
"If you want to know my name, defeat me first!" Xiao Yefeng replied after wiping away the blood from his mouth.
"Arrogant!" The two Guide Spirit Children held hands and spun rapidly in mid-air. Soon, a crimson tornado appeared. Unlike ordinary Eerie Energy that felt ominous, this crimson Eerie Energy was exceptionally dry, as if it could instantly drain all moisture from a person's body.
The crimson tornado charged towards Xiao Yefeng, and heart-wrenching ghostly laughter echoed within it. At this moment, Xiao Yefeng could no longer hide his strength; with the children protected by the three, they should be safe for now. Facing these Guide Spirit Children who possessed Primordial Qi, Xiao Yefeng dared not hope he could win. He was buying time; Jiang Xing had told him before leaving that he would definitely return in ten minutes because Jiang Xing would not leave until then.
The wind dared to resist fiercely; at this moment, the Guide Spirit Child retracted her dark soul. Nie Xing's spirit showed signs of damage; clearly, Xiao Yefeng's sword had already wounded her.
