Li Chengjie sat in his younger brother's car, feeling the business card in his pocket. He tossed his package aside and pulled out Xiao Yefeng's card. The pristine white card had a hidden pattern resembling an intricate script, with the name Xiao Yefeng elegantly printed within it, accompanied only by a string of phone numbers below. As he gently brushed off the dust from the card, Li Chengjie was surprised to find that there wasn't a single scratch on it.
It appeared to be an ordinary business card, indistinguishable from his own. However, it bore the exclusive emblem of the Metaphysics Society hidden within its design.
"Brother, whose card is that?" Li Chengjun asked, glancing at his older brother who was intently wiping the white card.
"A truly extraordinary person. It's a pity that my time with him has been so short; otherwise, with his help, Mr. Xiao would surely have an easier path ahead!" Li Chengjie replied as he carefully tucked away Xiao Yefeng's card.
Seeing how much his brother valued the card piqued Li Chengjun's curiosity. However, his concern for Xiao Lin overshadowed it, prompting him to start the car and head straight back to Xiao Family Villa.
During the drive, Li Chengjie took a moment to read fortunes for himself and then for his brother. As expected, both readings foretold great misfortune. Yet, he couldn't help but admire how accurately Xiao Yefeng had predicted events. Li Chengjie respected the older man greatly and thought that if he could help his benefactor through this crisis, he would humbly seek guidance from Xiao Yefeng.
Watching his younger brother drive, Li Chengjie said, "Brother, I need to discuss something with you."
"Sure, go ahead!" Li Chengjun replied as he prepared to pull over, but Li Chengjie urged him to keep driving.
"How old are you this year?" Li Chengjie asked with his eyes closed.
Li Chengjun looked puzzled at his brother's demeanor and replied, "I'm twenty-seven! My birthday is coming up soon; I'll be twenty-eight!"
"Twenty-eight! That's great! What about the girlfriend you brought home last time? How's that going?" Li Chengjie smiled.
"Ah~ Brother! Wen and I aren't—" Although very intelligent, Li Chengjun felt shy when it came to matters of romance. As he drove, a blush crept onto his face. His embarrassment prevented him from noticing his brother's expression.
"Bro! No need to be shy; it's time for a man to settle down. Wen seems like a wonderful sister-in-law; your fates are particularly aligned. If you like her, take that brave step forward! Your big brother supports you!" Li Chengjie encouraged with a grin.
"Yeah, after this incident, I’ll officially pursue her!" Li Chengjun murmured softly, barely audible even to Li Chengjie’s enhanced hearing.
"I really want to see what you two look like on your wedding day!" At that moment, Li Chengjie gazed up at the car ceiling as tears slipped from the corners of his eyes. He knew that this journey might lead him to certain death. If he took his brother away with him, they would both emerge unscathed; however, the guilt would haunt them for life. At that moment, Li Chengjie resolved that he must ensure his brother's safety above all else. Though uncertain of what lay ahead, he was determined to protect him at any cost.
Li Chengjie's whispers went unheard by the shy Li Chengjun. The two brothers had always engaged in playful banter, with the elder teasing himself, and Li Chengjun responding without hesitation. After a brief moment of shyness, Li Chengjun said, "Hmph, you should remarry, brother. It's been so many years since sister-in-law passed away. Besides, she told you to find someone else before she died!"
"Jun, stop it. Your sister-in-law died for me; how could I ever look for someone else? Let's not bring this up again!" Li Chengjie replied, a hint of sadness creeping into his voice at the mention of his late wife.
At that moment, Li Chengjun insisted, "Brother! This was sister-in-law's dying wish for me. She wanted me to find a woman who loves you and will take care of you for the rest of your life. This is her command, and I will make sure to fulfill it!"
Li Chengjie glanced at his brother's face in the rearview mirror and smiled. "Alright, let's talk about it after Mr. Xiao's matter is settled."
"Then it's settled! You can't come up with excuses to avoid blind dates!" Li Chengjun said with a laugh. Li Chengjie nodded in agreement, and the two brothers drove away from the bustling city. As they traveled, Li Chengjie wiped away two tears and thought to himself, "Jun! Don't blame me for leaving you alone in this world; you've already found the right partner for your life!"
At that moment, Li Chengjie felt clarity in his heart. He had no fear about what was about to happen. Although he knew that this trip would likely lead to his death, he faced it with a smile. In fact, he was eager to accept this mission and discover who was behind the plot to kill Mr. Xiao and what methods they intended to use against him.
Unbeknownst to Li Chengjun, who was focused on driving fast towards the Xiao Family villa, Li Chengjie had already prepared thoroughly for any eventuality. Although he didn't know when members of the Shen Family would strike, he was ready for anything.
The Li brothers were no strangers to the Xiao Family; all the bodyguards and maids recognized them. Upon arriving at the Xiao Family estate, Li Chengjie immediately began setting up hidden defenses in his room. Once everything was arranged, he started crafting talismans and inscribing spells. He understood that if their adversaries employed any mystical techniques against them, they would likely strike at the last moment—regardless of success or failure—ensuring that the Xiao Family would be unable to attend the upcoming bidding event.
Meanwhile, preparations were underway within the Xiao Family for defense against any potential attack. Xiao Lin was unaware of Li Chengjie's arrival as he enjoyed dinner with his bodyguard Li Chengjun by his side. At that moment, Xiao Lin remarked, "I think Shen Ting is just trying to scare me! It's already the third time, and nothing has happened!"
Li Chengjun could only manage an awkward smile before replying, "Boss! You're right; I was just too anxious!" However, he knew that tonight was crucial for his brother. Thus, he had instructed all bodyguards to be on duty to ensure safety.
After dinner, following his usual routine, Xiao Lin liked to play ball on the villa's lawn—a location that worried Li Chengjun most due to its lack of cover for better lighting.
As Xiao Lin played ball and swung his club, everyone shielded their eyes from the sun to watch where the ball landed when suddenly a gunshot rang out. Li Chengjun reacted instantly by tackling Xiao Lin to the ground; however, this shot was merely the beginning.
With a silenced sniper rifle firing from a distant treeline, Li Chengjun had no choice but to use his body as a shield while pulling Xiao Lin beneath a nearby table—one recently purchased by Xiao Lin made of reinforced bulletproof glass. Using his body as protection while lifting the table over them successfully shielded Xiao Lin as they made their way back into the villa.
Inside the villa now fell silent; servants had fled to safe rooms while Xiao Lin took refuge in his own room under Li Chengjun's protection. Outside, gunfire had ceased—clearly intended only to force Xiao Lin back indoors.
"Thanks to you, Jun! If it weren't for you, I might have died again!" Xiao Lin sighed deeply as he sat on the sofa in his room.
At that moment, the two of them were unaware that they had been surrounded by a rising mist, turning the once safe refuge into a trap. Xiao Lin and Li Chengjun were resting on the sofa when suddenly, a hidden door in the shelter swung open. Li Chengjie burst out, clutching two talismans in his left hand and wielding a Peach Wood Sword in his right. He charged straight at Xiao Lin's throat.
Seeing Li Chengjie rushing at him with the sword, Xiao Lin was taken aback. "Jie, is that you?"
"Mr. Xiao, duck down quickly! Jun, dodge to the right!" Li Chengjie shouted without pausing.
Instinctively, Xiao Lin crouched down while Li Chengjun swiftly moved aside as instructed by his brother. At that moment, a glint of determination flashed in Li Chengjie's eyes; clearly, his Yin-Yang Eye had been activated. The sword, glowing with golden light, struck above Xiao Lin's head. He then flung the Yellow Talisman he held, and in an instant, two bursts of flames collided with the spot where Xiao Lin and Li Chengjun had just been.
The flames erupted with a crackling sound, and beneath the Peach Wood Sword appeared a ghostly figure. The Symbol Fire ignited the Ghost Body, revealing what had just appeared behind them: an Azure-Faced Fiend. The long claws of the Azure-Faced Evil Spirit loomed ominously behind them as one of its Ghost Claws caught fire from the Symbol Fire while the wooden sword pierced the core of the Ghost Body.
Li Chengjie silently recited a spell. After drawing three swift cuts with his sword, the Azure-Faced Evil Spirit transformed into an Eerie Energy and dissipated into the ground. It seemed this Evil Spirit was merely a wandering soul; otherwise, it wouldn't have been so easily defeated.
Now gathered together in the room, Xiao Lin stared at the vanishing Azure-Faced Evil Spirit and couldn't help but swallow hard. If it hadn't been for Li Chengjie's timely rescue, he would have surely fallen victim to the Evil Spirit's claws.
Just as Xiao Lin was about to speak, Li Chengjie interrupted him. "It's not over yet! The main one is coming!"
Indeed, at that moment, a female ghost dressed in a five-colored long dress entered through the wall while holding a flower basket. However, as she stepped inside, a Yellow Talisman stuck in a dark corner of the wall suddenly ignited. In an instant of distraction, her five-colored dress caught fire. The ghost frowned as she flicked her wrist with the flower basket; Eerie Energy surged forth and extinguished the Symbol Fire that had just ignited.
Li Chengjie raised his eyebrows at this sight. The ease with which she extinguished the Symbol Fire indicated that this female ghost was at least an Earthbound Spirit level. Moreover, she didn't seem ordinary; she was likely not created through traditional ghost-rearing techniques.
