After discussing, the two decided to rest for the night. Tomorrow would be the engagement ceremony of Liu Yiyi and that Robert. Given the time difference between China and America, tomorrow was already the last chance. No matter what, Liu Yiyi had to be reclaimed!
This night was destined to be sleepless. Compared to Xiao Yefeng and Mo Fei's calmness, some Extraordinary Persons in America had already begun to take action. Everyone knew that the engagement ceremony held by the Church tomorrow was significant. The Saint Child, who had been separated for countless years, was finally gathered again. The Church would receive blessings from the Saint Child, granting extraordinary power to all its members.
In order to achieve this combination of Saint Children, the Church even resorted to dirty and despicable means to abduct Liu Yiyi, a woman from China. The Church was willing to ruin its long-standing reputation for this event, demonstrating how much they valued it. Tonight, the Church of God was heavily guarded, with sentinels stationed every few steps.
In the grand hall of the church, a man dressed in a golden-white robe, wearing a holy crown and holding a white jade staff, sat at the head seat. Below him sat four Cardinals on chairs to his right, with twelve Cardinals standing behind them. On his left were four men dressed in knightly attire with swords at their waists sitting on chairs, while another twelve knights stood solemnly behind them.
This represented the peak combat power of the Western Holy See. Aside from the Pope whose strength was unknown, there were four Cardinals who were all peak Mages. The twelve Cardinals behind them were their disciples. The four seated knights were the Four Holy Knights, with another twelve knights standing as their apprentices. All thirty-two individuals possessed basic Inner Force levels.
Their peak combat power was roughly on par with that of China's Metaphysics Society; however, the Church only had one Pope, which made it unacceptable for any dissenting opinions—unlike China’s two factions.
"We have already wronged China in this matter. Tomorrow during the Saint Child's blessing ceremony, they will definitely come for their people. We must keep everyone else outside until the ceremony is over. These two Saint Children are already twenty years old; this blessing occurs once every four years and is their last chance. It will be impossible to find two more suitable Saint Children after this. Therefore, we must hold firm until the blessing concludes. Once it is over, we will return the Saint Children to China; after all, we haven't harmed her—just taken her fortune!" Pope Arthur's voice was like an ancient bell—aged yet unacceptable for doubt.
"Rest assured, Your Excellency. This time we have geographical advantages; people from China are very rule-abiding. It is impossible for four peak Inner Force individuals to cross boundaries simultaneously. In this regard, we hold a significant advantage. For this occasion, all Eight People are present; even if two are delayed, we can hold out until the ceremony ends!" At this moment, one Cardinal stepped forward.
On the other side, a leading Holy Knight stood up and said: "Hmph! If they come to snatch her away, I Jace will make these Easterners regret it! Let them know what price they pay for offending our divine might!"
"Jace! Your temper is too fiery. I have received divine guidance during my meditation; this matter is not simple. The chances of our plan failing are high; we are already at a disadvantage as it is. If people from China arrive, you can only delay them—do not act recklessly with weapons. The Chinese value propriety above all else; I Arthur Edward have already torn apart the East-West contract first—whether it is a blessing or a curse remains uncertain!" The Pope's voice echoed down.
The first Cardinal then continued: "Your Excellency worries too much; three years ago you crossed that boundary without launching an expedition into the East—it has already shown great respect towards them. Now you are thinking of us; what crime is there in prioritizing benevolence before righteousness?"
This Cardinal was indeed formidable; with just a few words he turned an atrocious act into one of great righteousness. After a long sigh, the Pope glanced at a couple sitting on cushions behind him and sighed again before waving his hand—the Pope vanished from his seat. Only thirty-two individuals remained in the hall as both groups exchanged glances and exited through their respective side doors.
In the realm of the Church, matters unfolded in a similar manner within the Divine Descent Society. In the darkness, the Divine Descent Society was clearly divided into two factions. At the head of the assembly sat a man in a prominent position, while below him were two distinct groups. To the right, individuals adorned in aristocratic lavender formal wear with butterfly bows stood out, their attire embellished with lace at the collars and cuffs, regardless of gender. Among them were both seated and standing figures, all possessing delicate features; the men were handsome, and the women alluring. The only notable characteristic was their pallid complexion.
Opposite them stood a group that resembled a band of disheveled brutes. Even though a few wore suits, they still exuded an air of thuggery. Their presence was further emphasized by thick gold chains around their necks, and if one were to wield an iron rod, they would appear as nothing more than a gang of ruffians. This group had few women among them; at the forefront stood a man clad in a rugged denim jacket, his muscular physique resembling hardened steel.
Just as sparks were about to fly between the two factions, a man's voice resonated from the high seat. His tone was notably hoarse as he spoke: "The Church has angered a sleeping lion this time. With their gathering of the Saint Child for blessings, what are your thoughts on this?"
"What can we think, boss? In my opinion, we should crash their party; opposing the Church has always been our goal, hasn’t it?" The muscular man extended his hands, his nails rubbing together.
"I agree with Old Wolf on this matter. Regardless of how the East reacts, we absolutely cannot allow the Church to obtain the Saint Child's blessings. Otherwise, their power will double within four years, and our lives will become unbearable!" A handsome man seated in a darkly embroidered rose-patterned suit raised his wine glass to savor its crimson liquid.
However, as soon as he finished speaking, the first man suddenly stood on his chair and pointed at the handsome man: "Old Bat, stop pretending! You call me Old Wolf; have you looked at your own age?"
"Tsk tsk tsk, haven’t you already advanced? As the new Wolf King, you could live for two hundred years; calling you Old Wolf is just my way of congratulating you!" The handsome man smiled slightly.
"Anke, you’ve been spying on me!" The muscular man’s eyes flickered dangerously at Anke’s words, a bloodthirsty glint emerging.
"Alright, alright! Vox, we’re all in this together. I don’t believe you’re unaware of our vampire society’s inner workings. Let’s not pretend to be so angry; if you don’t harm my people, I won’t touch yours. Can’t we coexist peacefully?" The handsome man downed his glass of scarlet liquid and wiped his mouth.
Indeed, Anke and Vox were the leaders of the two major factions within the Western Divine Descent Society. Anke was known as a Vampire Count; rumors suggested he had surpassed the threshold of Marquis status, though whether this was true remained uncertain. His full name was Anke Ferrad, making him the current head of the Ferrad Family and representing the pinnacle of Western vampires.
As for Vox, he was recognized as the current Wolf King. In terms of strength, he belonged to the Silver Mane Wolves; however, according to Anke's assessment, Vox had likely entered the Golden Mane realm. Previously achieving Golden Mane status signified one as a Wolf King; Silver Mane was slightly inferior to it, followed by Red Mane and Gray Mane representing four distinct levels. Unlike vampires who formed the Dark Council solely comprising Vampire Clans, Wolf Kings led various other races.
Behind Vox stood not only several werewolves but also a woman whose aura differed significantly from that of her companions. She appeared delicate and fragile; however, underestimating her would be a grave mistake. This woman was a rare Panther Woman—unlike werewolves who relied on brute strength for powerful attacks, Panther Women sacrificed offensive power for unparalleled speed. Before being subdued by the Divine Descent Society, many vampires had fallen to her hand—her reputation rivaling that of Vox himself.
"Hmph! A pair of fools!" Although Panther Woman stood beside Vox as part of the werewolf team, she showed no respect for him, scolding both of them with a single remark.
"Look at this, Sister Flower Cat! This is where you went wrong. Vox may be human, but I am completely above board! By the way, Sister Flower Cat! Would you do me the honor of having breakfast together later?" Anke's handsome face was filled with sincerity.
"Hmph!" Panther Woman turned her head away, refusing to look at the Vampire King. While others might not know Anke's true nature, Panther Woman was well aware that her only good friend had died at his hands. She couldn't bear to see his despicable methods for even a second.
Anke, unfazed by the rejection, seemed accustomed to this situation between them. Meanwhile, Vox sighed helplessly, "Vivian! What does this have to do with me?"
Everyone knew about Vox's feelings for Panther Woman, but they also knew that Panther Woman had never given him a kind glance.
"Ahem! Have you all come to an agreement?" Hoarse's voice cut through the tension once again. At that moment, everyone remembered where they were and realized they had forgotten about their leader's presence. The heated exchange between the two groups quickly faded into silence, replaced by a sense of calm. They understood how this dark figure managed to bring order between them; with just one sentence, he made a Vampire Count and a Wolf King feel utterly apprehensive.
"Tomorrow's China will be going to the Church of God to recruit people. You must do everything in your power to assist them. The Church will definitely send someone to obstruct the Chinese forces, so use all means necessary to help in secret. This time may be Arthur's most ill-advised step; he still underestimates the hidden forces of China!" The shadow on the throne vanished, and like the Church, both groups exchanged glances before departing in their own directions.
