Following the stone path, Xiao Yefeng arrived at a platform where a spring bubbled with clear water. It was hard to imagine that in the cloudless expanse of the Han Hai Desert, there existed such a spring. To his astonishment, Xiao Yefeng noticed that wisps of Qi were rising from the spring, erupting approximately every thirty seconds. This Qi, so different from the scattered points he was accustomed to, filled him with delight.
The Qi released in this instance was comparable to that of a spirit stone, and unlike the Qi within a spirit stone that required conversion—wasting some in the process—the Qi from this spring could be absorbed directly. It was nothing short of miraculous!
Just then, footsteps approached. After taking a deep breath of Qi by the spring, Xiao Yefeng saw who was coming—it was Master Juechen, the very first person to enter! Upon seeing Xiao Yefeng, Master Juechen sighed deeply. After a long exhale and a Buddhist chant, he said, “Friend, you have added to the slaughter; it seems difficult for you to achieve true enlightenment.”
Xiao Yefeng sheathed his Black Sword and bowed deeply, replying, “Master, your words are mistaken! Buddhism has its Fierce-eyed Vajra and the Bloodthirsty Angry Buddha. When compassion can no longer guide the world, those who cleanse it will naturally arise.”
“Amitabha! Your words are somewhat one-sided. You must understand that good and evil have their consequences. The Fierce-eyed Vajra and Bloodthirsty Angry Buddha are protectors! Evil people will face their own kind. Acting recklessly with nameless rage and slaughter is not the Righteous Path!” Master Juechen radiated a gentle Buddhist light, his words filled with peace as if he intended to enlighten Xiao Yefeng.
Xiao Yefeng smiled at Juechen. The moment Juechen saw that smile, he froze, and the light around him dimmed. At this moment, Xiao Yefeng spoke again: “Master, since you are a High Monk of Buddhism, do you know what Siddhartha Gautama realized after his enlightenment?”
“Please tell me!” Juechen replied.
“The Buddha preached universal salvation through the Righteous Path, yet his shadow embraced slaughter as part of that path. Master, if your actions involve killing, does that not contradict the teachings of the Buddha? Are we not in agreement?” Xiao Yefeng's smile was radiant.
At this point, Juechen took two steps back to calm his complex emotions before speaking: “You are insightful! I feel ashamed as a monk. However, I still advise you to refrain from acting on nameless fury; cultivating your heart is the Righteous Path!” Juechen had not expected to be outmatched in debate by Xiao Yefeng but ultimately offered his counsel nonetheless.
Xiao Yefeng smiled and said, “Rest assured, Master. I am not one who revels in killing; my hands are stained only with the blood of those who deserve it. I have never touched the soul of an innocent.”
Their conversation came to an end; Master Juechen could not enlighten Xiao Yefeng, nor did Xiao Yefeng manage to defeat Juechen in argument—after all, the Buddhist light surrounding Xiao Yefeng had not faded.
Just then, a white light manifested above the spring as Wenren Zhongheng appeared. Observing the banter between the elder and the youth, he sighed and remarked, “Truly, one generation is worse than the last. At such an old age still suppressing their innate power; it seems even the Buddhist realm has begun to fade away!”
Wenren Zhongheng’s words caused Master Juechen’s face to flush with embarrassment; he found himself unable to refute them. This renowned master had no strength left to argue against such truth!
"Your words are indeed wise, but as the Buddha said, all things born will eventually be replaced by the new. The path of cultivation once led ordinary people, and now we are being replaced by new forces; it is simply the way of things," Master Juechen said, bowing with his hands clasped together.
At that moment, Wenren Zhongheng fell silent for a moment before finally speaking. "It seems that Buddhism offers a broad perspective! Ahem! If it weren't for our past misdeeds with the previous generation, you wouldn't have ended up in this situation! Well, it is what it is! This is fate! However, I once predicted before my death that extraordinary individuals would vanish. Yet at this moment of transition between the old and the new, a calamity will arise. You must maintain a calm mind and not be blinded by greed to attempt any restoration! Remember, the transition between old and new is dictated by the Earth's fortunes."
Wenren Zhongheng sighed. Just then, distant sounds of fighting echoed closer. Xiao Yefeng saw that it was indeed the people from Huaxia clashing with those from Wa Country.
Holding a Peach Wood Sword, Deng Yixin unleashed a Yellow Talisman, and the Symbol Fire illuminated everything around them. At the same time, several Shikigami appeared before Xiao Yefeng and Master Juechen. Behind Deng Yixin stood Liu Entai; the two were back-to-back, fending off attacks from Kazama Tadao and Sakai Tomokazu. The two peak Geomancers from Huaxia were in such a predicament not because of these two Onmyoji but due to Ruan Sanyun, who had been circling around them. Ruan Sanyun was a Yoga Master at the peak of Inner Force and was leading this mission from Yue Country. However, with three against two and close combat interference, it was no wonder that the two Geomancers struggled to respond fully to the Onmyoji.
"Damn it!" Seeing this situation, Xiao Yefeng let out an angry roar. He pushed off from the stone steps and shot towards Ruan Sanyun like a bolt of lightning, drawing two Flying Needles from the bottom of his backpack as he moved—one aimed at Kazama Tadao and the other at Sakai Tomokazu.
"Wind!"
"It's you!"
"Die!"
Three different responses rang out in succession. The first came naturally from Huaxia; Liu Entai and Deng Yixin were somewhat surprised to see Xiao Yefeng here but felt more joy than anything else. Meanwhile, Sakai Tomokazu recognized Xiao Yefeng as an old acquaintance; upon seeing him arrive, he momentarily faltered. The Gu Huo Niao Shikigami in the air trembled as well; however, the Shikigami performed its duty well—Gu Huo Niao swiped one claw to deflect Xiao Yefeng's Flying Needle, saving Sakai Tomokazu.
On the other side, Kazama Tadao's Shikigami released a cloud of smoke, causing Xiao Yefeng's Flying Needles to fall uselessly onto the stone platform. The last person involved was Ruan Sanyun, who held different weapons in each hand—his right hand wielding a serrated short knife for offense and his left hand holding a water-splitting spear for defense. Just moments ago, Ruan Sanyun had successfully closed in on Liu Entai.
Using his main hand's Sawtooth Dagger as a feint to evade Liu Entai's longsword, he thrust his off-hand water-splitting spear toward Liu Entai's abdomen, seemingly on the verge of success. Just then, Liu Entai was lifted by a large hand and shifted backward; a pitch-black wooden sword unexpectedly met the water-splitting spear with a clang! The sound of metal clashing echoed as Xiao Yefeng's Black Sword swept through the spear's tip with ease.
Seeing this scene, Liu Entai cast a grateful glance at Xiao Yefeng. However, there was no time for sentimentality; with three against three now in battle, Huaxia had gained an advantage. With Xiao Yefeng's protection, Liu Entai and Deng Yixin no longer needed to worry about surprise attacks. In an instant, Symbol Fire crackled in the air; Sakai Tomokazu's Gu Huo Niao could hardly muster any combat ability out of fear for Xiao Yefeng. The tide of battle had begun to shift ever so slightly.
“Junior Brother Sakai! Why aren't you attacking with all your might? Have you already betrayed the Great God?” Kazama Tadao, unable to maintain his composure after being unable to break through and gradually being attacked by Deng and Liu, couldn't help but shout in anger at Sakai.
“Senior Brother Kazama! My Shikigami is afraid of Xiao Yefeng's Zhao Yin Gate and doesn't dare to approach!” Sakai Tomokazu replied helplessly.
“Useless! It takes over ten seconds for Zhao Yin Gate to summon from Yin Si. He doesn't have time to prepare now. Apply more pressure on him and give Mr. Ruan a chance!” After saying this, Kazama Tadao bit his finger hard, and a blood sword shot out from between his fingers, completely absorbed by his Shikigami in the air. The Ghost Mist, receiving this blood energy, instantly expanded into a thick black smoke, emanating a faint red aura.
Hearing Kazama Tadao's words, Sakai was taken aback. That's right! Last time, Xiao Yefeng was already prepared with Zhao Yin Gate. This time, the battle is so intense; he doesn't have time to prepare. With this thought, Sakai drew a dagger from his waist and made a deep cut on his finger down to the bone. The Gu Huo Niao in the air pounced on his wound like a wild cat smelling fishy blood, abandoning its fight with the Talisman to absorb the fresh blood.
“This is bad! These two Demons are going to use blood to summon ghosts, Liu Bro! It seems we can't hold back any longer!” Deng Yixin glanced at Liu Entai and nodded.
“Then let’s do it!” Liu Entai shouted loudly, his somewhat aged face filled with determination. Suddenly, Liu Entai sat cross-legged, and Deng Yixin followed suit. The two palms faced each other as two swirling orbs of green Vital Energy rose up. Their Peach Wood Swords floated upward, and gradually, a Taoist Sword Immortal dressed in robes appeared above their heads, with three flowers atop his head and five energies hidden in his chest.
The Sword Immortal extended his hand and summoned two almost identical wooden swords that he held in either hand. A sword in hand makes one an immortal; at this moment, with swords in hand, waves of azure lotus sword energy surged forth like dragons crossing rivers or great fish diving into seas towards Kazama Tadao and Sakai Tomokazu. Just then, as the pallor drained from their already pale faces, both of them staggered and collapsed onto the ground.
Simultaneously, two Shikigami appeared on either side as if they were real entities. Facing this terrifying sword energy, Gu Huo Niao and the Shikigami within the black mist joined forces to raise a massive shield. The shield managed to block several waves of sword energy before finally dissipating into an eerie energy that vanished without a trace. However, at that moment, the Sword Immortal and the two Shikigami had already engaged in combat; the Vital Energy swept through like an unstoppable gale against the two Shikigami. Gu Huo Niao embodied both yin and yang, alternating calls to resist.
Yet the Shikigami belonging to Kazama Tadao finally revealed its true form just as the Sword Immortal swept out his sword. Caught off guard, Kazama Tadao's Shikigami could only use its eerie energy for defense; however, this energy was completely blown away by the fierce wind, revealing the mysterious Shikigami at last.
Kazama Tadao's Shikigami was a handsome young man—truly handsome enough to rival top-tier movie stars—and possessed an otherworldly beauty that set him apart from humans. He had enchanting peach blossom eyes, and his disheveled hair swayed wildly in the wind. Despite having been injured by the Sword Immortal's strike, a strange smile remained on the corner of his mouth.
