Huazai's words left Azure Fox in silence. Indeed, if Bee Queen were still the peak Mercenary of her former days, how could she possibly retreat unscathed when facing the already formidable Gene Warrior abilities of Demon Fox? Not only that, but the fact that Demon Fox returned injured was perplexing. Although Demon Fox explained that he concealed his Gene Warrior abilities to avoid detection, this reasoning seemed flimsy to everyone present.
Even without actively triggering the genes to enter Beastification, a Gene Warrior's physical attributes would surpass those of an ordinary peak Mercenary. Yet, despite this advantage, Demon Fox ended up injured, which raised many questions.
At this moment, the nine people on the plane fell into silence. The five members of Evil Wolf Squad were particularly quiet, their eyes betraying a chilling intensity. What puzzled everyone most was the origin of the four Huaxia People and why they were associated with the notorious Constellation Mercenary Corps.
However, Xiao Yefeng noticed nothing on these four individuals that could indicate their identities. As he piloted the Land Behemoth back to the city, covered in dust and grime, he carried his backpack and entered an unoperational bar.
At the entrance of the bar stood two men in suits. Upon seeing Xiao Yefeng's dusty appearance and large backpack as he attempted to enter, they approached to block his way.
"Brother! This place opens at night! Isn't it a bit early to come now?" one of the men wearing sunglasses said.
"I'm here to find Uncle Mei! I'm Xiao Yefeng!" Xiao Yefeng replied directly.
The man in sunglasses immediately stepped aside and said, "Oh, you're a friend of the boss! He's inside; you can go right in and find him!"
With that, Xiao Yefeng was led into the bar. As they entered, the other man instructed, "Close the door!"
Noticing their caution, Xiao Yefeng smiled and walked into the bar. Unlike other bars that would be dimly lit at this time of day, this one was brightly lit at noon, with only a dozen or so cleaning staff bustling about.
Once inside, he was quickly guided by a man who introduced himself as A-Dong to a private room. After opening a hidden door within a cabinet, Xiao Yefeng descended a staircase leading to Mei Chuanqiong's secret chamber.
Pushing open the door, he found Mei Chuanqiong refining Blood Energy. Streams of crimson light swirled around him and were absorbed into his body as soon as Xiao Yefeng entered. Upon seeing Xiao Yefeng, Mei Chuanqiong smiled and said, "Mr. Xiao has arrived! Please have a seat!"
"Uncle Mei's secret chamber is quite special; it's so well hidden!" Xiao Yefeng remarked after placing his backpack on the floor.
"Haha, it was prepared back when I was still an ordinary person—better safe than sorry!" Mei Chuanqiong chuckled.
"True! By the way, Uncle Mei! Have you found the information I requested?" Xiao Yefeng asked.
"I have found it; it's located in the East District. The establishment is now called Misty Bar! It used to be known as Night Hall!" Mei Chuanqiong replied as he handed a thick stack of documents to Xiao Yefeng.
Xiao Yefeng took the documents and began to review them. The first few pages contained photographs, one of which showed two men who were clearly thugs posing together. The background prominently featured the sign of Night Hall. The second photo was evidently a recent shot, displaying the current façade of Misty Bar, which had undergone significant changes in its exterior decoration and signage.
After examining the images, Xiao Yefeng flipped through the documents. They were detailed yet superficial; while they might please someone conducting an audit, they were rather useless to him.
The only crucial piece of information was about the previous owner of Night Hall, a man named Zhang Xiuhong. The background provided was clear enough—he was an ordinary person who had built this establishment through sheer determination and intelligence during his youth. However, for reasons unknown, he had recently transferred ownership of Night Hall to a man named Jia Ming.
Jia Ming then seemed to vanish like a ghost, renovating the entire bar but never opening it for business. The atmosphere around the bar became quite strange, with no one willing to venture near it. As a result of this eerie vibe, several nearby businesses also closed down, making the area even more peculiar. Yet, despite everything, the rent was paid on time and without fail, which drew little attention.
As for Jia Ming, he was even more enigmatic. Aside from a questionable business license bearing his name, no one had seen his true identity. According to the records in the documents, many strangers had recently entered the establishment, but no one knew when they left.
"Uncle Mei! This man is named Zhou Zhiguo. Can you check if anyone has seen him enter this bar?" Xiao Yefeng handed a photo of Zhou Zhiguo to Mei Chuanqiong.
Taking the photo, Mei Chuanqiong pressed a button. Sure enough, A-Dong—the man from earlier—entered again. After briefing A-Dong on the matter, he left the room with the photo. At that moment, Mei Chuanqiong finally asked the pressing question: "Mr. Xiao! Does this man have any connection to Night Hall?"
With everything explained, Xiao Yefeng finally felt he could take a breather. The fatigue from a night of driving weighed heavily on him as he leaned back against the soft sofa and squeezed his nose before saying, "Uncle Mei! I wonder if your people are at the hospital?"
"Of course! Wherever there's something useful in this city, I have my people there! But what does that mean?" Mei Chuanqiong replied.
"That's great! I need you to help me find these four individuals! I suspect they may have met with misfortune—likely in the hospital's Mortuary!" Xiao Yefeng handed over photos of Zhou Ming and the others to Mei Chuanqiong. These photos were obtained from their homes in Huang Gou Village. Although Xiao Yefeng had little interest in these individuals, he felt it necessary for their families to retrieve their bodies if they were indeed deceased.
Mei Chuanqiong had long ceased to care about the lives of ordinary people. He had distanced himself from the underworld dealings involving regular folks and had entrusted his influence to several disciples while focusing on cultivating Blood Energy.
Suddenly, there was a series of knocks at the door. A woman dressed in black athletic wear and wearing a headband entered; she was Lei Mei. Upon seeing Xiao Yefeng—a stranger sitting beside Mei Chuanqiong on the sofa—she displayed a hint of surprise before speaking up: "Uncle Mei! I'm here!"
"Have a seat! Let me introduce you; this is Xiao Yefeng. In terms of seniority, you are peers, but I call him Mr. Xiao—don't forget your manners!" Mei Chuanqiong introduced them.
"Hello, Mr. Xiao! I'm Xue Lei; everyone calls me Lei Mei!" She extended her hand first.
Xiao Yefeng stood up and took Xue Lei's hand, saying, "No need to be polite. I’ve already asked Uncle Mei to call me Feng, but he just won’t do it. There's nothing I can do about that!" However, before he could finish his sentence, Xiao Yefeng glanced at Xue Lei with confusion, as he noticed a hint of internal energy from her wrist, indicating that she was testing her strength against him.
Although he didn’t understand Xue Lei’s actions, Xiao Yefeng decided not to make things difficult for the competitive girl out of respect for Mei Chuanqiong. He smiled and allowed Xue Lei to grip his hand. Yet, Xue Lei’s initial disdain gradually turned serious, eventually shifting to shock. She had initially disliked Xiao Yefeng's casual sitting posture; to her, Mei Chuanqiong was like a father figure deserving of respect. Therefore, she felt the need to teach Xiao Yefeng a lesson.
What started as a mere thirty percent of her strength aimed at reprimanding this arrogant man felt like throwing a stone into the ocean—her efforts barely made an impact on Xiao Yefeng’s wrist. Unable to accept this, Xue Lei increased her strength to fifty percent, yet still couldn’t budge him. Her competitive spirit flared up, and she escalated her effort to eighty or even ninety percent. In the end, despite giving it her all, she couldn’t change the situation; Xiao Yefeng’s smile remained unchanged.
In this awkward standoff, Mei Chuanqiong, who had been preoccupied with his own matters, finally sensed that something was off. He looked up and saw the two still holding hands and immediately understood everything.
“Lei, stop being rude! Let go of Mr. Xiao and apologize!” Mei Chuanqiong said, casting an apologetic glance at Xiao Yefeng.
At that moment, Xue Lei instinctively released her grip only to realize that Xiao Yefeng had already let go of her hand. It was just that she had gripped too tightly; her fingers were momentarily stuck in their shape due to the force. Quickly pulling her wrist away with her left hand, she said, “Mr. Xiao is indeed impressive; I concede!”
“Lei, don’t be so quick to concede. Even I can’t defeat Mr. Xiao! How does it feel to finally meet someone who can challenge you among your peers?” Mei Chuanqiong teased, clearly doting on Xue Lei.
“Uncle Mei!” Xue Lei hid her slightly numb right hand behind her back. However, being teased by Mei Chuanqiong seemed to be a common occurrence for her; she didn’t mind it at all!
“Alright, let’s put the jokes aside. How did your investigation go?” Mei Chuanqiong asked seriously.
“Ahem! The situation is indeed complicated; even a minor investigation has revealed some issues.” Xue Lei pulled out a printed selfie from her pocket. The photo was taken from a second-floor balcony and featured a girl posing for the camera. It appeared to be an accidental shot taken at night. However, besides the girl in the foreground, in the dark outside the window near the back door of Misty Bar, an ambulance was parked at the alley entrance while two people were carrying a stretcher toward it.
