After several hard hits, seven or eight pieces of the gun blade had already been knocked away. At this moment, two Number Two Robots were wielding their blades against the crowd. Just moments ago, one of them had struck down a Paladin, leaving another casualty in its wake. Meanwhile, the other factions were retreating to avoid further losses, with only their own Church sustaining damage. Thus, Davis had no choice but to concede, saying, "Cao Man! Don't you want to protect your juniors? If we keep fighting among ourselves like this, we'll be wiped out!"
"Bah! Why didn’t you attack first? A sneak attack on someone from True Spirit? Keeping you alive is a disaster for the world. Even if we perish together today, I will ensure you remain in this ruin," Cao Man retorted, throwing a punch at Davis's face.
"Clang!" Davis dodged the punch and replied, "You're forcing my hand! Fine, if sacrificing myself can take down two of Metaphysics Society's seniors, then I consider it worth it! Let me show you what a true Holy Knight is!"
With a rip, Davis's clothing was torn apart, revealing his muscular physique. His bare upper body exuded a fierce aura. Compared to Cao Man, who was over a hundred years old, Davis was still relatively young—perhaps not even seventy. Given that both had similar levels of cultivation, Davis's youth gave him an edge in vitality.
In that instant, regardless of Davis's condition, Cao Man landed a punch on his abdomen. Instantly, arcs of energy erupted from the mechanical gauntlet. However, Davis remained expressionless; he swung his lance and struck Cao Man at the waist with the shaft, sending him flying.
Davis's speed seemed to have increased two or threefold. As Cao Man stood up in surprise, he exclaimed, "Battle Spirit?"
"That's right! You all will die here today. Without your strengths combined, you'll be nothing but scattered sand. Wait and see! In the new era, our Church will be the true masters. Sun God, grant me Divine Power! I am willing to cleanse all evil for you!"
As his voice fell, a radiant light descended from above. Davis's already muscular form expanded even further; flames erupted from his lance. Most importantly, a pair of fiery wings began to faintly appear behind him.
Seeing this spectacle left both Cao Man and Li Xiangjun stunned as they simultaneously uttered, "How can this be?"
Yet amidst their exclamations in Chinese was an unexpected voice in American English! Realizing it was Davis who exclaimed in confusion as he looked at the wings behind him. They were still faintly visible; this shouldn't be happening. At this moment, Davis had sacrificed part of his lifespan to seek Divine Power's blessing. He should have instantly gained fiery wings and a suit of flame Armor; however, instead of receiving these gifts, his life force seemed to have returned to him.
Moreover, the power he sought did not come from the Sun God; it was burning with his own Holy Light Power. While it consumed his cultivation level now, he would not die once the flames extinguished—what was going on?
At that moment, Li Xiangjun laughed and said, "Ha! You’re mistaken; do you think this is just any ordinary world?"
Li Xiangjun's words struck Davis like a bolt of lightning; he understood why his sacrifice had failed. This place held the last remnants of power from the era of Atlantis—this was Atlantis and not Earth. The guardians here were still those of Atlantis and not the current Western Gods; without any deities present, how could he possibly receive power from his sacrifice?
Realizing this made Davis roar in anger before thrusting his flaming spear toward Cao Man. Clearly, before exhausting all his strength, Davis intended to take down Cao Man; after all, even with his desperate efforts, Cao Man would find it impossible to resist!
"Get lost!" The shadow of a fist surged like a tide, forcing the desperate Davis back. At that moment, although Cao Man wanted to kill this fickle person, he didn't want to perish alongside the struggling Davis. Therefore, stalling for time was the best strategy.
Davis was pushed back until he collided with a very hard wall, finally coming to a stop. Just as he was about to pursue Cao Man, the deadline of death rushed in from behind. In an instant, Davis raised his Flame Lance and flipped it around to block.
With a loud clash, the Flame Lance collided with a massive blade, and the resulting gust of wind nearly blew away Davis's Flame Lance. This also relieved some pressure off Li Xiangjun, as it turned out that this Number Two Robot was what Li Xiangjun had been enduring all along. While Cao Man and Davis were engaged in battle, the two Robots remained active, which forced Li Xiangjun and the others to keep holding them back, leading to a brief moment of calm in the chaotic scene.
Just moments ago, after seeing Li Xiangjun in a tight spot and having punched Davis back, Cao Man turned around to engage another Number Two Robot. This punch also pushed Davis toward the Robot that was swinging its blade at Li Xiangjun.
In an instant, Cao Man and the newly joined Davis pulled the two Robots back into combat, allowing everyone to breathe a sigh of relief. However, at this point, Davis could no longer afford to delay. In his carelessness, he had made the worst choice possible; now that his flames were gradually fading, without them he would surely perish here.
At that moment, after sweeping aside one Robot's blade with his gun, Davis unexpectedly thrust his weapon backward and pierced through the Robot's helmet. Immediately after, there was a thunderous explosion as the lance detonated inside the Robot's helmet. Davis fell like a kite with its string cut into a pit of rubble below and was soon taken away by a Paladin from the Church and the only Cardinal present, retreating from the battlefield.
In his final moments, Davis fought desperately to buy some time for the Church members. Once the battle was resolved and the Light Gate appeared, it would be China that held the power of discourse. If the Metaphysics Society turned hostile then no one from the Church would be able to escape. In his last act of desperation, Davis managed to destroy part of the Robot's Talisman, securing an unsafe insurance policy.
The Number Two Robot with half of its Talisman blown off staggered slightly but managed to regain its balance. However, clearly lacking half of its Talisman meant it could only use its remaining mechanical arm—one blade and one massive shield—effectively halving its attack power and giving everyone a brief respite.
"This won't work! We can't solve this like this, and those remaining are watching us closely. None of us can go all out. Wind, we’ll buy you some time; you go collect the unprotected Heart of Civilization!" Li Xiangjun exclaimed as she flung a Yellow Talisman. The Yellow Talisman Paper transformed into countless ice spikes that caused a momentary hesitation in the Number Two Robot guarding the Heart of Civilization.
Unfortunately, two White Robed Men shared similar intentions. Although they kept distracting the Robot’s movements, they were gradually closing in on the Heart of Civilization. At this moment, Xiao Yefeng and the two White Robed Men along with Deng Yixin were closest to it; clearly aware of each other's goals, they were about to engage in fierce competition for it.
"What should we do? Should we make our move? Master said not to harm this kid if possible," one of the White Robed Men said as they leaned together.
"What else can we do? Let's try our best to seize it; if he recklessly charges in without regard for his life, then we’ll act—just don’t kill him; Master won’t mind too much!" replied the other.
However, no one expected that this mysterious group of White Robed Men who appeared from the beginning were actually from Perfect World. But why wouldn’t Perfect World harm Xiao Yefeng? Why did Master give such an order? The people from Perfect World didn’t know and certainly didn’t dare to ask; they also didn’t need to know.
On the other side, Xiao Yefeng and Deng Yixin were discussing their plan. At that moment, Deng Yixin said, "I'll draw their attention for you. You can grab the Heart of Civilization when the time comes!"
Xiao Yefeng nodded in agreement, "Understood, Senior!"
The four of them exchanged glances, just as two Number Two Robots swung their blades toward them. Cao Man and Li Xiangjun worked together to protect Xiao Yefeng from the two attacking swords. Meanwhile, one of the White Robed Men pulled out a strange weapon from his cloak and locked it onto one of the blades, successfully creating an opportunity for his companion to seize the Heart.
As the three approached within a meter of the Heart of Civilization, Deng Yixin swept her longsword. Taking advantage of the momentum, Xiao Yefeng kicked off the blade and propelled himself toward the Heart, reaching out to grab the spiky Cube. In that instant, Deng Yixin lunged at the White Robed Man who was contesting with Xiao Yefeng.
However, Deng Yixin did not expect that the White Robed Man, who had been locked in place by her companion's weapon, would suddenly yank it back. A flash of golden light shot toward Deng Yixin, knocking her to the ground. Fortunately, Li Xiangjun was quick enough to catch her; otherwise, she would have taken a heavy fall.
Just as Xiao Yefeng was about to grasp the Cube, a colorless thread wrapped around the spiky Heart of Civilization first. The moment Xiao Yefeng made contact, the Heart was snatched away by the hook in the White Robed Man's hand.
In an instant, Xiao Yefeng lost his chance and fell back helplessly as the Heart of Civilization was now in the possession of the White Robed Man. As everyone had speculated, once it left its original spot, the two Number Two Robots froze in place, their massive shields dropping above the White Robed Man's head. At that moment, no one expected that the ultimate beneficiaries would be these White Robed Men.
Cao Man swung his iron fists and attempted to rush forward to reclaim it but was pulled back by Li Xiangjun and Xiao Yefeng. The two exchanged a glance and whispered something into Cao Man's ear. The five members of the Metaphysics Society quietly stepped back four or five paces, distancing themselves from where the Heart of Civilization had been placed. Everyone else had also ceased their actions.
Just moments after seizing the Heart of Civilization, the two White Robed Men displayed peak-level strength; clearly, no one could contest them now. Aside from the contemplative members of the Metaphysics Society, everyone else waited for a portal to appear so they could leave this place. However, as time passed without any sign of a portal, confusion began to spread among them.
Suddenly, a series of rhythmic thumping sounds echoed through the area, accompanied by what felt like tremors beneath their feet. Instantly, everyone turned their attention to the Heart of Civilization held aloft by the White Robed Man.
