"What?" The White Robed Man darted in front of the Mechanical King, raising his head to look at the Mechanical King's head.
Sure enough, within those crimson eyes, numbers were constantly changing, starting from sixty-four and counting down!
"Sixty-four, sixty-three, sixty-two, sixty!" What is this? The White Robed Man stared at the numbers.
At that moment, Li Xiangjun said, "It seems to be a countdown for how many times the Heart of Civilization can be rotated by the wind! Listen!" She pointed at the countdown numbers.
Just as Li Xiangjun had said, every time Xiao Yefeng rotated the Heart of Civilization, a sound would ring out, and the number would count down once. Now the number had reached fifty-one and was still counting down.
"Wind, if you don't fix the Heart of Civilization within fifty turns, I think this thing is going to explode!" Cao Man said.
"But how can I fix it? This thing is no longer the original Hexagon Cube; now it looks like a hedgehog!" Xiao Yefeng replied.
"We have no choice but to take a gamble. Whether we succeed or fail, we won't blame you!" Li Xiangjun declared.
The members of the Metaphysics Society nodded in agreement as they looked at Xiao Yefeng. The remaining new forces and the three from the Divine Descent Society and Church had nothing to say either. After all, it was already like this; opposing it wouldn't change anything. Who could guarantee that they could restore the chaotic Heart of Civilization back to its original state within fifty turns?
Seeing the trust in everyone's eyes, the members of the Metaphysics Society felt a sense of camaraderie. It was reminiscent of when they had dismantled bombs from their teammates in the past—facing death together and sharing both joy and hardship. Back then, Liu Team hadn't led everyone away but chose to stand behind them instead. That was friendship; that was absolute trust. Now with a different group of people and a different setting, yet that unwavering trust remained unchanged.
Looking at the Heart of Civilization that he had pieced together in his hands, Xiao Yefeng asked, "How many turns are left?"
"Forty-seven turns!" Li Xiangjun replied.
"Alright! Trust me; I will definitely fix this Heart of Civilization within forty-seven turns!" With that, Xiao Yefeng recalled the scenes he had just witnessed—the Heart of Civilization transforming from its initial six-faced Cube into a hedgehog shape. All those changes flashed through his mind like a fast-forwarded movie.
At that moment, Xiao Yefeng closed his eyes and repeatedly recalled everything in his memory, reversing the transformations of the Heart of Civilization while the numbers in the Mechanical King's eyes rapidly decreased from forty-seven.
"Twenty-six, twenty-five! Is this kid going to make it?" A man from the new forces who was a True Spirit Pinnacle looked at the countdown anxiously.
"Who knows! If we can escape this time, I promise I'll quit the organization. I'd rather face their pursuit than go through this experience again!" said one member from the Divine Descent Society beside him.
The sound of cracking continued, and the countdown quickly reached single digits. At this moment, the Mechanical King had already undergone a transformation; its originally metallic sheen had turned a deep crimson. The atmosphere around them had grown tense, as if they were sitting on a powder keg while playing with a lighter—one wrong move could lead to disaster.
"Nine, eight, seven...! This is impossible! I knew I couldn't trust him! You get down here, you murderer who has brought doom upon us all!" Such words had escalated from murmurs to loud accusations. Under the immense pressure, these people had lost their sense of self; shifting blame was their only outcome.
Meanwhile, Li Xiangjun and the others were silent, all staring upwards. The countdown had stalled at three for quite some time, seemingly frozen. Yet the Mechanical King continued to glow red. At this moment, Cao Man, the straightforward old man, could no longer hold back: "What's going on with the wind?"
Looking at the strange Heart of Civilization in his hand, Xiao Yefeng felt equally perplexed. The Heart of Civilization had taken on a hexagonal shape, but the only problem was that his memories of how to proceed were completely exhausted. Now, six points on its six faces protruded outward like sharp spikes. However, Xiao Yefeng was certain that he had completely reversed the changes in the Heart of Civilization; how could this situation arise without any missteps?
Moreover, it had been a long time since he had manipulated the Heart of Civilization, and the flames surrounding him posed no harm. What was happening? Was this success or failure? If it was a success, why hadn’t the Robot disappeared? Why hadn’t the portal appeared? If it was a failure, then why had the countdown stopped without an explosion?
Hearing Cao Man's words, Xiao Yefeng replied: "The Heart of Civilization has changed; it has completely replicated the previous transformation but cannot revert to its original hexagonal form. However, I am still safe!"
"How could that be? Did you forget a step?" Li Xiangjun asked.
"No way!" Xiao Yefeng pondered while holding the Heart of Civilization. Meanwhile, discussions erupted below. Finally, the White Robed Man from Perfect World stood up and said: "I'll go take a look!"
In that instant, Cao Man added: "I'll go with you!" There was no way Cao Man would let someone from Perfect World approach Xiao Yefeng alone.
At that moment, Xiao Yefeng recalled the Talisman he had just restored. Could this Talisman also be the key to repairing the Heart of Civilization? Without hesitation, Xiao Yefeng pointed his fingertip to his forehead; Qi surged forth as he began to inscribe the recently restored Talisman onto the entire surface of the Heart of Civilization.
In that instant, the stalled countdown resumed—three became two, two became one. Just as this happened, the Heart of Civilization in Xiao Yefeng's hands soared into the air under his final stroke of the Talisman. Xiao Yefeng was propelled out of Robot No. 1. Fortunately, Cao Man reacted quickly and caught him just in time as Xiao Yefeng felt as if his chest were being burned by flames.
His shirt was completely charred and stuck to his skin. At that moment, Li Xiangjun rushed over to treat him; although her frost energy lacked restorative power, it could at least numb the pain.
Meanwhile, the expanding Mechanical King finally ceased its growth; the countdown halted with a flash. The Mechanical King emitted a series of tremors as every pipe erupted with gusts of air until it shattered into countless pieces. At that moment, a portal appeared above its crown.
As soon as the portal emerged, everyone breathed a sigh of relief. However, just then, the Heart of Civilization that flew from Xiao Yefeng's hands hovered above the portal. Five members from Metaphysics Society stood alongside two from White Robed Man and three from Church—each new faction and Divine Descent Society contributed two members. Fourteen individuals stood before the portal—some standing and some sitting—gazing at it in stunned silence.
Suddenly, a burst of white light erupted as one remaining Cardinal from Church and a Holy Knight simultaneously unleashed all their Holy Light Power. One directed it left while the other right into Davis's body. As Davis received this Holy Light Power, wings of light sprouted from his back; with a powerful flap akin to that of a falcon, he shot toward the Heart of Civilization hovering above the portal.
"Ha ha! Thank you all from Metaphysics Society! This Heart of Civilization will be graciously accepted by Church!" Before anyone could react, Davis reached out with his right arm imbued with Holy Light Power and grasped the Heart of Civilization. Then Davis plummeted downward; as his wings retracted, he vanished into the portal.
At that moment, everyone except the unconscious Xiao Yefeng had already unleashed their attacks. However, Davis's speed was simply too fast; before their attacks could reach the light gate, Davis had already vanished into it.
"Damn it! That hypocrite Davis, when I get back, I'm definitely going to storm the Church!" Cao Man shouted angrily, slamming his fist into the ground, which instantly cracked open several fissures.
The members of the Metaphysics Society did not take action, but that did not mean the remaining new forces and the Divine Descent Society would remain idle. Inside the ruins, one remaining Holy Knight and a Cardinal from the Church lay helplessly on the ground. It was clear to everyone that these two had lost all their power and reverted to being ordinary people.
Just moments ago, they had temporarily bestowed their entire life’s cultivation of Holy Light Power onto Davis, allowing him to recover from being an incapacitated individual to a Holy Knight in a short time. This act was akin to killing the chicken to get its eggs; their powers could not be absorbed by Davis. Thus, like a leaking battery, forcing a charge would ultimately deplete its energy.
Therefore, Davis was destined to revert back to that useless individual who had burned out his cultivation due to forced sacrifice. The two of them also paid the price for their actions. The light gate gradually lost its power due to the absence of the Heart of Civilization. Consequently, as everyone sought to pursue Davis and could no longer delay, they stepped through the light gate one by one. Ultimately, the light gate twisted and disappeared, leaving behind two still-warm corpses within the ruins. These bodies were soon consumed by the distorted space as it vanished.
"Whoosh!"
With a flash, Cao Man, carrying Xiao Yefeng on his back, appeared inside an underwater cave. At this moment, several lights had been turned on, illuminating the previously dark cave where several members of the Metaphysics Society stood. However, Li Xiangjun, who had initially pursued Davis alongside two White Robed Men, was notably absent. Cao Man observed that nearly all members of the Metaphysics Society were injured. The shattered boulders and scattered signs of battle throughout the cave were enough evidence of how they sustained their injuries.
All participating forces had suffered losses; naturally, the Metaphysics Society could not escape unscathed either. The five individuals initially repelled by the light gate were attacked by members from the Church and Divine Descent Society as well as those from new forces who were similarly expelled. They could not have been attacked if those expelled had gathered here together since none of their leaders had emerged.
As emotions ran high among them, conflict became inevitable. Among the five from the Metaphysics Society who fought outside, one perished while four remained—three lightly injured and one severely wounded. The severely injured individual was Mo Fei. As a member of Ancient Warriors with Inner Force abilities, he naturally bore the responsibility of holding the front line for everyone else and ended up gravely injured.
Fortunately, his injuries were not life-threatening. After Cao Man and others equipped Xiao Yefeng and Mo Fei with underwater breathing devices, under Cao Man's protection, they carried their only fallen teammate back to the surface with all members of the Metaphysics Society returning to Huaxia under their guidance.
