Just as the Wind and Thunder Envoys vanished from the battlefield, their figures barely visible to the naked eye, a man in his fifties, seemingly unsteady on his bicycle, appeared. A colorful bird perched on the handlebars, its eyes wide with fear, yet it remained motionless.
The man dismounted and approached the charred body of the Virgo Palace Master lying on the ground. Observing the gaping wound on his neck, the Capricorn Palace Master couldn't help but click his tongue in dismay. "Tsk tsk tsk! If that wound were any deeper, even a deity couldn't save you. Old Pervert here, now that there are no outsiders around, get up!"
As soon as he finished speaking, the seemingly lifeless Virgo Palace Master actually managed to sit up. Sitting on the ground, he touched the scar left by the Last Wind Messenger and felt a chill run down his spine. In that final moment, he had sensed that the Wind Envoy was willing to risk being pursued by Capricorn Palace Master just to kill him. Thus, he had gambled on the attack being aimed at his neck.
At this moment, he had completely shed his Beastification state, with only a thick layer of colorful scales an inch thick remaining on his neck. This was why the Wind Envoy had failed to kill him; however, with the scales cut open and the wound pressing against an artery, any deeper and even a deity would be unable to save him.
Seeing the man's face—slightly mocking yet devoid of concern—he felt a surge of anger rising within him. Nonetheless, it was this person's arrival that had allowed him to cling to life. Despite this, he felt no gratitude towards Capricorn Palace Master; after all, this was merely a recent agreement among the Zodiac and the first ironclad rule set by the Star Master.
"Tsk tsk tsk! Oh my Virgin! No, no! Don't look at me like that; otherwise, I might do something bad!" Capricorn Palace Master said while playfully teasing the bird on his handlebars.
The reason for his jest was clear; when he called out to Virgo Palace Master, he had received a murderous glare in return. The two were evenly matched in strength, but now that Virgo Palace Master was severely injured, he could not muster a retort against Capricorn Palace Master's words. He sat there trying to regain his strength; indeed, the ancient and rare Rainbow Lizard Gene proved extraordinary.
Though his internal wounds could not heal, at least the external ones had stemmed the flow of blood. In just two short minutes, Virgo Palace Master stood up and disregarded Capricorn's presence as he made his way toward the Underground Base. He had attempted to contact the base again but found that not only Chris had not responded; even the communication devices within the base went unanswered.
If it weren't for his inability to move quickly at that moment, he would have rushed back already. Meanwhile, Capricorn Palace Master watched as Virgo Palace Master limped toward the Underground Base and teased the bird again. "Should we eliminate this old guy? This is quite an opportunity! If he dies now, no one would know it was me! What should I do? So conflicted!"
Fortunately for him, Virgo Palace Master had already walked far enough away; otherwise, hearing those words would likely have prompted a fierce confrontation. Capricorn Palace Master shook his head at Virgo's retreating figure and chose not to pursue him further or continue protecting him. His presence here was due to an agreement between the Zodiac and Star Master; saving him was enough to honor his promise.
As for Virgo Palace Master's fate after being saved and leaving on his own—what did it matter to him? After all, not taking advantage of someone in distress was already showing considerable mercy.
With a flick of his right hand finger toward the distant bicycle, it began moving toward him as if someone were riding it. Anyone observing would have noticed that just moments ago it hadn't been resting on its kickstand but stood upright as if still being ridden. Now with a simple gesture from Capricorn Palace Master, the bicycle came rolling toward him on its own.
Placing the bird on his shoulder, the Capricorn Palace Master whistled as he rode his bicycle back along the same path. Meanwhile, the Virgo Palace Master walked steadily until he reached the entrance of his base. Upon arrival, he was shocked by the scene before him. Two Gene Warriors from the third team lay on either side of a lightning pit, arrows piercing their backs and claiming their lives.
Looking into the pit, he was taken aback by the sight of a corpse that had been grotesquely corroded by poison. He jumped down into the toxic pit and turned the body over with his foot, revealing a face that was already showing signs of skeletal decay. Although he couldn't identify the person from their face, the prominent chest led him to a realization; there were few women among the constellations, and even fewer who could wear such attire under his command.
Once, Consort Mi was one of them, along with Chris and the captain of the seventh team under Virgo. However, the captain of the seventh team was not here, and Consort Mi was imprisoned; this could only be Chris!
Seeing Chris's lifeless body filled Virgo Palace Master with rage. Chris was not only his most successful Gene Serum user but also his most loyal subordinate and his woman. Yet he had no time for grief or anger. Ignoring the two wounds on his body, he transformed into a blur and rushed into the Underground Base. What he encountered next left him utterly stunned.
The bodies of other members from the third and fifth teams lay scattered at the entrance, each one marked by arrow wounds or fatal cuts. Seeing this, Virgo Palace Master charged toward the deepest part of the underground facility as if driven mad.
Upon reaching the laboratory door at the bottom, he finally felt a sense of relief. Although there were countless marks from blades on this large door, it had not been breached. Clearly, Xiao Yefeng and Consort Mi were still inside!
With a heavy stone lifted from his heart, Virgo Palace Master gritted his teeth and said, "Hmph! What a fine Elemental Remnant! Once I transform both Xiao Yefeng and Consort Mi and inject them with Immortal Insect Gene, I'll make you damned fools pay!"
With that, he pressed his fingerprint on the screen at the door and entered a lengthy password. The door gradually opened while Virgo Palace Master remained furious. However, in his mind, as long as Xiao Yefeng and Consort Mi were still alive, it didn't matter how many others died. He failed to notice that outside the laboratory, a metal cabinet in the lower right corner of the area had been moved, and the lifted floor tiles did not fit perfectly back into place.
Suddenly, anguished roars filled with fury echoed through the Underground Base. Inside the laboratory, Virgo Palace Master stared at shattered glass walls and an empty testing platform. After years of suppressing his own negative genetic state, he could no longer contain himself; rage overwhelmed him.
His once pristine white robe was now tattered due to encounters with Wind and Thunder Envoys. This time, unable to control his beastly genes, he underwent full Beastification! A monster emerged with colorful spiked scales covering its body; its hands elongated into sharp claws while a tongue nearly a foot long hung outside its mouth. Purple saliva dripped onto the ground, capable of corroding everything it touched; blood-red eyes indicated that he was on the brink of collapse.
Consort Mi had been central to his research throughout his early life; now she was lost. Xiao Yefeng represented his ultimate research goal for later in life; now he too was gone! Such blows drove him into madness. Meanwhile, two groups far from the Underground Base paused to look toward its direction.
One of them was naturally Capricorn Palace Master. At this moment, five or six colorful birds perched on his handlebars and shoulders. Hearing that furious roar made him frown slightly before smiling and saying, "It seems Old Pervert's research is about to be scrapped. And it looks like there's already trouble with Rainbow Lizard; I hope this doesn't affect Star Master's grand scheme!"
As the Capricorn Palace Master was about to continue his ride, the watch on his wrist suddenly flickered with a circle of starlight. Upon seeing this, he swiftly dismounted and stood respectfully before pressing the screen on his wrist.
A beam of white light shot up from the watch's display, forming a three-dimensional figure within the glow. Upon seeing the silhouette, the Capricorn Palace Master bowed and said, "My Lord Star Master!"
"The Virgin has been affected by the Rainbow Lizard's genes. You need to bring him back to the Capricorn Base, take all valuable data, and evacuate all personnel from the base. They will temporarily belong to Capricorn!" The figure continued to blur, but managed to convey all the instructions.
Seeing the hazy image, the Capricorn Palace Master felt puzzled. Logically, there should be no areas on Earth where this program was not covered; such signal disruptions should not occur. However, this was not the time for him to dwell on that issue. He clasped his fists and replied, "Understood! I will take care of it immediately!"
Before he could finish, the figure became even more indistinct, but the voice remained clear as the Star Master instructed, "After accounting for everything, destroy your Capricorn Base and bring back research results along with Gemini, Taurus, Cancer, and Aries. You must return within three days!"
"Yes!" The Capricorn Palace Master had no time to think about anything else; the Star Master's figure had already vanished. He lingered for just a few seconds to gather his thoughts before turning around and heading straight back to the Underground Base where Virgo Palace Master was located. This time, he did not ride his bicycle or play with the bird perched on his shoulder.
At that moment, he ran with lightning speed. Just as he was about ten meters away from where he had been standing, his bicycle finally lost balance and toppled over. The bird on the handlebars took off in a flurry, its eyes wide with fear as it quickly vanished from sight, leaving only the fallen bicycle behind.
Upon closer inspection, one could see several fine, colorless threads drifting in the wind from the bicycle's frame, giving it a transparent appearance under the sunlight.
