"Get lost!" Surrounded by enemies, Xiao Yefeng unleashed the barrier of the Mountain Guardian. The mirror surface representing Genius Position suddenly transformed into Wind Position. The blue wind flowed like a clear stream through the mountain gorge, carrying Xiao Yefeng forward like falling leaves. With several swift maneuvers, each step landing on a Talisman, in less than a second, Xiao Yefeng retracted the Mountain Guardian and activated the power of Xun Character Technique to successfully evade the encirclement of these beasts. He gripped his sword with his right hand while pointing his left hand like a sword at his forehead.
When he opened his eyes again, he was already beneath the light gate. At that moment, the beasts that had been clinging to the Mountain Guardian barrier had just fallen. Losing their target, they turned their gaze toward Xiao Yefeng but merely surrounded him without attacking. The range of the light gate extended only one meter in front of it; at this moment, Xiao Yefeng stood at its threshold while countless beasts lingered just outside its glow. With their arm lengths, they could easily strike him; yet none dared to move. As long as Xiao Yefeng did not leave, neither would they.
Calming his racing heart from the effects of Xun Character Technique - Misty Wind Guard, Xiao Yefeng turned to face these beasts. He had not had time to observe them closely before; now he noticed that all these creatures facing him shared a common feature: each bore a distinct mark on their foreheads identical to one he had seen on a jade slip earlier.
Wait! Why does this mark look so familiar? Taking out the jade slip again, Xiao Yefeng carefully compared it with the mark on one beast's forehead. Upon closer inspection, he furrowed his brow because the mark on the jade slip depicted a creature with shimmering golden wings while those on these cat-like creatures resembled a scorpion symbol from Perfect World.
Could it be that Perfect World is related to this unknown sect? Xiao Yefeng glanced around at all the beasts before finally focusing back on the gate. The frame of the Golden Rice light gate was adorned with Talisman symbols; among them was unmistakably the emblem from Perfect World. A sense of suspicion arose within him; however, he hoped this suspicion was merely an illusion because if it were true, Earth might truly be without hope.
With his right hand holding the sword and his left gripping the jade slip tightly, Xiao Yefeng stepped through the light gate. At that moment, new text appeared on the jade slip: "Jungle Cat test completed. Killed twenty-seven Jungle Cats in half a quarter hour; time qualified but kill count insufficient; overall rating: Excellent! Next stage: Endless Swamp. Conditions for passing: Find the light gate; overall rating must be above passing level for clearance!"
The light gate flickered and vanished from sight as all Jungle Cats scattered into the jungle in different directions. Meanwhile, the mysterious Perfect World quartet encountered an ambush from these Jungle Cats but had yet to discover the light gate. On another side, Abe Rōyu and others from Wa Country had just entered the jungle when they were blocked by Jungle Cats as well. Fortunately prepared for such an encounter, they left behind two unprepared corpses and pressed deeper into the jungle.
At this moment, Xiao Yefeng had followed through the light gate to reach the second level of Nine-Tiered Demon Suppression Tower. The flag atop this level of Demon Tower shone brightly as he opened his eyes once more to find himself standing on a rock. However, the greatest danger did not come from these beasts but from the environment itself. Only with all his strength wielding Yin-Yang Sword was he able to sever its body; however, in doing so, he fell into the swamp below. If it weren't for Great Dazawa Step counteracting its pull, escaping would have been impossible.
Moreover, another beast recorded—the Explosive Tooth Crocodile—had yet to appear. It was clear that this lake-like path would not be safe.
"Ding!" A golden ring on the jade slip flashed brightly, causing Xiao Yefeng's heart to race; someone had arrived! Time was of the essence; waiting was no longer an option! With a flick of Bagua Mirror and invoking Xun Character Technique once more, Xiao Yefeng floated lightly onto his first landing spot on the water's surface. His precise calculations combined with rich experience ensured that this landing point was secure. Following that, he swung his sword back and propelled himself forward with momentum.
At that moment, a pair of blood-red eyes opened from the front. Sensing Xiao Yefeng's approach, it suddenly shot out of the swamp like a cannonball, its massive jaws wide open, aiming to bite at Xiao Yefeng's right foot.
Just as the tip of his foot was about to touch the ground below, Xiao Yefeng sensed something was wrong. He quickly retracted his foot in mid-air and thrust the Yin-Yang Sword downward.
"Clang!" The sound of metal clashing echoed as the blade of the Yin-Yang Sword collided with the sharp teeth of the Explosive Tooth Crocodile. This encounter was indeed perilous; the Explosive Tooth Crocodile did not loosen its grip despite the sword piercing into its gums. Instead, it opened its mouth wide, creating a tremendous suction force from below, attempting to pull Xiao Yefeng into the swamp.
"You beast! Take this!" With a flick of the sword against the Explosive Tooth Crocodile's teeth, Xiao Yefeng propelled himself upward and swiftly threw a Yellow Talisman. The talisman stuck to the crocodile's snout. Realizing something was amiss, the Explosive Tooth Crocodile charged toward the swamp. However, just as it plunged into the murky waters, a thunderous explosion erupted, and soon after, the head of the Explosive Tooth Crocodile was blown apart, its lifeless body floating to the surface.
