Hearing Xiao Yefeng's words, Master Juechen gave him a meaningful glance and then shook his head, saying, "Some people and some things will eventually leave you. I hope you can be prepared for it."
"Like you, Master? In these troubled times, with the plans of Perfect World and the schemes of the God of Sorcery, is the crisis on Earth really going to make you leave?" Xiao Yefeng asked.
"Everything is predetermined, yet within that predetermination lies variability. You are that variable, my friend. You have a surprise awaiting you, though it comes with danger. The crisis on Earth has not truly arrived, but it is not far off! Maintain a calm heart and a childlike spirit; perhaps you can achieve a remarkable reversal!" Master Juechen's words echoed in Xiao Yefeng's mind. After finishing his statement, Master Juechen joined his hands together and fell into a deep sleep.
Under the Observer's Eye, Xiao Yefeng saw flickering Buddhist light behind Master Juechen. As Master Juechen's soul floated out, he smiled at Xiao Yefeng upon noticing him. Then, like smoke, he vanished. Yin Si did not appear; instead, a golden door emerged, taking away Master Juechen's soul, dissipating into nothingness. This was the first time Xiao Yefeng witnessed a soul departing to a place other than Yin Si.
Having traveled such a long way only to see Master Juechen for the last time left Xiao Yefeng feeling somewhat melancholic. Each encounter with Master Juechen had left a profound impression on him. This deeply knowledgeable elder of Buddhism had provided Xiao Yefeng with insights into life.
Due to Master Juechen's passing, the Thunder Sound Temple rang its mourning bells for a long time. Xiao Yefeng sat in a corner of the temple hall like a walking corpse, reminiscing about every word the master had spoken to him. It was clear that Master Juechen had anticipated something, just as he had foreseen that Xiao Yefeng would fall and need Suchar to come for him. After sitting in the hall for quite some time, a monk approached and handed Xiao Yefeng a piece of yellowed paper.
The strong brush strokes wrote out a passage that Master Juechen had prepared days earlier. Xiao Yefeng was now the owner of this paper. The master had written: "With change comes progress; one cannot remain stagnant. A new era requires new rules. Friend, everything is not as dire as you think; perhaps your true enemies will shock you!"
This passage left Xiao Yefeng feeling somewhat ambiguous. Just as he was pondering its meaning, a young man with a cold expression approached him and said, "You must be the Lord of the Underworld!"
"Master of the Shadow Gate?" Xiao Yefeng replied in confusion.
"My name is He Yin! I was summoned here by the master three days ago; I've been waiting for you!" The young man said with a stern face.
"Oh? Why are all three of you like this? When I couldn't find the Gate of the Underworld, none of you were willing to meet me, yet now you come seeking me?" Xiao Yefeng was not in a good mood at that moment and did not express much goodwill toward him.
He Yin seemed unfazed and glanced around before saying, "Perhaps once you open the Gate of the Underworld, you'll understand why we were reluctant to gather together!"
"You know about the Gate of the Underworld? Am I really the only one who doesn't?" Xiao Yefeng asked.
"Enough with the small talk. The Dissipation of Spiritual Energy Day is approaching, marking the end of the End of the Law Era on Earth and the true beginning of the Technological Era. Of course, it also signifies the start of a new age. When do you plan to open the Gate of the Underworld?" He Yin asked.
"The transition from old to new is upon us. Since a new era is arriving, I intend to be the first to welcome it!" Xiao Yefeng replied.
"Very well! I will be there on time!" He Yin said before merging into the crowd of worshippers, gradually disappearing among them. Meanwhile, Xiao Yefeng spent some time at the Thunder Sound Temple, witnessing the rampant behavior of the Beastmen and observing the resistance from the New Humans. He also noted their disdain and fear towards the previous regime.
This situation was not an isolated case. Whether it was those who had taken the official Gene Serum or those who consumed the Divine Elixir sold by Perfect World, it seemed that only elderly individuals and children had not undergone any genetic enhancement.
Currently, law enforcement in various countries appeared somewhat fatigued, as genetically enhanced individuals were now widespread. Internationally, these modified individuals were referred to as New Humans, and the Human United Federation was under their control. After several attacks by Extraordinary Persons, the Human United Federation had fully emerged, publicly selecting and expelling all sources of chaos, particularly targeting the Extraordinary Persons.
Afterward, Xiao Yefeng returned to the Liu Family. Upon his return, he discussed the current situation with Qing and Jiang Xing. Indeed, a revolution among New Humans had begun; they had firmly established themselves internationally. However, everyone knew that this Human United Federation was merely a facade to rally support. Although it had been a short time, it had completely replaced previous dark forces.
There were even rumors that the Human United Federation was about to announce its own nation. At this moment, Xiao Yefeng and others noticed that Perfect World had vanished once again after successfully causing the emergence of New Humans. This shadowy organization seemed to have disappeared once more, but Xiao Yefeng vaguely sensed that members of Perfect World were hidden within the Human United Federation. Surprisingly, Jie had been discovered.
However, Jie appeared to have been brainwashed by Perfect World, acting like a fool. Azure Harmony had tested Jie multiple times but found that Jie no longer resisted. Azure Harmony speculated that during an extraction of map information from Jie's memories, his consciousness had been damaged, leading to his current state. Xiao Yefeng remained vigilant because he sensed something unusual about Jie's return.
After all, if Xiao Yefeng needed someone's memories, he could forcibly read them directly. The result would be similar to Jie's condition. However, what puzzled Xiao Yefeng was why members of Perfect World would leave Jie alive and return him to Qing.
Despite Xiao Yefeng's strong opposition to Qing keeping Jie close, their deep sibling bond led Qing to reject his concerns. Just as societal order began to shift due to the emergence of New Humans, a stunning woman was fleeing in all directions. Her agility was remarkable; however, she seemed somewhat apprehensive, her movements not entirely fluid—especially her turning kicks appeared hesitant.
"Catch that woman! Hiss! I like her!" exclaimed a man with an ugly crocodile head from among the Beastified individuals.
Clearly, he was a leader among this group of New Humans. With a single command, dozens of robust New Humans with sharp teeth and claws charged at her like rabid dogs. The woman quickly reached behind her waist and gritted her teeth as azure scales emerged on her skin. Sharp claws extended from her fingertips as she surged forward like a gust of wind toward the New Humans.
"Wow! This girl is wild! What’s so great about being a proper Gene Warrior? Let me show you what New Humans are capable of!" As she weaved through and fought off countless New Humans with her agile movements, that same Beastified man with a crocodile head but muscular like a bull stood up and declared.
"Hey, girl, I'm here!" The attack was devoid of any technique, just the rough moves of a thug. He threw a punch at the woman's chest, but his open fingers clearly indicated that he wasn't aiming to win; he was merely trying to tease her.
"Hmph!" The woman let out a cold snort as her fist, covered in azure scales, collided with his palm. A surge of blue water erupted, pushing against the man's fingers as he attempted to grab her wrist. With a loud crash, both of them were forced back several steps, momentarily stunned by the stalemate. Seizing the opportunity, the woman turned and vanished into the dark alley, aided by her Beastification.
The Crocodile-Headed Man rose from the rubble, roaring in anger. His gang immediately pursued her. At that moment, the Crocodile-Headed Man retracted his Beastification form and took out a vial from his pocket, swallowing its contents. His pale complexion regained some color as he declared, "What a strong Gene Warrior! But you will never defeat us new humans! Girl, next time we meet, I will conquer you!"
As expected, his gang returned empty-handed. The Crocodile-Headed Man led them out of the alley while saying, "Well, after collecting protection fees here, I’ll buy another muscle-enhancing potion!"
Once they left, on top of a flat-roofed three-story building above the alley, the woman reappeared. It turned out she hadn't left at all. Seeing that her enemies had departed, she reverted from her Beastification state and touched her flat abdomen thoughtfully. "These new humans have gone mad! The potions from Constellation Research are not that simple! But those crazy scientists are right; human imagination is limitless. The effects of the Divine Elixir being made public have exceeded expectations by hundreds of times!"
"Those madmen dare not conduct experiments; these people fear nothing. With Gene Warriors and countless single-aspect enhancements using high-priced drugs to counteract quick consumption, the Constellation plan has succeeded completely. Is the world about to become an era filled with beasts?" After adjusting her clothes and glancing at her watch, she sighed in frustration. "How annoying! Using Beastification's power and still getting detected?"
And indeed it was so; a group wearing sigil badges was pursuing her with instruments in hand. One of the men exclaimed, "We've spotted the Twelfth Experiment Subject just ahead! She's concealed her presence again—quickly follow!"
It was currently the traditional New Year festival in China, yet there was none of the usual festive atmosphere. Everyone, from high society to those at the bottom rungs of society, felt that the social climate had changed. Aside from China, other countries had almost entirely abandoned punitive measures against new humans. Thus, China still retained some semblance of its former spirit. Xiao Yefeng informed Qing and others about his plan to use the Four Yin Gate to open the Gate of the Underworld.
After weighing the pros and cons, Xiao Yefeng ultimately declined their request to accompany him. Although Perfect World had also discovered where he intended to go, he speculated that it wouldn't be the entrance to Prehistoric Ruins and thus deemed it safe enough. Liu Yiyi had been unusually focused on intense training lately; despite having lost her spiritual power, she refused to give up. Xiao Yefeng could only shake his head in resignation; after all, with new humans and the Human United Federation rampant nowadays, Liu Yiyi would be safer at home.
