Xiao Yefeng searched in vain once again with Heishan, examining the other two individuals. As expected, they were completely empty, almost identical to what Xiao Yefeng had found on those outer snipers and observers. Aside from their own weapons and ammunition, there were no markings whatsoever.
At this moment, Xiao Yefeng turned his gaze back to the leader of the assassins, bound by his Intercepting Finger technique. The moment Xiao Yefeng's eyes locked onto him, the assassin leader felt a bone-chilling cold creeping closer. He wanted to escape, but his limbs no longer belonged to him!
"What do you Human United Federation want?" Xiao Yefeng asked.
"Cough cough! I don't know anything! You'd better kill me; otherwise..." The assassin leader's throat was struck by Xiao Yefeng's gunstock, making it difficult for him to speak as he coughed repeatedly.
At this time, Xiao Yefeng spread his hand, revealing a pill containing a drop of golden liquid. He calmly said, "Have you forgotten me after all these years? This is the exclusive potion of the Twelve Zodiac Enforcement Team—Yama Water! I've long suspected that your Human United Federation is affiliated with Perfect World. With a suicide potion like this at your disposal, do you really think I need your information?"
"Hmph! Even if I knew something, what difference would it make? Yin Si has severed ties with this place. Who doesn't know that you Geomancers can't read the memories within souls?" The assassin seemed unfazed as he spoke.
"That's right! I can no longer extract memories from souls. However, as a Guardian, I have better methods!" With that, Xiao Yefeng raised his hand and directed the Golden Cyan Inspiration towards the assassin's forehead. A vague memory appeared in Xiao Yefeng's Spirit but vanished within seconds. The assassin fell to the side, his mouth crooked—he was already dead.
The death was painful and brutal. Seeing this cruel scene made Heishan's heart tremble, yet he did not feel it was wrong because if Xiao Yefeng weren't here, he might have been the one to die!
"Uncle Xiao!" Heishan called out, but before he could finish, Xiao Yefeng interrupted him: "Heishan, quickly take your wife and children away from here. The future of Earth depends on it!"
After pondering for a moment, Heishan replied, "Uncle Xiao, I understand everything you've been through these years. Just like you said, if we lose, hiding anywhere will be the same!"
Xiao Yefeng nodded and then said, "How about this? You take your family away from here. One of my grandfathers is nearby. Although I don't know if it will be useful, I believe it's the last safe haven."
Xiao Yefeng provided Heishan with the address of Xiao Sifei. In the vast grasslands where the Indigenous Tribe resided, their combat power was low but their numbers were vast—this was the best place for colonization and also the last spot untouched by war. Heishan should seek refuge there; after all, remnants from the Elemental Era remained in that area. If Earth fell, perhaps there would still be a glimmer of hope there!
After informing Jiang Xing about the situation, Xiao Yefeng returned alone to Beijing North, avoiding contact with anyone. He stealthily made his way to the Supreme Commander's home. By the time he arrived, night had already fallen. The moment Commander Zhang Ru entered his house, he noticed Xiao Yefeng. After a brief conversation, Xiao Yefeng quietly left, while Supreme Commander Zhang Ru clenched his fists, which were already marked with age spots.
"Bring in the Zodiac Team! I want those people!" Zhang Ru's voice trembled with intensity, and his personal bodyguard relayed the command.
With the order given, twelve figures emerged from various hiding places and rushed toward their target location. Zhang Ru, accompanied by his bodyguards, changed into ordinary clothes and discreetly left through a hidden passage.
In a valley near Beijing North, Zhang Ru and his bodyguard appeared beneath a large rock, where the twelve individuals had already gathered and were waiting.
"Commander!" the twelve greeted in unison. They were a diverse group of men and women of all ages and sizes, even including one person with disabilities who was using crutches.
"Enough small talk. Here are several names; infiltrate their circles and wait for my orders. You are permitted to use any means necessary, but you must be ready to eliminate anyone on this list at any time and in any place! Do you understand? This is non-negotiable! As for how you do it, that's up to you," Zhang Ru's voice was filled with weariness, disappointment, and sorrow.
"Understood!" the twelve responded in unison.
"Good! Pay attention to this! Once this appears, it will signal your action. But remember, this can show up in any scenario and in anyone's hands. You must ensure that once it appears, you eliminate it on the spot!" The sorrow in Zhang Ru's voice faded away, replaced by a decisive tone of authority. In that moment, the kind old man vanished, revealing a politician who had resolved all doubts.
Each took a copy of the information before disappearing into the woods. Zhang Ru also left the area. As he sat in the car on his way back through the tunnel, he thought to himself: I've done all I can; now it's up to you! We are both going to lose something! It's a pity I've seen so much of life’s complexities while you are still young!
Meanwhile, Xiao Yefeng had already brought his wife and children to safety. The Perfect World had begun to stir; China was no longer safe. The only place Xiao Yefeng could think of was at Xiao Four Non-Grandpa's location. However, if his family went there, they wouldn't be safe either. So he took them out of his home and brought along Liu Qing and her husband, delivering everyone to Grandma Yuqing's house—one of the Three Elders of Huaxia.
The Three Elders lived close together as old neighbors. Here, Xiao Yefeng felt somewhat at ease because no one knew that Grandma Yuqing among them was the first strong individual to cross international boundaries. In terms of combat power within China, Xiao Yefeng was undoubtedly formidable; however, when it came to defense, no one could compare to those who had already crossed into new realms.
Of course, Yuqing had not truly crossed into that level either; she was infinitely close to entering new territory. Yet Senior Yuqing chose to forgo further opportunities during these tumultuous times to protect China! This decision almost amounted to sacrificing her own future since her age made it unlikely for her to have another chance.
Having finished his household chores, Xiao Yefeng set off on the journey to find Mo Fei. He had already handed one copy of the letter left by Mo Fei to the Supreme Commander, while the other copy was for himself. He understood why Mo Fei had distanced himself over the years and why those from Perfect World were willing to risk exposing the Human United Federation; it was likely due to their influence, which also aimed to capture Mo Fei.
The letter stated that Mo Fei had received another message from himself three years ago. By chance, he discovered the mystery of his Spirit, which led him into a half-month-long coma. At that time, Xiao Yefeng and others had come to check on him. However, when he awoke after half a month, his cultivation had surged, and no one worried anymore. Yet during that time, he experienced an extraordinary process.
In the letter, he wrote that he saw another version of himself in a dream—Wu Kui! It was through their Spirits that they sensed each other. He felt Wu Kui's weakness. In his message, Mo Fei explained everything: Wu Kui was a member of the demon realm in the Low-Level Plane, where good and evil were not opposed; rather, it was interests that created conflict.
Wu Kui's Spirit had been shattered by the God of Sorcery and scattered across Earth. Due to the strength of Spirits from Low-Level Plane beings and the effects of the Low-Level Dimension, these fragments could transform into new life in Yin Si. Over the years, Wu Kui's Spirit transformed into countless new lives that entered Earth's Reincarnation cycle. According to Xiao Yefeng's observations, Wu Kui's incarnation Zitong collected some remnants of souls and ultimately reclaimed most of his Spirit fragments in the Demon Tower, finally awakening. However, due to dimensional laws, he had to leave Xiao Yefeng.
This was the reason for Wu Kui's mysterious disappearance. After returning to the Low-Level Plane, Wu Kui fought multiple battles against the God of Sorcery but realized that he lacked part of his power! He already knew where that part was; however, at that time, Wu Kui couldn't bring himself to forcibly reclaim it because it belonged to his best friend—Mo Fei!
In other words, Mo Fei's Spirit was a part of Wu Kui's Spirit. Upon reading this information, Xiao Yefeng understood why Mo Fei's attributes were so familiar; his cultivation techniques were essentially those of Wu Kui. The Tide of Water Separation was indeed Wu Kui's method. In their last battle, due to incomplete Spirits, Wu Kui was defeated and called out for Mo Fei. The content of their conversation was also conveyed to Xiao Yefeng in Mo Fei's letter.
Wu Kui informed Mo Fei about the War of Gods and Demons scheduled for a certain date in Earth's new calendar year—this year. Wu Kui hoped that Mo Fei could disperse his Spirit to help him, and Mo Fei agreed. However, dispersing one's Spirit meant self-sacrifice; this was also why Mo Fei had devoted himself entirely to caring for his family over these years.
As for when Wu Kui would need Mo Fei, Mo Fei did not know. However, Xiao Yefeng guessed it must be soon; otherwise, why would those from Perfect World capture Mo Fei? Clearly, they wanted to prevent him from taking such drastic measures or perhaps aimed to annihilate Mo Fei's Spirit so that Wu Kui could not regain his full power!
Mo Fei's situation was so dire that upon reading the letter, Xiao Yefeng trembled with emotion. At that moment, he even felt a bit relieved that Mo Fei had been captured because it meant those people were protecting him from death in order for the God of Sorcery to defeat Wu Kui. For Xiao Yefeng, this seemed like a good thing! However, he couldn't bear to imagine if the battles between the Low-Level Planes truly required sacrificing Mo Fei as a price. Xiao Yefeng resolved to stop this from happening but understood that if it weren't for Wu Kui holding back the God of Sorcery all these years and preventing them from interfering with Earth, Perfect World would have grown too powerful to stop.
