"Go! Qiangzi, you go take a look. You can go."
This was the real scene as the police investigated the site of a bizarre death of an honest gatekeeper.
The body had already turned to bones. As the police delved deeper into the investigation, they unexpectedly found that a handcart became the key to solving the case.
However, during the interrogation, something the suspect said made everyone want to slap him twice.
Time: June 16, 2012.
Location: Mianzhu City, Sichuan Province.
On this day, the police in Mianzhu City received a report that a body had been discovered in the bushes of a nursery in Revival Town.
Upon receiving the report, the police rushed to the scene. Officers found the body covered with dry branches, and technical personnel began to clear away the debris.
Upon examination, technicians discovered that it was a male body lying on its back, wearing only a pair of shorts on the lower half and no shoes on his feet, while his upper body was clad in a black short-sleeve shirt.
By June, Sichuan was already sweltering hot, which had led to significant decomposition of the body. Nevertheless, technicians could clearly see multiple cut marks on the victim's neck made by a sharp weapon, and the cause of death was determined to be hemorrhagic shock due to cuts to the neck.
The brutal method of murder shocked all the officers present. However, due to advanced decomposition, they could not identify the deceased through facial recognition. Just as they began their investigation into the victim's identity, the reporter sadly informed them that the deceased was likely his own brother.
The reporter identified himself as Yang Mingxue and stated that his brother, Yang Mingyuan, had been missing since the afternoon of June 12, 2012. After searching everywhere without success, their family had even posted missing person notices.
Yang Mingxue couldn't understand why her brother had gone missing. Her brother, Yang Mingyuan, was the gatekeeper of the Nursery, living there and only returning home during meal times.
Just when the family was about to lose hope in finding Yang Mingyuan, on the morning of June 16, 2012, around 9 a.m., Yang Mingxue returned to the Nursery where her brother worked to search for him again.
Suddenly, Yang Mingxue caught a whiff of a foul odor and discovered a foot protruding from beneath some dead branches in a thicket.
This discovery sent Yang Mingxue into a state of extreme panic and despair, as the location of the body was only a few meters away from the small cabin where her brother lived while guarding the Nursery.
After learning about these circumstances, the forensic team conducted a more detailed autopsy and DNA identification, confirming that the deceased was indeed Yang Mingyuan, who had been missing for four days. Subsequently, the police established a special task force to comprehensively investigate the case.
The police believed that finding the motive behind the suspect's actions was crucial and decided to start searching for clues at the crime scene. However, since the crime scene was located within a Nursery filled with bushes, fallen leaves, weeds, and dead branches, and given that two heavy rains had occurred before the incident, the situation at the scene was extremely complicated.
In response, the technical team decided to expand outward from the location where the body was found to search for valuable traces and evidence in this chaotic environment. However, after a long period of investigation, they did not discover any valuable evidence at the scene.
Subsequently, the police conducted interviews regarding Yang Mingyuan's interpersonal relationships. During these interviews, they learned that Yang Mingyuan had previously been a Deputy Mine Manager at a mine and that it was rumored his family was quite wealthy. The police began to analyze whether robbery could have been a motive for murder.
However, upon further investigation, they found that Yang Mingyuan's role as Deputy Mine Manager and his frequent economic dealings had occurred over ten years ago. In the past decade, he had not engaged in any economic transactions or held grudges against anyone.
At the same time, police discovered that Yang Mingyuan lived simply and was not as wealthy as rumored. Shortly after retiring from the mine over ten years ago, he had come to work as a gatekeeper at this Nursery.
Meanwhile, police also conducted a thorough examination of the small cabin where Yang Mingyuan lived while on duty. However, technical personnel found no unusual traces within the room.
After extensive investigation, police first ruled out robbery as a motive for murder and determined that this case did not fit into any romantic motives either. Based on their findings, they confirmed that the location where the body was discovered was indeed the Crime Scene.
The murderer had killed Yang Mingyuan inside the Nursery and dragged him into the thicket to cover him with dead branches before quickly fleeing the scene.
Additionally, since the Nursery's main gate was usually locked tight and only allowed entry to those purchasing saplings with permission, it raised questions about whether the murderer had been someone familiar with the Nursery who could come and go freely.
After the police investigation, they discovered that Yang Mingyuan had a somewhat impulsive personality. Could it be that he had offended someone in his previous job?
However, after extensive interviews, the police found that Yang Mingyuan had very simple interpersonal relationships and did not have any enemies. The three major motives for murder—revenge, love, and financial gain—were all ruled out by the police, leaving them at a loss for a motive in this case.
Additionally, the lack of surveillance cameras inside the Nursery and the absence of eyewitnesses left the investigation with no leads.
Subsequently, the police decided to start by examining the periphery of the Nursery, reviewing surveillance footage from around the area. Unfortunately, due to the remote location of the crime scene and inadequate surveillance facilities, they were unable to obtain any valuable clues from the footage.
In response, the police intensified their efforts in canvassing the area near the crime scene while also searching for any nearby surveillance facilities in hopes of quickly locating the perpetrator.
Soon, an employee from a Metal Processing Plant located just a wall away from the crime scene provided a surprising lead.
The employee reported that on the day of the incident, a handcart had gone missing from their facility. Although the factory was closed that day, workers had left with the handcart still inside in the morning, but it was gone when they returned to work the next day.
The reason for the police's shock was that there was also a handcart found at the crime scene, which had been reported missing on June 12th—the same day Yang Mingyuan disappeared. It was hard to believe this was merely a coincidence. Even more puzzling was that Yang Mingyuan's son had mentioned this handcart to the police.
"He said that at 3:31 PM on June 12th, he called his son directly and asked if he had pushed a handcart over. His son replied no."
So how did this handcart end up at the crime scene?
The factory employee informed the police that there was only a wire fence separating the two yards, which could easily be knocked down. If the handcart was pushed into the Nursery by a suspect, what could their motive be?
The police then conducted a thorough examination of the handcart and ultimately confirmed that all DNA samples on it belonged to the victim. However, this only indicated that the victim had come into contact with this handcart, leaving another dead end in their investigation.
Nevertheless, based on phone records between Yang Mingyuan and his son, the special investigation team estimated that Yang Mingyuan was murdered between 3 PM and 7 PM on June 12th. Meanwhile, another group of officers managed to find surveillance equipment at an Auto Repair Shop located just one hundred meters away from the crime scene after extensive canvassing.
Upon reviewing the footage, officers noticed an unusually blurry white dot appearing at 2:04 PM on that day near the entrance of the Metal Processing Plant—a detail so easily overlooked that it would have been hard to notice without careful scrutiny.
After zooming in on the image, the police discovered that the small white dot appeared to be a man dressed in white clothing.
At that time, the gates of Metal Factory were tightly shut, and all the workers were on holiday, leaving the factory completely empty. However, this man lingered at the factory entrance for an extended period, behaving suspiciously, and over the next several minutes, he repeatedly appeared around the factory.
The police promptly began tracking this individual's movements.
Simultaneously, they analyzed that this man was likely the suspect in the case and that he was riding a bicycle or an electric scooter.
Soon, the police identified that the man was riding a shared bicycle. On June 12th, shortly after 6 AM, he rode from Shifang City to Mianzhu City along East Second Ring Road, then continued north along East Second Ring Road towards the vicinity of the crime scene.
The time he arrived near the scene closely matched the estimated time of the incident.
The police continued their investigation and discovered that the shared bicycles used by the suspect were all unlocked. He had ridden one from Mianyang City to Mianzhu City on June 9th. After arriving in Mianzhu on June 12th, he abandoned the bicycle by the roadside in Hanwang Town at 5:27 PM and then vanished.
It wasn't until June 17th, 2012, that the police captured a clearer frontal photograph of the suspect. Through their inquiries, they learned that the suspect's name was Ouyang Xun, from Zhongjiang County in Sichuan Province, with no prior criminal record.
With specific information about the suspect in hand, the police expanded their investigation area. After several days of round-the-clock work, they quickly located Ouyang Xun and arrested him on June 19th at 11 AM with assistance from Mianyang police.
During his arrest, Ouyang Xun did not resist but sat with his legs crossed on a chair, appearing very indifferent when confronted by officers. He refused to explain why he had killed Yang Mingyuan but spoke at length about his upbringing.
Ouyang Xun claimed that he had been broke and wandering for years without returning home.
The police had previously learned that Ouyang Xun's family lived in a village in Zhongjiang County. His father was a village doctor who did not rely on farming for income; their economic situation made many villagers envious. Villagers from miles around respected Ouyang Xun's father and regarded Ouyang Xun with special attention.
Because of this, Ouyang Xun's father had high expectations for him and treated him harshly. In contrast, his mother spoiled him greatly, which contributed to Ouyang Xun's impulsive and extreme behavior. He sensed his father's disappointment in him, leading to a rebellious mindset.
After dropping out of school, Ouyang Xun became aimless and developed a reclusive and selfish personality prone to anger. However, he retained a strong sense of pride, which deepened the conflict between him and his father. Eventually, Ouyang Xun left home altogether and fell into despair.
On June 12, 2012, he aimlessly rode a shared bicycle from Mianyang City to the vicinity of the Second Ring Road in Mianzhu City.
Upon arriving near the crime scene, Ouyang Xun spotted a scrap collection station and noticed a handcart inside the Metal Factory. He thought about taking the handcart to the scrap collection station to make some money.
That day, since no one was working at the Metal Processing Plant, Ouyang Xun parked his bicycle by the roadside and then climbed over the gatehouse next to the Metal Factory to enter the premises. After surveying the area, he damaged the barbed wire fence between the Metal Factory and the Nursery, pushed the handcart to the Nursery, and then jumped into the Nursery himself.
"The door to the Nursery was relatively easy to open. He pushed the handcart to an open space near the entrance of the Nursery and prepared to leave to ride his bicycle."
However, when Ouyang Xun returned to the Nursery, he found that the handcart was missing. At that moment, Yang Mingyuan, the gatekeeper of the Nursery, was on the phone with his son, asking why he had left the handcart at the entrance. Just as Yang Mingyuan received his son's denial, Ouyang Xun was still wondering who had taken away the handcart.
Following the tracks of the handcart into the Nursery, he saw Yang Mingyuan and also noticed the handcart beside him. Ouyang Xun's appearance alerted Yang Mingyuan.
Yang Mingyuan then went back inside and grabbed a stick, angrily driving Ouyang Xun out of the Nursery. Little did Yang Mingyuan know that his attitude had already provoked this young man.
As Ouyang Xun exited the Nursery, he grew increasingly furious and rode his bicycle back into it before walking into Yang Mingyuan's resting quarters.
Seeing Ouyang Xun intrude into the Nursery again made Yang Mingyuan very angry, demanding that Ouyang Xun leave immediately.
At that moment, Ouyang Xun felt extremely agitated and a malicious thought crossed his mind. In a brutal turn of events, he ultimately killed Yang Mingyuan.
Thus, this case was successfully solved by the police.
