I was stunned when I heard the words "rescue" and "emergency." However, given the prevalence of scammers these days, I wasn't inclined to believe him right away.
In this city, aside from my good relationship with Zhang, I didn't have many friends left. It couldn't possibly be Zhang who had gotten into trouble!
So I asked, "Who is in trouble?"
The voice on the other end replied, "A person named Chamberlain." The doctor’s tone lacked much emotion. When I inquired about which hospital, I felt a chill run down my spine upon hearing the name of the hospital—it was the same place where I had been admitted twice before.
Wang Wei was still there...
The doctor urged me to come quickly. After hanging up, my dog Noodle barked a few times, snapping me out of my shock. I immediately called Zhang, but the call wouldn't go through.
I thought to myself, this can't be a coincidence! We were just at work over an hour ago! Now Zhang has had an accident?
Could it really be this coincidental? I still found it hard to believe because Wang Wei from that hospital felt like a nightmare to me.
After hesitating for a few seconds, I decided to call Jianjian.
This time, Jianjian answered, confirming that Zhang was indeed hospitalized.
I was momentarily dumbfounded and then took Noodle with me as I rushed out the door toward the hospital. I thought to myself that if Wang Wei tried to stop me, I'd just let my dog bite him.
As I arrived at the hospital and got out of the car, I was still worried. Just as I was about to enter, someone called out to me. Turning around, I saw a girl in a red dress emerging from the night. Her features were exquisite; she was definitely one of those beautiful women.
I was puzzled because I had never been good with women.
I turned and asked, "Are you calling me?"
"You can't go in," the girl said, surprising me with her bluntness.
Zhang was currently undergoing emergency treatment inside, and no matter what, I had to take a look. Besides, I didn't even know this girl.
"My friend is inside getting treated. I need to go in."
With that, I started walking toward the hospital, but to my surprise, the girl ran in front of me and blocked my path, gritting her teeth as she said, "You can't go in."
Suddenly, I felt that her voice sounded somewhat familiar, but I couldn't place it at the moment. Zhang's life was hanging in the balance.
I stared at the girl, and she stared back at me.
Then she said, "If you go in, you'll die!"
I looked at her in confusion. Although she had a delicate and beautiful face, her tone was incredibly firm.
"Why would I die?"
"Wang Wei is waiting for you inside."
As soon as she said that, my heart leaped into my throat. How did she know about Wang Wei? Could she be... My mind raced with anxiety as I asked, "Who are you?"
The girl replied, "I am Lin Ke'er. You can't go in, no matter what I say."
"But..."
"There’s no 'but.' You need to think it through. Once you go in, you might never come out."
I didn't know this girl at all, but even if what she said was true, so what? Zhang Fatty was inside, fighting for his life. As a good friend, I had to go in.
I told her I had made up my mind and walked toward the hospital without looking back. However, after a few steps, I suddenly realized who she was. She must be the woman who had been calling me all this time. But when I turned around, she had already vanished.
The noodles whined a few times; the situation was urgent. I headed to the front desk and quickly found out where Zhang Fatty was being treated.
When I reached the door of the emergency room, I saw Jianjian already there.
I called out to Jianjian, and when she responded, I could tell her complexion changed in an instant, becoming even paler and more haggard.
But at that moment, I didn’t pay much attention to it because Zhang Fatty was inside fighting for his life; it was normal for her to be worried.
I asked her what had happened to Fatty.
Jianjian told me that Zhang Fatty had suddenly suffered a myocardial infarction and nearly died.
I was curious; although Fatty didn’t like to exercise, he couldn’t possibly have a myocardial infarction! My mind raced as I stared blankly at the three bright red words on the emergency room door.
Jianjian seemed unusually tense. I had always thought she was just worried about Zhang Fatty.
I reassured her not to worry, saying that Fat Zhang would be fine.
However, Jianjian's expression turned unusually grim after my words. In the next moment, the noodles suddenly barked fiercely.
Jianjian let out a scream.
I hurriedly asked her what was wrong. She pointed behind me, and seeing Jianjian's terrified look, I had a sinking feeling that Wang Wei had appeared.
I couldn't help but feel tense, a wave of fear rising from the unknown behind me, sending chills down my spine.
Before I could turn around, I heard a voice from behind say, "You finally came; I've been waiting for you..." As the voice fell, I felt a tingling sensation from my scalp down to my toes.
Wang Wei was a ghost!
I turned to look but only saw a nurse approaching with some medication, warning us not to shout.
I was drenched in cold sweat.
Just then, Jianjian tugged at my shirt. I glanced toward the operating room and saw the nurse push the door open, followed closely by Wang Wei.
I was about to shout out but forced myself to hold it back. The sudden shift in my emotions made my voice come out as if it were being scraped from my throat.
"Wang Wei, what are you doing?"
Wang Wei gave me a cold smile and said, "Take me outside."
I cursed silently, "Damn it," as this bastard kept insisting I take him out. The front door was right there; he could just walk out himself.
"Where do you want to go?" I asked.
Wang Wei snorted, "If you try any tricks this time, I'll let that fat guy die."
I glared at Wang Wei and said, "Aren't you afraid of Zhang Dexin?"
"What’s Zhang Dexin to me? Go ahead and contact him now; see if he can come. Besides, with you hanging around Zhang Dexin, you'll end up dead sooner or later."
Wang Wei's expression turned sinister.
Since Wang Wei had said that, it was clear he couldn't reach Zhang Dexin.
"I'll give you ten seconds to think it over." After saying that, Wang Wei started the countdown. By the time he reached seven, I relented.
"Deal. I'll take you out."
Wang Wei stepped closer and said, "Taking me out is the best decision you'll ever make." After that, he insisted I take him out immediately.
I refused, saying, "Not now. We have to wait until he comes back to life." My breath quickened as Wang Wei moved even closer, almost face-to-face with me.
I could see the bloodshot veins and pent-up resentment in his eyes.
But I didn't back down. If I got him out now and he returned to kill the fat guy, what then? Besides, that woman had warned me that I'd die if I went in.
Yes, I can indeed feel the threat of death looming over me now.
At this moment, my little black dog, Noodle, barked a few times and ran off. I was somewhat speechless; just a moment ago, I had wanted it to bite Wang Wei.
But I knew that as long as I didn’t take him out of the hospital, he wouldn’t make a move against me.
I didn’t know what had trapped Wang Wei here, but I remembered him saying that only I could take him out.
I held my breath, trying to appear as calm as possible.
Finally, Wang Wei suddenly stepped back and said, “You’d better not play tricks; otherwise, you all will die in this hospital.”
Wang Wei looked mad and paranoid at that moment. Then he walked toward the operating room, and I nervously called out to him.
He turned to look at me and said, “I’m not going in there. Do you think those quack doctors can save him?” After saying that, he vanished without a trace.
I knew it was him behind Zhang Fatty’s predicament; he was the one who had set Zhang Fatty up.
Jianjian stood by, her face growing increasingly pale. Although Jianjian could see ghosts, she didn’t have the ability to deal with them, so it was normal for her to be scared upon seeing one.
I took a sharp breath and told Jianjian not to be afraid, but it seemed she didn’t hear me. Instead, she pointed at something behind me, her finger trembling…
