"I heard Wang Wei say, 'Your eyes can see ghosts.'"
I asked suspiciously, "Will my eyes be able to see ghosts like Jianjian's in the future?" The fact that I could see ghosts was already surprising enough.
But Wang Wei's next words left me even more astonished. He said, "Not only can your eyes see ghosts, but they can also see much more."
"What else?" I immediately inquired.
Wang Wei looked shaken, as if he didn't dare to say more.
"Are you going to tell me or not?" I pressed him.
Wang Wei seemed frightened and quickly knelt down. I asked him what he was afraid of. Suddenly, with a trembling voice, he said, "Your eyes are bleeding."
Upon hearing this, I hurriedly wiped my eyes, and indeed, blood was trickling from the corners like tears. I couldn't see my own reflection at that moment, but I knew it must look terrifying.
I asked Wang Wei if he had just been lying to me. He insisted he wasn't and didn't know why this was happening. I took out my phone and opened the camera app to use it as a mirror. My face looked unusually pale, and the few drops of blood at the corners of my eyes appeared strikingly eerie, like phantoms in the night. However, when I wiped away the blood, my eyes returned to their original state—black pupils surrounded by white sclera.
This was how a normal person's eyes should look. I didn't understand why blood had flowed from them earlier. When I asked Wang Wei again, he also said he didn't know. The chapter titled "Luminous Eyes" had been uploaded.
But now my eyes were normal again.
Wang Wei explained, "Saning, it might happen the first time; perhaps it won't happen again in the future."
I knew I had been trapped here for decades by that person, and perhaps these eyes were his as well. This thought filled me with an unusual fear regarding Wang Wei, but why did he give me his eyes?
Or perhaps it was that I had a pair of eyes just like his. Right, I still remembered there was a White Lantern. But the White Lantern was nowhere to be found.
To be honest, I was still a bit worried. I feared that these eyes would affect my life. What if one day at work, while I was going about my tasks, my eyes suddenly changed? What would happen then?
I couldn't even imagine the consequences... But no matter what, from this moment on, I had a secret—a secret about my eyes.
After a moment of silence, I didn't press Wang Wei any further. I simply said, "Wang Wei, once I take you out of here, you can tell me a part of the secret about these eyes."
Wang Wei hesitated for a moment. Finally, I added, "You don't have to tell me everything; just share more than you have so far."
Wang Wei glanced at me and nodded slightly.
After all this time, Wang Wei finally said one last thing: I must take him out. I didn’t refuse; after all, he had been trapped here for decades, so taking him out was nothing extraordinary.
We reached an agreement.
Then Wang Wei led me in a different direction. It was a strange path; if we took a wrong turn, we would surely end up in another corridor.
As I walked into the corridor, I heard someone calling my name.
I focused my gaze and saw Ke'er looking extremely anxious. Upon spotting me, Ke'er rushed over and hugged me tightly.
I dared not look at Zhang Fatty and Jianjian, fearing they would notice my unease.
"Ke'er, I'm fine," I said in a calm tone.
Ke'er asked, "Where did you run off to just now?"
I replied, "I got separated from Wang Wei. But I'm back now! It's nothing."
Ke'er knew this place was dangerous, and as an ordinary person, she was worried something might happen to me. Seeing me again finally eased her concerns.
After releasing her grip on me, her tone suddenly changed. "Wang Wei, did you lead my Husband astray? If anything happens to him, I won't let you off the hook." Ke'er's voice was stern, completely different from the delicate woman she had just been in front of me.
Wang Wei was too intimidated to speak; he certainly wouldn't dare reveal any secrets to me.
Ke'er insisted, "Hurry up and take us out of here."
Wang Wei glanced at me, and I subtly nodded.
Then Wang Wei began to lead us in search of an exit. Having been here for decades, he naturally knew where it was. He brought us to the entrance of the hospital but hesitated to step forward.
Wang Wei said, "He won't let me out. Saning, you take me out."
In truth, there was nothing in front of us, but given how frightened Wang Wei had been earlier, it was clear that some kind of formation had been set up here.
I let out a sound of acknowledgment.
Zhang, the chubby one, said I shouldn't take him out, but it was just a scare tactic aimed at Wang Wei.
I had promised Wang Wei, so I took him outside. As we were leaving, Wang Wei said, "Everyone follow Saning."
I was the first to step out, and then everyone pulled each other along as they exited.
But at that moment, Jianjian suddenly screamed. I immediately looked over and saw the blood-soaked Evil Spirit reappear.
However, Zhang was still asking Jianjian what was wrong because he couldn't see the bloodied Evil Spirit.
This was the first time I truly felt the peculiarity of those eyes, but I kept my composure and urged them to hurry outside.
I was the first to exit, followed by Wang Wei, with Ke'er being the last.
Once everyone was out, I noticed a tear in the void healing itself. Just as it did, a bloody claw suddenly reached out from within. But the claw quickly vanished.
At that moment, it was just past four in the early morning as we stood at the hospital entrance.
Ke'er called out to me, "Ningzi," saying that dawn was approaching and she had to leave first. She promised to come back for me later that night.
I knew Ke'er was a ghost. I nodded and reminded her to be careful.
As Ke'er was leaving, she suddenly leaned in and whispered into my ear with a hint of jealousy, "From now on, try to avoid dealing with that girl Jianjian."
I thought to myself that she misunderstood me. Just as I was about to explain, Ke'er graciously walked away and slowly vanished into thin air. I stood there, staring blankly at the void where Ke'er had disappeared.
Zhang, the chubby guy, called out to me, "What are you looking at? It's not like we're never going to see each other again." I snapped back to reality and noticed Wang Wei still standing beside me. I asked him, "Why haven't you left yet?"
Wang Wei, who had likely been trapped for decades, should have felt excited, but at that moment he seemed unusually calm. I could only hear him murmuring, "Everything has changed."
I replied, "Decades have passed; how could anything remain the same?" My inner monologue reflected my own thoughts—that my life would probably change too.
I had gained eyes that could see more than just ghosts.
I told Wang Wei, "You should go find your body first. Once you locate it, come find me."
Wang Wei turned to glance at me, his eyes filled with a complex mix of emotions. Suddenly he said, "Saning, thank you."
I thought to myself, Damn it, don't get sentimental now. The sun is about to rise; if you don't leave soon, you'll be lost forever.
Wang Wei stopped being sentimental and then left.
The nurse on duty at the hospital was still asleep and hadn't woken up yet. Zhang and the others exited the hospital with me. Since Zhang had nothing else to do, he went home with Jianjian.
I walked a few steps alone outside and spotted a vendor selling sunglasses. I decided to buy a pair for myself. My mind was consumed with thoughts about my new eyes.
I sighed, wondering what that person wanted to say to me back then. Shaking my head, I tidied up and headed to work.
Today, Fat Zhang didn’t come to the office.
I wore a pair of sunglasses to work, but eventually couldn’t stand the strange looks and teasing from my colleagues. I went to the restroom to check my reflection and found nothing wrong, so I took off the sunglasses.
After a long and exhausting day at work, it was already evening when I got off.
As I walked to catch the bus, I suddenly noticed several Wandering Souls floating in the air, like transparent entities.
Ke'er said these Wandering Souls wouldn’t harm anyone, so I walked straight past them.
After getting off the bus and just as I was about to unlock the door with my keys, a pleasant fragrance wafted through the air.
Then I saw Ke'er sneaking towards me with a mischievous smile on her face. She thought I couldn’t see her, but in reality, I noticed her all along.
I just chose not to say anything.
Ke'er smiled sweetly, then suddenly became a bit shy. She leaned in and kissed my cheek. After that, she placed her hands over her heart, looking adorably innocent.
I merely pretended to touch my cheek and murmured to myself, feeling a bit chilly.
