I watched in horror as Wang Wei's skin visibly rotted and darkened before my eyes. He noticed my stunned expression and, thinking I was frightened, said, "As long as you don't cry, you'll be fine."
Red pits began to appear on Wang Wei's face, and I called out his name.
He continued to stare at me.
"Touch your face," I urged him.
After he touched his face, he cursed under his breath and quickly covered his head with his clothing. But the rest of him was still decaying.
Seeing him like this, I said, "You need to tell me what I need to know, and do it quickly."
Wang Wei peeked through a gap in his clothing, revealing his eyes, and spoke in a mournful tone, "Saning, you have to help me get my body back! I'm begging you."
I replied, "Aren't you free now? Can't you find your own body?"
Wang Wei complained, "If I could find it myself, would I be here asking for your help? It seems my enemies have taken my body." As he spoke, I suddenly recalled how frightened he had been of Zhang Dexin that day in the hospital.
Unable to hold back, I asked, "Is your enemy Zhang Dexin?"
At the mention of Zhang Dexin, Wang Wei's expression turned angry. He finally said, "He's one of them; there are two others." Infatuation Chapter, Jie Yi Geng Xin.
"You really have a lot of enemies. Hurry up and tell me the secret."
Wang Wei suddenly let out a few cold laughs and said, "Saning, my enemies will soon become your enemies too."
"What do you mean?" I asked cautiously.
"Are you going to the East City Ruined Temple tonight?"
With Wang Wei's reminder, I recalled the promise I made to Zhang Dexin that day, so I nodded and confirmed that it was true.
At this point, Wang Wei's body was starting to emit a foul odor.
I couldn't help but cover my mouth and nose.
Wang Wei said ominously, "The East City Ruined Temple is a great place." After saying that, he let out a few sinister laughs.
I had already been annoyed by these people teasing me, and seeing Wang Wei doing it again made me snap. "Damn it, Wang Wei, just spit it out! Stop beating around the bush. What’s so special about the East City Ruined Temple? If it's nothing, then I won't go, and your secret won't be a secret anymore. Either tell me quickly or I'm leaving. Plus, your body stinks; hurry back and find your own body."
After venting all that, I was ready to walk away, but I underestimated Wang Wei's shamelessness. Just as I turned around, he clung to my legs and began to wail.
Although there was no one around at first, his cries soon attracted a few onlookers.
I knew Wang Wei looked ridiculous in this state and cursed under my breath for him to stop. He begged me not to leave, and in the end, I reluctantly agreed. Then I shooed away the curious onlookers.
Wang Wei sat up again, and the stench from his body had intensified. "Saning," he said, "you're different now. You must go to the East City Ruined Temple. Zhang Dexin won't be able to pull any tricks there. Also, he might know where my body is, so I'll go with you tonight."
After listening to Wang Wei's words, I pondered for a moment before asking, "What about my eyes?" My tone was no longer as intense as before.
"Your eyes are fine. Since he gave you those eyes, it means you're the right person."
"What does it mean to be the right person? Right for what?"
I suddenly became a bit intense.
Wang Wei looked at me deeply, then said with a bitter expression, "I really can't say. If I do, I might die at any moment, Saning."
I stared at Wang Wei, and after a long sigh, I realized that since it concerned someone else's life, I couldn't risk another person's life for a secret.
Feeling somewhat lost, I said to Wang Wei, "You should go. Come find me tonight, and remember to keep this under wraps. Don't let anyone find out."
Wang Wei agreed and took my number before leaving.
After he left, the air around me felt fresh again. I wondered what Zhang Dexin wanted me to do at the East City Ruined Temple. He had mentioned that my Yin Qi was too heavy and that there was a High Monk buried there.
After thinking for a while, I decided to let it go for now and wait until Wang Wei came back in the evening.
I sat there for a bit longer when suddenly, Zhang Fatty called me. As soon as the call connected, before I could say anything, Zhang Fatty said, "Saning, my Uncle has something to tell you."
Before I could react, Zhang Dexin took over the phone.
"Saning! This is your Uncle Zhang."
I greeted Uncle Zhang. He asked how my preparations were going, and I replied that they were nearly done. Then Zhang Dexin said to be ready by seven in the afternoon and told Zhang Fatty to come pick me up.
I acknowledged him, and then the phone was handed back to Zhang Fatty. He mentioned that he originally wanted to help me ask for leave from the boss but was surprised to find out I wasn't at the company.
I teased him about his lame excuse and joked that he wouldn't wish for me to get hit by a car again. We both laughed for a moment, but soon enough, Zhang Fatty's laughter turned into an awkward chuckle. It seemed like he was trying to step outside during our conversation.
I called out to him on the phone, but he didn't respond. After about a minute, Fatty finally spoke up.
"Fatty, what are you doing?" I asked.
Zhang Fatty suddenly lowered his voice and said to me, "Last night, Jianjian's mother appeared..."
I was taken aback for a moment, then quickly realized what he meant. I replied, "Fatty, how do you know Jianjian's mother appeared?"
Zhang Fatty explained, "Last night, Jianjian was so scared that she couldn't sleep all night. I stayed with her, and she kept mumbling about her mother. Don't you think that means her mother came?"
I wanted to say something, but...
Zhang Fatty seemed to know what I was about to say and interrupted me, saying, "I don't know why Jianjian is so afraid of her mother. When I asked her, she wouldn't say anything."
"How is she doing now?" I inquired.
Zhang Fatty paused for a moment before responding, "Jianjian wants to see you. She said you can see ghosts." Hearing this made me unable to hold back my disdain for Fatty. He had tricked Jianjian into coming to my hometown by saying I could see ghosts. It was meant as a joke, but now it had unfortunately turned into reality.
I didn't respond.
But Zhang Fatty couldn't help but continue, "I'll bring Jianjian to find you tonight. I can't stand seeing her like this."
Just as I was about to say something, Fatty hung up the phone. I was momentarily stunned, realizing that everything had piled up in just one night.
The East City Ruined Temple, Wang Wei's body, and Jianjian's mother.
Damn it, I've taken so many days off this month; my paycheck is probably going to be pitiful. Just thinking about it made me feel unlucky. In the afternoon, I decided to go back to the office and make up for some work.
After finishing work on time today and walking home, I suddenly saw a little girl crying by the roadside. She was soaked through. I looked around and noticed there was a small puddle nearby. There were no adults around her. At first, I thought about going over to help her, but then I figured it was better not to get involved in more trouble. Besides, maybe her mother was nearby; after all, there were still things I needed to take care of tonight.
Thinking about it, I boarded the bus. Now, every night, I can see light spots in the void. Each light spot is bright, like fireflies, and I know they are the souls of people who have died.
Wandering Souls cannot descend to the Underworld; they can only continue to exist in this way. They are invisible to the human eye, but I can see them. From that moment on, the world in my eyes would never be the same as that of ordinary people.
Around six-thirty, I bought some groceries and returned home. As soon as I entered, Ke'er was waiting at the door, and the blush from last night still seemed to linger on her face.
Ke'er smiled gently at me and called me "Husband." I responded and called her name in return. Just then, Zhang Fatty's voice came through.
"Saning, you two are making me sick."
"Damn it, Fatty, when did you arrive?"
"I said I would come over tonight, didn’t I? I didn't expect you to actually go to work."
"Fatty, you better not bully my Ningzi," Ke'er said with a stern face, causing Zhang Fatty's bravado to wilt immediately.
But just then, someone suddenly called out to me. "Saning!" Following the voice, I saw Jianjian, looking pitiful.
"Saning, my mom came back to find me. She said she wants to strangle me..." Jianjian's voice was eerie and seemed to tremble.
