As soon as I got off the car, I noticed a severed hand on the ground. The lights from the tall buildings nearby illuminated the area, making it not completely dark, but still dim—just that kind of shadowy light.
Seeing the severed hand left me stunned, especially since there were dried bloodstains around the severed wrist.
"Wang Wei" pointed directly at the building in front of us and said, "Saning, it's inside there."
I reminded them not to look down, but as soon as I said it, their gazes all dropped.
At that moment, a chilly breeze swept through, and everyone's expressions turned strange.
"It's just a dead person's hand," "Wang Wei" said dismissively.
I took a deep breath; no one paid attention to "Wang Wei."
"Wind Tree" called me brother, and I responded. Then I saw her open her arms, so I picked her up without hesitation.
The dog followed at my feet, barking.
Damn it, to see a dead person's hand right after getting off the car was unsettling. We continued walking forward.
"Wang Wei" said, "This building has been abandoned for at least ten years, but no one comes to such a haunted place anyway."
Vines climbed up the walls of the dilapidated building and spread out across the surface, wrapping the entire structure in a tangle of greenery.
It looked quite eerie, just like the haunted houses depicted on television.
"Ke'er" called me "Husband," and I replied. She then said, "Husband, carry this." After she spoke, I didn't know where she had gotten that wooden box from.
"Wind Tree" softly called out to her sister.
"Ke'er said, 'Sister, hug me.'
Ke'er took the Wind Tree, and I slung the box over my back. I asked Wang Wei, 'So where exactly is the Evil Being?'
'It's inside the building. There's a basement in there, and I found him in the basement last night.'
'Will he be in the basement tonight? Wang Wei, why does he want to occupy your body? What's so special about it?'
Wang Wei seemed caught off guard by my question, stammering and unable to explain clearly.
I thought to myself, is Wang Wei hiding something from me?
I pressed him, 'Speak clearly, or we’re going back right now.'
Wang Wei knew I was serious; when I said I would leave, I meant it. We had come this far, and turning back now would be a waste.
Wang Wei called out to me, 'Damn it, Saning, I'll tell you! Why are you so impatient?'
'Just say it.'
Ke'er looked at Wang Wei and said, 'I knew you were slippery. If you let my Husband suffer because of you, I'll have to beat you up.'
Wang Wei had a mournful expression as he looked at us.
'I'm scared of you guys. My body is a bit different from an ordinary person's; the difference is that it ages very slowly.'
'What do you mean?'
'It means that even at fifty years old, I look like I'm in my twenties.'"
"Why is this happening?"
Wang Wei said, "When I was younger, I obtained a treasure. I swallowed it, and eventually, it fused with my flesh. However, I won't achieve immortality; my bodily functions will still age normally, but my body itself won't grow old."
I was about to respond when Jianjian suddenly screamed.
I quickly reacted and asked Jianjian what was wrong. Jianjian pointed to the ground, where a corpse had appeared. Its features were twisted, and its face was blackened.
There seemed to be a blood hole in the center of its forehead, which looked terrifying in the dim light.
My breathing became rapid, but strangely, I didn't see a single Wandering Soul around; it was eerily silent.
I slowed my pace and couldn't help but remind everyone to be cautious.
We circled around the corpse and continued forward. Wang Wei said, "These people must have just died recently."
"How do you know?" Jianjian asked with a trembling voice.
"Just take a look." As soon as he finished speaking, Wang Wei suddenly collapsed to the ground. I was startled, but soon another corpse began to rise.
Damn! We were all frightened at that moment.
Ke'er was ready to take action, and I quickly stepped in front of Ke'er and Jianjian. However, I soon realized what was happening.
I couldn't help but curse, "Wang Wei, are you trying to get yourself killed?"
"Pervert, bad guy." Even Wind Tree couldn't help but curse Wang Wei a couple of times.
We were still shaken by Wang Wei's antics.
Ke'er stepped forward and gave Wang Wei a beating. In my eyes, Ke'er's soul was different from others; it felt unusually thick, as if many souls were overlapping together.
I wasn't sure if this was just my illusion.
After being beaten, Wang Wei became quite obedient.
A few minutes later, Wang Wei said to me, "Your wife is really something."
We entered the Ghost Tower, but Wang Wei refused to switch back to his own body, saying he wanted to scare that Evil Old Wang. He held the Bronze Mirror in his hand.
Wang Wei looked like a zombie.
As we stepped into the Ghost Tower, I turned on the flashlight on my phone. The interior was eerie and dark, likely because it had been abandoned for over ten years. It looked very old, with some walls covered in moss.
Wang Wei mentioned that someone had taken over his body, so that person must currently be in a soul state. As long as it was a soul, I wasn't afraid.
However, if I were to devour that soul later, Ke'er would definitely find out.
I hesitated about whether to tell Ke'er about my eyes.
For a moment, I lost my focus when Jianjian called out to me, "Saning Brother," and then said she was a bit scared. At that moment, Noodles barked a few times.
I turned to Jianjian and said, "The black dog wards off evil; you can hold onto it."
Jianjian nodded and then hugged Noodles tightly.
Wang Wei was direct, quickly leading us to the basement. This basement was relatively large; typically, when buildings are constructed, the basement is used as a parking lot, but some are turned into shopping areas.
However, it was clear that this basement was primarily a parking lot.
The space was vast and empty. After we descended, the light from our flashlights barely illuminated the area.
Once down, Wang Wei shouted, "Old Bastard, I've come for you!"
His shout was so abrupt that we all exchanged surprised glances at him. Wang Wei shot me a look and said, "Saning, aren't you all here?"
Since Wang Wei had already revealed our target, we no longer needed to be cautious.
That bronze mirror seemed strange; it must be important to that Evil Being. So I said to Wang Wei, "Threaten him with that mirror."
Upon hearing my words, Wang Wei quickly yelled, "Old Bastard, if you don't come out now, I'll smash your mirror!"
His voice echoed in the enclosed space.
I looked around and suddenly noticed a swirl of star-like points in the air.
Jianjian reacted faster than I did and shouted, "There's a ghost over there!"
Wang Wei and Ke'er also saw it; Wind Tree noticed it too. In fact, all five of us could see the ghost now.
Just as I was about to respond, I realized that the distorted light spots had vanished.
It felt like the presence of a Soul.
"Dead, completely dead," Wang Wei said. That was likely the result of Soul Shattered. While I might have thought little of it upon seeing it, for Wang Wei and Ke'er, it probably sent chills down their spines.
Because of Soul Shattered, it meant eternal disappearance.
Wang Wei said, "That bastard must be hiding in some corner."
Wang Wei's reminder made me even more cautious.
I hesitated and looked at Ke'er, wondering whether I should tell her that secret now.
At this moment, the atmosphere here was eerie. I took a deep breath as Wang Wei threatened the Evil Being again with the Bronze Mirror.
Not long after he spoke, someone answered. The voice was cold and eerie, saying, "There is one more Soul."
The tone of the voice sounded like it came from the depths of the underworld.
Suddenly, Wind Tree said, "I think I can sense my mom's damn presence." Wind Tree spoke seriously.
I glanced at Wind Tree.
Ke'er asked, "Is your mother here?"
I remembered Wind Tree had mentioned that her mother took her body away. Could it be... At this thought, I couldn't help but curse that Evil Being as a beast.
Suddenly, a few perverse laughs echoed around us, and I heard him say, "Is this what you're talking about?" After he spoke, a loud bang erupted behind us.
